Got bored of waiting for my Austrian wines so we had this on Saturday:

Amazing aromas of dark fruit and liquorice. Smooth, velvety and totally amazing. 2011 incarnation @ 15% abv. £15.99 from local independent retailer

Had a bottle of Beronia Crianza Rioja 1980 on Saturday evening, just to see what a 36 year old bottle of wine tastes like. All the typical fruit and oak of a Rioja have blended into a subtle red fruity leatheriness. Smooth and quite a nice drink really.

I also bought myself a bottle of Rusden Barossa Christine's Grenache 2002 to take to the Isle of Wight next month and enjoy before the start of the festival. I had a bottle last week so I know it will be very nice.

Sounds like a nice Grenache that!

I had a bottle of 689 last night, it's a great number, followed by a Blu. They're just utterly fantastic bottles. We had friends pop over after dinner, who will drink wine but won't spend more than 5-6EUR for a bottle. It was probably a bit wasted on them, and I'm sure they would think it's stupid paying more for wine, but you get all sorts of folk.
They're only 15-20EUR bottles, so not like the 50-70 range in any way.

Edit: https://www.vivino.com/wineries/nativ/wines/aglianico-irpinia-blu-onice-9999 that's the Blu - cracking like the Nativ, but not quite as punch you in the face heavy, it's a little lighter but BAGS of complexity, red fruits and soft finish.

The 689 is: https://www.vivino.com/wineries/winery-689/wines/six-eight-nine-napa-valley-red-9999 similar to the blu in it's full bodied nature. I'd say softer than the Blu, but thicker.

Would rate / recommend both on that price point.

Does 689 represent the number of grape varieties in the bottle? With that list it looks like it was filled from the euro wine lake!

Had my 2010 bin 150 maranaga on Sat. Yum Yum :)

My Austrian wines arrived on Monday. Here is the Daddy Zweigelt:

Had to try one last night with homemade lasagne. Still utterly fantastic. It's a trocken wine so it carries some sweetness but the tannins balance it really nicely. It's not too sweet and rich like the Cabalié Vieilles Vignes. The Zweigelt is 14% abv and EUR 20.9

What lovely wines do we have lined up for the bank holiday? I've a Musar, sofa king bueno (chronic cellars) and a grower-producer champagne left over from my last visit to Epernay. Can't wait.

Any suggestions on how to bring back loads of wine from France - mainly Burgundy? It's a 3 day trip from Aberdeen each way so I'd be looking at 300 bottles or more to make the per-bottle travel costs reasonable. Unfortunately that's more than can fit in my car, and time in my car increases the risk of spoilage. Ideally I'd like to roam around an area buying, then drop the lot off at a shipping company for shipment to my home while I tour the next area. Many vinters don't do international delivery, don't know how to pack bottles for couriers, and courier companies are notorious for breakages.
