If you didn't already know, the only place you can get this DRM free is from GoG, and you get more extras then anywhere else, I think.

I don't think that is quite true. The version from amazon pretty much comes with everything gog is offering. What I find better about the amazon version is the fact all those extras will be physical, like the map etc. I have always had a soft spot for maps ever since the first GTA. Having a copy in pdf format just isn't the same.

I am not to worried about the DRM as no doubt it will be patched out at a later date like the first Witcher.

Just about to post this as I thought it hadn't been announced until the newsletter got sent out tonight!

Getting more info on the collectors edition too, the playing cards design has been unveiled (not a massive deal breaker but still good).

Looking at this logically(my logic in anyway)...

Oblivion (Not mods)

Min:

CPU: P4 2ghz
RAM: 512MB
GPU RAM: 128MB
HDD: 4.2GB

Recommended:

3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Considering Oblivion still looks pretty decent on max settings, and is a pretty huge game, these specs for the Witcher 2 are pretty exciting.

The increase in disk space from 4.2GB to 16GB surprised me a little, I think it means the world might be larger and a large chunk of the rest of the space might mean more dialog, music and storage of the better textures etc.

Many MMO's take up around the same HDD, and I think GTA IV does as well(which I cant understand exactly, as it isn't much different from the one disk 360 version, you can up the resolution and so forth, but then again I would need to complete it on the PC to give a truly fair opinion)

The lead software guy did say it would take 40+ hours to complete(so probably about 60+ hours for me).

I think the screenshots don't lie, this is actually gonna test graphics cards!

I'm no graphics nut, but it's been a while since something has actually truly blew me away on the PC, I think May the 17th is going to be 'blown away' day :)

I think I might get another 5850, while they're cheap in prep for this actually.

EDIT: Just noticed that the 16GB is spilt in two for the min spec, so core game is 8GB. That might indicate that the recommended spec includes the bonus material as they recommend it. Therefore we may be looking at 8GB instead of 16GB hmmm I won't get that 5850 just yet.

I thinks its now time to invest in a Quad Core - or maybe wait until AMD's new new CPUs becomes available in June lol...

I'm 100% going to buy this...the trick becomes which version...

Amazon Premium Edition (marginally cheaper):
GAME DVD: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings game DVD.
MAKING-OF DVD: All the cinematic materials related to game - trailers, dev diaries, gameplay footage, interviews and making-of exclusive video.
ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK CD: Audio-CD with in-game music.
WORLD MAP: A map of the game's world.
GAME GUIDE: The Witcher 2 strategy guide for both novice and experienced role-playing fans.
GAME MANUAL: A rulebook and interface explanation to help you get started.
PAMPHLET AND COIN: A physical representation of one of the in-game items.
PAPERCRAFTS: Two papercraft dolls - Geralt and one random character for collectors.
DLC: Extra in-game feature for download exclusive to Amazon
***Physical Media***

GOG
Free Classic Game (I have Divine Divinity, so Beyond Divinity would be a nice extra),
Exclusive artbook (PDF)
Game Guide (PDF)
Game Manual (PDF)
Soundtrack (MP3...no FLAC unfortunately)
World Map PDF
Bonus Videos
Papercraft PDF

I've got the original Enhanced Edition collectors pack of the first game, rather than the slimmed down premium edition which AFAIK is a more PDF etc based affair, and just having the music in CD format, rather than compressed MP3s, plus having physical books etc rather than PDF is making me tempted to go the Amazon route, even if I would like to pay the money more directly to CDP via GoG.
If I could have bought GoG's package and they'd sent me the physical extras I'd have gone for it 100%, even if I still downloaded the game.

GoG for me.

Never read manuls, though some of the physical extras do tempt me, from the Collectors Edition [link].

I like the fact that the GoG version is DRM free, and that it will look pretty cool in my GoG collection of games.

I'm gonna start The Witcher this week in preparation for this. Screenshots look very good, plus a few previews i've read.
Can't really get into The Witcher, after playing for about an hour. Taking a while to get used to the combat tbh. How long is it roughly?

The first act of the witcher is quite slow, try to stick with it until you get into the city. I used the over-the-shoulder view exclusively, nice and immersive and fine for combat.

Combat is never going to be ultra tactical, but it does get better once you start to move up the skill trees and build up some magic. Don't play it on hard for the first time, as you don't get visual cues in combat as to when to do follow up moves for combos.

I started playing it a few weeks ago, knocking onto 20 hours now and on Chapter 3 (not sure how many chapters are in it, 6 or something? could be wrong) but i found after the you get past the first chapter then it opens up and it becomes much more enjoyable

I did find the combat a little strange but you get used to it after a while. I do think it is a good game apart from no proper healing, it seems to takes ages if you dont have a potion.

The Witchers combat is by no means fantastic of revolutionary - but it's satisfying, and that coupled with the great RPG elements and storyline make it a fantastic game.

Where can I order that from? I have the premium edition pre ordered from Game atm for £25, I didnt see this CE with all the extra stuff before!

Oh never mind, I just saw the links on that site :)

No prices or pre order available yet :(

I'm going to cancel from jersey shore because my last 3 pre-orders have not arrived on time (still waiting fro Crysis 2!!) and while the magical suit looks cool i can't be bothered with them any more.

So ordering on GoG what's the best game to get as a freebie?

Beyond Divinity or Divine Divinity or Gothic 2 Gold Edition or Realms of Arkania 1+2 or Realms of Arkania 3

no store credit for uk customers just a reduced price.

Condering the GoG version is DRM free, you also get a DRM game free of charge as well as actually cool extras, like wallpapers etc.

It's a no brainer as to why to buy it from in my opinion, if you don't want the collectors edition.

GoG for the win!

I've got so much 'collectable' tat in my house that I'm reluctant to buy anything which includes more collectable stuff - I just don't have room to display it.

Most collectable stuff that ships with games you look at once, then file away in the box never to look at again. If it's a decent sized art book, or a sountrack CD then that's worthwhile, but often the soundtrack is only part of what's produced and they release the full thing on iTunes after release, so you end up with only half a soundtrack.

I've gone for the GOG version, partly because of that, but mainly because I want to support DRM free AAA PC exclusive games.
