Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

I just read the statement that was quoted from AMD, and its a very cryptic statement, it isnt a clear "the future RRP is 499usd"

It simply says initial stock had cards for 499usd and the skus will be restocked in the upcoming weeks. That seems a deliberately vague statement addressing stock issues rather than price issues and to just confirm that at one point the cards were 499usd.

word for word in case people disagree with my interpretation.

Radeon RX Vega 64 demand continues to exceed expectations. AMD is working closely with its partners to address this demand. Our initial launch quantities included standalone Radeon RX Vega 64 at SEP of $499, Radeon RX Vega 64 Black Packs at SEP of $599, and Radeon RX Vega 64 Aqua Packs at SEP of $699. We are working with our partners to restock all SKUs of Radeon RX Vega 64 including the standalone cards and Gamer Packs over the next few weeks, and you should expect quantities of Vega to start arriving in the coming days.

This also assumes videocardz posted it word for word as they sourced it from another tech company.

I interpret it that those are the prices for each pack and when stock comes in there will be standalone packs in there. Remember as well AMD set the RRP but after that it's between the AIB's and then the stores such as OCUK that put out there pricing. So the RRP maybe $499 for the stand alone pack but when it comes to end game pricing that is up to OCUK. Just look at the mining situation. The RRP from AMD of the Rx580 has not changed at all but look at the prices in the store.

If there is a shortage of stock and the cards keep selling out then prices will rise. Once stock settles down and demand lessen's then prices should come down to where they should be.

Correct. They could have laid the matter to rest by emphasizing they would be re-stocking the standalone cards at $499, but they didn't as you rightly point out. They are continuing to mislead, or leave it open to continue misleading, and are not addressing Gibbo's statements on the launch price and the launch rebates.

Seems the tactic is to bore everyone away with inane statements (of course they'll be working hard to re-stock? They got to sell products don't they? lol).

Clever statement from AMD. It allays some of the anger while saying absolutely nothing of substance in regards to the real issue.

Well AMD have now backed themselves into a corner. The £450 priced cards have to make an appearance now and the "launch offer" should become a permanent one. Unless of course it's yet more smoke and mirrors.

All they need to do is provide a handful of £450 cards every few weeks, just like they did this week. It's a joke. £550 is the price, they just don't want to admit it.

They don't. They only need to stick to there original RRP. RRP is recommended retail price. It's not AMD that set the retail price which is the retailer's. As long as AMD themselves have not increased there prices to AIB's then it's surely down to AIB's and then retailers to give us decent pricing.

I would suggest nobody buys the game packs that don't want the games. Stock will not sell and prices will drop. Retailers want to shift stock not sit on it, which put pressure on AMD to drop the game packs that are not moving. It's the only leverage the consumer has.

Usually you would be right but with Vega I dont think that would happen. Its just too expensive for AMD and they are not going to sell it for loss. They would rather lower production volume and move it to somwhere else, like the RX5XX series

Sorry been a bit out of it celebrating with family at my daughters wedding and then that lead on to more of the same. So the initial RRP of $499 will be getting upped. After reading that AMD statement above it sounded like more stock will be coming at $499. Gibbo just put up the powercolour black pack cards today at £589 which is just about in line with the $599 RRP for the usual rip of Britain prices. Think i will wait until pricing settles a bit more and hold judgement until then.

Then they should be honest in the first place and not claim the 64 would be $499. It's incredibly naive to promote a price that is unsustainable and have no idea what to do when folk want to buy one at that price.

The best way out of such shambles is being open about it. It gets far more respect that corporate smoke screens.
