Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

I think you just arguing for the sake of arguing, which is what defensive people usually do.

I dont even know what message you trying to put across.

AMD are stonewalling the media on requests for the RRP.
I said I believe the RRP to be 599usd which you seemed to agree with yet disagreed with me an hour earlier.
A limited offer for a few hundred cards isnt relevant, just a trick so they can claim they sold cards for that price. Certainly not a means to justify misleading reviews pitting vega cards against nvidia cards that are much cheaper.

Paul is taking a beating in his comments section and rightly so, is his skin thick enough to ignore it, as it seems the reviewers dont want to upset AMD too much.

You claim you trying to just look at facts, but I have analysed your last 20 or so posts on AMD rx vega and they all arguing with negative comments on the card with various people, that doesnt paint a neutral picture to me.

I can see the way its going and I dont like it from an integrity point of view.

The reviewers are saying they are not considering whats going on as a long term trend, and they wont until AMD confirm the higher RRP.
In turn AMD wont confirm the higher RRP, its likely been deemed too damaging for the brand vs simply not choosing to comment, this goes full circle back to the reviewers.
If I am right it will mean original reviews will stay online, consumers will be misled.

Radeon RX Vega 64 demand continues to exceed expectations. AMD is working closely with its partners to address this demand. Our initial launch quantities included standalone Radeon RX Vega 64 at SEP of $499, Radeon RX Vega 64 Black Packs at SEP of $599, and Radeon RX Vega 64 Aqua Packs at SEP of $699. We are working with our partners to restock all SKUs of Radeon RX Vega 64 including the standalone cards and Gamer Packs over the next few weeks, and you should expect quantities of Vega to start arriving in the coming days.

Oh look.

Off to work now.

But it's still GCN, NCU isn't a new architecture, they have rethought elements of the compute units and called them NCU instead of CU, but at it's core it's still the GCN architecture, the architecture as a whole works the same as it did before, same ACE, same scheduler, same CU/TMU structure etc... I got mistaken as well thinking that NCU was not GCN and that they had redone a new arch but that isn't the case. But yeah we will have to wait until they sort out their drivers and implement the improvements to be used when possible.

I understand what you're saying and you're right they are GCN at there core but the fact that they're starting off with seperate drivers and even after so long a wait they're still not ready suggests that there's some major differences to GCN as we've known it.

Why was I doing this.

Ah yes, people were claiming they had no information on official price or why the price was increased.

OCUK had plenty of correct information and yet still drama.

How much of the worldwide graphics card consumer market will have read gibbo's post?

If you think a few retailers been told behind closed doors whats happening makes it all ok, then I am lost for words. end of post. :)

Most people who do any kind of research rely on reviewers.

Gibbo of course has been pretty clever, he let us all know what was going on and at the same time massively raised the profile for his company with it been mentioned in american based press. :)

If it wasnt for gibbo's comment then most people would likely be assuming RRP is 499usd and its all retailer price gouging.

Looks like some serious backtracking there :D

I will admit I didnt see that coming :)

That was probably the best statement to make of course it "may" cost them money with the lower pricing.
I was expecting them to do the second best thing which was to refuse comment.

Note my last few posts is before I read this statement, so hotwired take that into account when you reply please.

Lot of returned cards off the back of that statement then?

I don't see how that works for them or the retailers now, they know they sell for higher pricing than their original expectations.

Here's my sweet little baby £450 well spenY
Sapphire tech RX Radeon 64
As rock x99
64gb ram
Crucial 1tb ssd
Intel 5820k
Dragonfly Black Dac , you can just about see it green lit up

I know the cable are a mess but I don't have a window so don't mind

Only problem I've encountered so far is I had some strange mouse lag I seem to have sorted this by changing the mouse polling rate in the mouse drivers and the back again Roccat kone XT mouse

good buy for £450, if only it stayed like that. :)

In very limited numbers like last time. So expect another 15 minute surge then sold out. They're only doing this to try and pretend that the $499 price is still valid.

Can't see many people forking out £550+ for a "free game" package few want. I would imagine the vast majority just want the card. Will be interesting to see if AMD follow through.

yeah we all know we not going to actually see cards at that price for very long, but it will be interesting to see if this at least reduces current pricing, the important thing is AMD have officially verified a figure, this then gives a proper baseline for reviews and people can see how much gouging is done by retailers. As a reduced RRP should mean a retailer is paying less for the cards and that would mean for the same profit margin they can charge less.

So in all logic the standalone 64 should be back on OCUK soon at 450£ ish (with the out of stock/pre order tag of course), because the MSRP of the standalone is 499$ and it's only a stock problem and not a bait & switch. If the standalone MSRP is correct, pre-orders should be possible, because I can preorder a MSRP "pack" atm, Am I right ?
