The Witcher 2 - Thread

Holding off playing too much until the patch is ready as well.

Most of us that pre-ordered payed over the odds compared to the price you can pick it up for now and for what? so we can sit around for a couple of weeks waiting for them to fix problems that should never have been in a product deemed release ready.

As the saying goes 'once bitten, twice shy', I'll certainly not be buying any sequel or other game from the same devs until some time after launch.

This.

People are always quick to blame buggy releases on console ports and the like but this shows that even dedicated PC games don't bother about quality management :(

Found this, a standalone patch is out http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=345045. Its not from the official site but looks legit to me, though i cant vouch for it.

If someone has the original retail exe and paul.dll could they upload it somewhere? I replaced them with the GOG versions since i heard they helped with performance, but im gunna need the originals again to update to 1.1 and i dont want to have to reinstall.

Fiar enough Wolvers, it's fine for you, but for some of us it is completely unplayable atm (research suggests that the retail version is worse than the others).
I certainly can't play it until the 2 patches come out(though i really want to as i have a couple of days off work):)

Edit- btw, i am sure it will be a great game when i can actually play it

I have every sympathy for you bud. Are you sure that it's all the game's fault? I mean the CTD's might be just your PC?

That one with NPC's disappearing is the only one I've had so far but nothing that stops it being a great gaming experience, there's no such thing as a completely bug free game IMO. Oh, I'm on the retail one as well.

Well, it only happens just after an autosave and i have seen of other people having the exact same problem so i don't think so.

I am going to try yet another re-install, as the key-binding problem i haven't seen with anyone else, so maybe taht will sort it.

I am going to give it another go tonight as i do really want to play it;)

Worst thing about this game is that it ends :(, looking forward to second play-through and making different choices though.
Only major bug i encountered was controls cutting out twice, pressing the block key(i think) fixed it on both occasions though.

anyone else find themselves using roll/dodge to get around faster, reminds me of a certain RPG on the n64 :D.

Anyone else getting horrible lighting effects since the 11.5b "hotfix"?

That big white light follows me around, no idea what it is =/

Facing the opposite way (white light behind me) it's perfectly normal.

It seems to be in a fixed position

Not great quality, taken with Steam

Well patch 1.1 is looking like a clear must download once it's out for the simple reason of the below:
1. The process of installing and activating the game is now easier and more stable. SECUROM copy protection has been removed entirely, making the game DRM free!
2. The “Troll Trouble” DLC package is included in the patch, bringing to an end any and all problems related to downloading this content.
3. Problems related to downloading other free DLC have also been resolved. The game launcher now correctly detects and updates specific modules.
4. Game efficiency has been improved. Game now runs 5-30% more efficiently and game loading has been accelerated. Efficiency increases will vary depending on system configuration and game version. Owners of boxed versions of The Witcher 2 are likely to notice the greatest improvements.
5. Bugs causing the game to crash, especially while saving game progress or loading saved games, have been corrected.
6. Movement key mapping has been expanded to include cursor (arrow) and number pad keys.
7. Options have been added for inverting the X and Y axes of the mouse.
8. NVidia 3D Vision Surround now works correctly with the game.
9. The hardware configuration auto-detect function has been corrected, resulting in improved game efficiency.
10. A bug preventing the completion of the “Blood Curse” quest has been corrected.
11. After beating the GOG.com penitent monk in the mini-game, the relevant link now displays correctly.
12. GOG.com credits have been corrected.

Took CDP a lot longer to remove Tages from the first game as I remember, so fair play to them. Hopefully this will negate the performance difference between the retail and GOG/Steam variants :)

Main reason why they are removing DRM so early is because of the lower performace. I bet they added DRM as one of the last things and were as surprised by lower performance as us : ).

AAAAAARGH!!!

I just played it for another 1/2 hour. I was running around doing the Nekker contract and that spider thing contract. I love it. Brilliant game.

I just want to play it properly with no bugs please:D

Something i have noticed as well is that my view distance might not be set right. i have it set to max, but things pop up that are 20 feet away, i turn it down to lowest and there is barely any differemce. Is this normal or do you think maybe the graphics settings are not working at all for me?

I am sure i will love this game, but it is very frustrating having to play it like this:(

It is such a shame, as i have some sort of virus, so will be off work for around a week probably so i could have really got into it as well

Yeah there is some visual pop-ups ingame but i am wondering if it's the depth of field options causing it but having it on ultra i've noticed it fairly often in areas though the gfx are great anyway so doesn't bother me much.

Nice they're removing the Securom DRM from the retail versions. I almost wish I'd bought a retail copy now to get the cool physical goodies. It'd have worked out cheaper too!

Meh all you need is the gog exe and paul.dll and no DRM basically the same as the gog version, this is most likely what they are patching out :p

I was playing with x360 wireless controller, very comfortable. Finished whole game on normal with it, no problems. Some fights are harder and require player to use the everything at disposal. Sings like quen or axii or aard are very useful, so are bombs, potions etc.

Also check out journal, all tutorial tips are saved there, as well as info about quests/places/characters and all that.
