The Witcher 2 - Thread

Playing the first one will enhance your enjoyment, but it is not requirement. You should be able to follow the story without problems. I would say buy both now on GOG and play them. Both are fantastic.

I forgot this was out! *facepalm*

I only played the first few hours of the first game a few weeks ago and I really don't get on with older game engines, even though its pretty good.

Do I really need to have played the first game to enjoy this properly?

Those of you that were upset about DA2, has this made you happier? :p

If I don't have to play the first game I think I'll go and get it tomorrow.

Just read the plot for the first one on wiki. Its not that much of a big deal and transferring your character from TW1 only gives you some extra armour so its not needed.

I've played 2 hours of TW1 but stopped not sure why though. However I'm really enjoying TW2 I've played about 8 hours and loving everything except of the sometimes clunky fighting.

i renamed the troll file from .dlc to .dzip and was able to pick up the quest of the board today, 1 problem i have with the gfx is the shadows seems to be pretty crap lots of crosshatching kind of thingys.

In my opinion this kicks da2 in the nuts and takes a dump on it :D
finished act1 and onto act 2 ,Lol at the reference to the lord of the rings

This is just silly now. I thought i would start it tonight, even though i can not get my bonus items or dlc. No big deal i thought.
Now i have tried to start and it turns out that i can't import a savegame because i don't have one saved right at the end just before the final cutscene.
So now i have to play through the last hour of the first game again. The game that autosaves all the way through for some reason doesn't save for the last hour of the game.

Look, CD Projekt are great and everything and they made a great game with the first one and 2 looks brilliant, but seriously, they are a bunch of amateurs.
Anyone know when this patch is coming?, as i would actually like to play with the content i have payed for.

They probably did not even know that they would allow save import...
it was added as a feature after they got inspired by Mass effect..

Personally I had many savegames from the end of the game, even one after the final fight and waking up in real world.

Given that Dragon Age, ME and Witcher are my favourite modern RPG's I just knew this wouldn't let me down.

Bought it today just to get away from the tedium that is LA Noire and was pretty much blown away within minutes. W2 seems a vast improvement over the first graphically. Gameplay wise it feels just as good, and will hopefully be just as stupidly long too. W2 didn't detect my witcher saves though, so I started fresh.

I just had this problem. It will only detect a save from after you enter the illusion right at the end. At least the only saves that it detected for me were from there. The last autosave that the game does it just before you enter the illusion so you might have to load it up and play for around 10 minutes:)

Just started, played for about 10 minutes just to see what it looked like. It looks very good as we all know, got on ok with the first bit of combat, but not decided yet wether i will use a controller or kb/m. I used kb/m just now and thought it was fine, but the way people have been describing the combat, i thought controller might be better

Well finished TW2.
I thought it to be fairly short altogether a little disappointing in that respect.

In all others though, TW2 was fantastic throughout.
Will be giving a second play through after a break for all the other decisions I didn't choose.

One thing that irk'd me though, where the heck was Shani from the first game?

True enough.

Another thing that came to mind about TW2 is I found the story branches out a bit too much. There is a lot to take in from several different story's.
The second play though should hopefully avail some of these.

Fairly well, have every thing up to the highest possible apart from the shadows as they dont look that good ( on high ) no ubersampling and getting an almost constant 58 with texture memory at medium and lod distance at far.
