The Witcher 2 - Thread

Iv only just reached flotsam lvl 1.

Game is tough even on normal.

I find that the defense (reflect damage) sign to be the most helpfull so far.

Also for all ATI user grab the 11.8 drivers, they seem very good with the Witcher 2.

It gets much easier from the next chapter. The reflect damage sign basically makes it so that you never get killed again, even by a boss. I died a number of times in the first chapter, but only once in all the remaining chapters!

I only started playing this last night, only got to Flotsam so far. The game is amazing, definitely the best game i've played so far this year!

Anybody have any problems with this game on steam ?
it downloaded about 17gb for the game and 5gb for the bonus content (i thought it was extra missions, better textures, bonus items at first) when i tried to launch it i got errors. checked integrity of files and got 1 file with errors...im guessing it was about 1gb in size with the amount of time it took to dl it.
now i tried again to launch it and it says 51 files failed to verify ???????? wtf its downloading 9GB
I had the same problem. If you go to the steam forums there is a thread about it. It'll tell you in there how to solve it

Just started playing and reached Flotsam last night. So far it’s a really good and oh boy it’s a fine looking game!

Don’t know about anybody else though but sometimes when making choosing an option in the dialogue section, you don’t get your full messages so you end up saying something totally different from what you wanted to. For instance when you come up against the guy in the castle, you can either talk him into surrendering or fight him. From the options I saw I picked the ones that suggested talking him into surrendering, but I ended up killing him as the text I picked that should’ve talked him down ended up saying I’d spare his men’s life if he fought me.

Is this just me or did anyone else find Geralt saying something completely different than what they chose?

quick question re purchasing Witcher 2.

checking out the prices I see I can get the Premium edition for less than £18 delivered. Will these boxed versions activate on Steam or not? I see no mention of Steam in the product description

Yes, at times the dialogue seems to take the 'Mass Effect' route, and your choices more convey the intent rather than what's actually said.

Some of the ensuing dialogue can be pretty funny because you've not expected it :D

Actually some of the humour/easter eggs in this game are downright funny too; last one I heard was a soldier singing about whores to the tune of the Sesame Street theme music :
Definately seen some Monty Python and a few others too; and heard someone whistling the Imperial March/Darth Vader's theme tune whilst playing the first through before this :D

After my last post I decided to start again as I didn't like certain choices I'd made because of the convo choices. I sided the scoa'tael like I did in the 1st game but in the 2nd game it is a harder choice as both sides are guilty of some pretty nasty stuff. I saved the game and made a note of the save so I can replay on the other side after I finish it for the 1st time.

Act 1 is drawing to a close for me and I think this might be the best game I've ever played, it's certainly as good as Mass Effect 1 & 2. The graphics, storyline and quests are fantastic

Agreed about the easter eggs some are brilliant. Having Trolls living under bridges and collecting tolls like the fairy tales but using tolls to buy materials for maintaining the bridge, for me was a stroke of genious.:)

Any news on some dlc for this?

I kind of remember hearing about a load of free dlc before it came out. I could be persuaded to play it again if they bought out something decent soon:)

I found an annoying continuity error >:(

*SPOILERS*
I chose to join Iorveth and as we were on the way to leave Flotsam, you get to play as Iorveth in a fight with Roche. I beat him in only 3 hits (on easy) and then it had a cut scene where Iorveth spared Roche's life and took his emblem, saying it was the last one he needed after defeating the other Human Captains like Roche. Then later when I spoke to Iorveth on the outskirts of Vergen, he talked about how he would soon finally have his chance to kill Roche and he wanted to get his revenge...and Geralt specifically comments on how Iorveth doesn't have a Temerian emblem and he just needs to get Roche's.

What button to throw daggers?

R

Can't check now, could someone confirm?

Iirc, no.

It adds a new 'Dark' mode that has new items. New difficulty that is as hard as the toughest difficulty, but you can continue playing when you die. It adds an Arena mode for training and has high scores etc. It adds a more in depth and helpful tutorial. That's all I can remember.

Completed the game this past weekend - pretty awesome, i did Ivoeths path (unknowingly) and really enjoyed the vibe of the game.

It is indeed much shorter than the first one but i think the quality is a little higher. Problem i had with act 2 is that by the end of it you were literally running from place A to place B then to C then B then A again , Chapter 3 was pretty short..

with regards to the dragon - is that a trick question? As either option it dies surely and I thought id be kind (imo) and kill it.... hardest decision in the game for me.

will play the game again when 2.0 comes out and do the other path and see what I think.

Oh and the Quen sign maxed out is so OP lol, really does make combat easy but i think the game would be so hard without it :(

id give it 8.5/10 as the game quality was great throughout a really should be applauded.
