Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

No, please don't say that. Going to have nightmares tonight... H1 2019 means Q3 2019 to AMD.

I hope so :)

I have seen a lot of people be very harsh on him online due to Vega, saying silly things like fire him etc. But I won't judge the man's work until Navi and even then if it cannot beat Volta, people need to understand he has a lot less R&D money to work with than Nvidia.

Not just that, but Vega and future RTG success is not going to be pinned solely on gaming. Gamer's/children need to get a grip and get over themselves. If they don't like it, don't buy it...quietly.

Because it's important to compare like for like, and because Vega and the GTX1080 don't either.

IF you're arguing that the AIO version of the Vega 64 is rubbish because it costs (or did before pricing went lol) the same as a hairdryer spec 1080ti then you're also arguing that the AIO GTX1080's are rubbish too. This is why apples/oranges comparisons don't work.

You are just trying to justify its pricing. No one in their right mind would get a VEGA AIO over something like this.

The Ti is probably quieter too.

No I'm not, if you had been reading you would have seen I have said multiple times that the current inflated prices are lolworthy.

The fact remains that claiming the V64 AIO is rubbish because it was the same price as a reference GTX1080ti is stupid. It's no different than claiming that a GTX1080 AIO is rubbish because it was the same price as a reference GTX1080ti or that a GTX1070 AIO is rubbish because it was more expensive than a reference GTX1080.

Guy is expressing surprise that cards are selling despite being less powerful than a 1080Ti.

Other guy posts evidence of situations where Vega 64 is in fact much more powerful than a 1080Ti and thus it wins at performance and price.

Thus presenting a decent reason for Vega 64's to be selling despite gamer mentality that it shouldn't.

You follow me? ;)

But we cannot judge sales on 24 hours to be honest. Vega has been in the making for ages and people with Freesync monitors who have been looking to upgrade for ages have been panting to buy it. The Nintendo Wii U comes to mind. Had great initial sales from core audiance and things looked great, then after it slowed down drastically and was a failure in the end. Not saying Vega will be. Right now miners seem to be buying everything up so who knows.

Even though I am overall disappointed with Vega, I am happy Vega is out and gives many people and option. Even happier it is selling well and wish it to continue so AMD have more money in their coffers for the future.

I do, and it's also good to see these selling full stop. Not that it's a long term indication of how they'll do, and of course if gamers aren't buying them then that would be detrimental as what incentive would devs have to optimise better for the architecture?

Yep.

True, does not stop us children from being disappointed though :p;)

I would buy it, I think the card looks great and I happen to have Freesync already. I know I said this a few times now, but 2 years warranty... Got to be having a laugh AMD. As if it was not enough I am out of my mind to consider the Liquid Edition at that price point for 4K which it cannot handle... :p

56 is going to come with a naff cooler. I can live with the trade off for now

I thought 56 is coming with custom coolers? Fair enough.

But its not though is it? Its the same price as an AIB 1080Ti. A card which is 30-40%+ quicker.

Even the blower RX is more expensive than a 1080 AIB.

Lulwat? The going advice on mining forums is to avoid vega like the plague lol.

Seriously, the V56 mines as well as an overclocked GTX1070 while using 40% more power, the V64 mines as well as a 1080ti while using a third more power.

It's not miners buying Vega, professional miners aren't going to buy it over Pascal because the hash per watt is so much lower, and bedroom hobby miners aren't spending that much on cards (especially when they can Google the aforementioned info).

Great to see they went to town on the limited edition 64 packaging lol.
I made a post about this in the owners thread, it really does seem like thye just hacked up the foam for another card to save time/meet demand. There wasn't even a manual/CD in the box (in fairness I don't think I have used either since 2003 anyway, but still).

That does not mean much when miners were also buying 480/580's second hand for a hell of a lot more than 1070's cost brand new though does it? What advice were people on those mining forums giving out back then? ;)

That's the inflated prices though, as said I think they're stupid, but the conversation was originally about comparing cards at RRP. Hence the issues with the apples/oranges comparisons people are trying to use to rubbish the Vega cards (which sadly due to Freesync and their awesome workstation performance are still selling well even at the lol prices).

Not to do that obviously, it was only the bandwagon jumpers and the aforementioned bedroom miners who were paying 1070 prices for eBay RX480s though.

My feeling is the same lot probably buying Vega also. lol.

Either way, you guys are talking like Vega has been on sale for months and people cannot get enough of them. When it has been only 24 hours. Gibbo even said, sales dropped a lot once price went up.

By the way, I am trying to have a balanced view of things here. My position is and has always been, is I want AMD to do well. But that does not mean I won't call things the way I see them or give them a free pass when they **** up or disappoint.

So if I release a product I price it according to the RRP my competitor set for their product 1.5 years ago?

No, I price according to the market today. That's the only relevant discussion.

Some of the damage control in this thread is reaching unprecedented levels.
