The Witcher 2 - Thread

Completed the game last night.

Here be SPOILERS:

Good points:
- Visuals were fantastic. Hugely improved the atmosphere within the game and the general look of characters and places was much less bland than the first game.
- Normal combat was a lot better. Although I liked the stances in the first game I felt there was a lot more freedom in movement within the second. The signs were hugely improved and I much preferred the use of weapons (bombs, traps, etc).
- The voice acting was superb.
- Elements such as crafting, alchemy, etc were actually a necessity on normal difficulty. I ignored these during the first game and it was nice to use features I'd previously considered non-essential.

Bad points:
- Boss fights. Letho, Kayran and the Dragon were real low points for me. I actually quit half way through the Dragon fight the first time I attempted it because I was bored. Up until that point the fights had made sense; you could apply some form of tactics. The dragon seemed tacked on and the fight lacked any spark.
- QTE's did not need to be in this game. Idiotic inclusion that just did not work.
- Ending before it begins. The ending for me was a closure point of a chapter, but not the logical ending point for the game. After the huge prologue and two following chapters, Chapter 3 was very much "blink and you'll miss it". They are definitely holding out for expansion packs.
- The pants on head retarded tutorial system. I like the deep end but this was stupid. Spent most of the first fights using two signs and then trying to block my way out of trouble. I thought my keyboard was broken when I consistently had no response when pressing E.

i just picked up the premium edition for £25 at tesco, the problem is that i never finished the first game, i got to the posh part of the city and then had a computer problem and lost my save

am i going to need to know what happens in the 2nd half of the 1st game to get the story?

I think the consensus is play the orginal if you want to but it's not required as such and nothing a read of wikipedia won't fix but personally i am playing through TW1 before TW2 as i never did complete 1 and i'm a completist.

Installed the patch and the game finally starts with fullscreen enabled. I also get quite a bump in framerate: all at max, ubersampling off at 2560x1440 I get very smooth gameplay.

Guessing you sided with Roche?

Kind of yes.

I'll be doing another play through at some point to see the alternatives however this is how I went through the game:

SPOILERS AGAIN.

End of Chapter 1: Give Iorveth his sword and storm Loredos mansion. Felt the latter was of more importance then storming the barge.

End of Chapter 2: Let Henselt live, tell Roche to walk away. Also saved Iorveth.

End of Chapter 3: Saved Triss, saved Sile, spared Letho.

Kronin, are you running it as admin, i think i had the same problem first time i tried it, but 2nd as admin it worked.

Patch has pretty much fixed everything for me, got all my dlc, it is now saving my settings, and fps have improved (though i never really had a problem anyway). No CTD's either. Very happy.:)

Now bring on next weeks patch, which should be interesting

Actually, i could still do with ATI releasing a driver update probably, as the shadows don't look great still.

Siding with Iorveth at the end of Act 1 gives you a totally different Act 2, and actually gives that fight some significance, though I can see what you mean.

After finishing the second playthough it makes you look at it in a different light imo.

Hm manullay downlaoded th einternational patch 1.1 but im getting 'Installed game version is invaild or incomplete'

Im having the same issue, pretty sure its because i replaced the original exe and paul.dll with the GOG versions. Did you do the same? If anyone has the files (from before 1.1) that could upload them it would save me a reinstall, thanks.
