Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

So folk should watch/read a review based on the wrong price. Then apply their own criteria based on their own judgement as to how if affects the review. Ok.

Yeah they should if they want to see performance relative to other cards around it, then as people do anyway they will make their own decision themselves on whether it's worth it at the price it's currently going for compared to those other cards. You're acting as if people will just blindly follow the review price and buy according to that.

A lot of folk are not as tech savy as many members on these forums. These people rely on the judgement of those online or in print to give an unbiased opinion.

I don't think reviews need to be redone, it's just being a pedant expecting a complete new review when you can come to your own conclusions on whether it's worth it at the current price, maybe we'll see some edits from reviewers on the pricing front.

It's a terrible time in general for buying GPU's and the behaviour we're seeing on this launch isn't helping, second hand pricing is also awful atm.

The numbers do t change but the vega64 now needs to be compared and contrasted with it's price competitor, the 1080ti. The vega56 has to be compared with the 1080.

This changes things drastically

And just note to end, I think people are pretty crazy to buy gfx cards to gaming with price tags 500, 600 and crazy 1080ti prices. You with miners are those who are raising the price year after year giving the companies the option to cash in on consumers. If no one buys 700$ cards, no one will sell 700$ cards.

Edit.
There is some kind of statement made by AMD

Miners aren't buying these card I have seen YouTube videos where miners are saying these are nothing special reports of 33 to 35 mh

No it doesn't.

A lot of folk looking at buying a Vega 64 really aren't that ignorant to the current climate. They're still going to notice the price change if they go to purchase one and then figure it out themselves or go looking for answers.

Which makes the silence from AMD bewildering. Surely their customers deserve an honest answer?

Or do we all have to work it out ourselves?

I'm not arguing for how AMD have handled the situation, just that reviewers shouldn't have to change things until AMD make an announcement themselves. If they come out and let us know that pricing is unlikely to be around £450 again then yes reviews should be edited on the price/performance comparisons.

I didnt really mean miners are stealing Vegas and hicking the price, its expensive because its expensive to make. But I ment the overall price hicke, like 970 -> 1070. If people will pay the hike, prices will never drop. If they cant get RX/1060/1070 Vega wont be that bad on mining, undervolting and overcloking memory you can propably be close to 40 with heavier powerconsumption to somehting like 580. But especially Vega56 will get hard look from miners. Not to mention if client optimasation will bring performance upwards.

I dont think it takes tech savy person to see if price goes up or down. Review doesent change. If the price goes up, its not just that good anymore.

Yep, still selling at those prices, will likely be out of stock again soon, I think AMD realised they can sell these in numbers higher than originally thought and it's quite important considering the cost to produce.

a lot and lot and lot of very nice, very cheap, very big, very fast Freesync monitors out there! and im sure TVs are getting adaptive soon.
also a lot of 280/90/3** owners out there in the wild

That's actually on the "cheap" side, the gigabyte references are in stock for £600,

I was a 290X owner with freesync screen and I'd rather not buy anything than buy a 64 reference for 550 pound.

People complain about Nvidia then bend backwards to let AMD do the same to them.

Wish I had just bought one them Ref for £450 now haa
