*BUMP*

Went to Asda last weekend and got this for £11:

It's a beautiful wine, slightly sweet and rich, with loads of dark fruits. Pretty good value.

Also got this for £8.98:

Which is the better of the two, with more blackcurrant than Ribena, honest. Drinks way too easily and you can slip through the bottle without really noticing. Fantastic value.

top tip get it while you can

ASDA seem to be clearing their Brunello di Montalcino "Orbitali" (the ones in my local were 2010 a very good year! but their seems to be some 2012 in with them as well)

at only 8 quid its a real bargain though...Brunello di Motalcino can be really quite expensive!

It was good value at £15, that is now sensational value. *Rushes to clear out Asda*

they were just putting it outlast night as I was wandering round...label caught my eye as how often do you see a brunello in the supermarket..so a quick scan on vivino it seemed daft not to try it!

like you say I am going back tonight, to get another couple

Almost nothing is made which would stand the test of 50 years (assuming correct storage etc). Port perhaps? Best bet is to just get an awesome bottle from a more recent vintage if you're set on wine.

It's a good port year (66) so I'd go with that. Some fading but Taylor or similar should be awesome and cheaper than a surviving wine. Make sure you ask for provenance and check the level though.

I missed that ^^ :P

I'd love a Latour! Would be lovely with a burger. I don't think I could stretch to a 500quid bottle mind haha

I agree with something like a port instead of a wine, as you just don't know what you're getting with a wine that's that old. Not unless you're buying properly and going to someone who has it kept at 16c in the right position for that amount of time, you run the risk of it being crap.

Currently at San Francisco airport waiting to board my A380 home to London. Spent a day on the Napa Valley Wine Train visiting 4 vineyards. Napa is a stunning place, and producing some very nice wines. Tasted many but resisted the temptation to buy, leaving with only 1 2013 Cab Sav Family Selection from the Charles Krug winery. Also tried plenty of Californian Pinot which was really very good.
