The Witcher 2 - Thread

Does anyone else feel that certain character choices can make the game much harder? For example I've chosen swordsmanship (currently I'm only level 10) and I'm having trouble fighting Letho, but all the guides I had a quick read of online say to use upgraded quen, throwing daggers or upgraded dodge, none of which I have though. So is it possible to miss a few key skills and suddenly have a lot of difficulty with bosses? or does it get better later on?

Erm....if anything swordsman line should make it easier on you? All I did was roll about when he was shielded, then knocked him off balance with Aard, few slaps of the sword then roll away. Rinse and repeat. And I'm playing with a mage build.

Just had some frustrating moements. I finally got on to chapter 2, and I'll try not to give anything important away, and I was following an owl and had a few deaths, I just learned the swordsmanship adrenerlin ability, and half the time I used it after the short cutscene I had 0 health and I just fell down dead. And then once all that was over, I started exploring the next town, wondering around, collecting stuff, then crash to desktop :(.

Also what I'm not sure about is that I found a merchant selling dragon skin armour (very expensive though, I would need to farm a little more cash) or a recipe for drough armor I think it was, but again, expensive and I lack the parts. So I'm unsure what would be best, trying to go for the dragon armor now and not being able to afford the recipe once I get the parts, or just save my money and have to make do with my current armor. So many options and it often seems like money is holding me back in the game.

Great game so far though, even on my old C2D 2.0 GHz, 8800gt and 2GB of ram this game runs great (some settings are low but not all of them). Its better than some games which start to run poorly and drop in FPS, but this at my current settings runs perfectly fine, the only issues I've hadd is in flotsam where once in a while when I enter through the gates the internals havn't fully loaded, but that only takes a couple seconds to load.

I didn't need either armours.

I used a much worse armour than both armour, (about 15 armour probably;10 or so less than draug armour, more than 10 w/enhancements). I completed the whole thing fine on hard mode. And yeah, that battlefield bit, don't use any instant takedown type moves; I don't know why, but it kill you.

In my next playthrough, I'm going to go pure alchemy. It looks actually quite powerfull. ^^ (+ maxed out quen too, cant live without quen :P)

Iv just finished the witcher! took me 41 hours to finish and have to say it is one of the best games i have ever played, even though it had some annoying mechanics/bugs. I'm going to be starting the witcher 2 soon, hope it's just as good as the 1st game, cant wait to find out what happens next in the story!

Just wondering do you gain much by carrying over your save to the witcher 2?

Just finished it, was a bit short but at least there wan't much filler.

Nothing majorly bad about it but a lot of niggles, for example:

Why can't you just retry a dice game? Going in and out of the game gets very annoying

Why can't you remove mutagens and weapon/armour augments? Especially in chapter 3 I kept finding slightly better equipment but no way to move my augments over, that sort of design just encourages you to not use the augments, poor design.

What on earth made them think that the method for looting bodies was good? Number of times I'm stumbling around trying to find the right position where it will give me the option ot pick it up.

I'll definitely play it again for the different choices :)

Well the final Dragon fight is now the top of my list of worst designed boss fights ever made, not only is it easy as hell regardless of the fact as far as I can tell it's impossible to avoid getting hit if you ever want to actually attack it's boring as sin, it goes something like this:

"Use Quen > get hit by unavoidable bite or claw swipe > Hit dragon twice > Use Quen > Run around tiny arena to avoid fire or tail swipes > repeat".

Very dull.

Also the final "chat" you have with Letho seems like an utterly contrived way to force the remaining story down your throat without actually telling it in any meaningful way, then again at least you can skip it if you want.

Overall I would give it 8/10, the story really is very good as are the characters (Really do like Iorveth and Roche), also some of the quests are very cool, however the game has a rather large number of mechanical and general flaws that break immersion or make things needless difficult or complicated that it loses a few points.

Oh also got quite annoyed by the fact dice poker is basically just a chore for xp from the poker face quests rather than a minigame to waste time on, I am almost completely certain it's rigged in the AI favor, far too many cases of myself getting something like a full house and then the AI re-rolling 3-4 dice and getting 4/5 of a kind or some other absurd hand out of thin air.

Also just finished it. Very good game but i can't help but feel a little disappointed.

Starting chapter 3 thinking things are just getting interesting, then suddenly the word Epilogue appears on the screen.:(

IMO it needed just one more city to explore. Also, I played Roaches path and the setting for chapter 2 was a little bit undewhelming tbh.

I would give it 8/10 as it is a very good game, just a little short, especially chapter 3 which i did in around 2 hours.

Plus points-
-Looks great
-Very interesting story
-I actually liked the combat in the end, though will probably be even better after the next patch
-Great voice acting and direction
-Good integration and variation of side quests

Bad points-
-Armour makes no sense(10 swings of your sword to kill an elf in a t-shirt, whilst you take less hits to die wearing proper armour)
-Again, too short, the game ends just when it should be starting. One more city would have made it much better. Maybe another chapter in between 2 and 3
-A minor annoyance, Geralt forgetting how to attack more than one enemy:confused:

I don't care about all of the bugs as they have mostly been sorted now.

I know this is The Witcher 2 thread but was wondering if I could ask for some help on The Witcher.

Well I am on Chapter 2 the quest A Mysterious Tower, I am trying to get the stone where you have to get it from the Golem but when I activate the 3 pillars it kills me?

you have to get the eldar druid to start a thunder storm then put the steel rod you had to get on the golem it will come alive after it gets struck by lighting
Take some pots and try and work out how to kill I wont give it away =]

I managed it somehow on hard without 200% dodge.

I HATE THE MINIMAP :mad::mad:

It'll tell you that your quest objective is there, you go there and nothing but no wait it's the inn some distance away and then right underneath!. Also the arrow will just point the way but you end up getting stuck at doors and walls and the only way around is a maze to get to it
