The Witcher 2 - Thread

they are aiming for Q1 2011, so it is a year away at least. But it is good that they are taking the time, hopefully it will be perfectly polished on release.

Is there an option to use a game pad in 'The Witcher' ?

I remember using keyboard and mouse in the demo, since I have the advanced / updated version in the post I was hoping for the option of the controller.

Im tempted to play the first one, seems to have a great reviews. Does it run ok now on ati 5xxx cards?

I last played it just after I got my 5770 not long after they were released, and there were a lot of graphical glitches. They might have been sorted now with a driver update but I never went back to find out because I got playing other things.

I got to a major decision point about a battle just after sorting all the wedding storyline out. (Dont think I gave any spoilers away there!) I should probably go back and finish it at some point as it cant be far from the end, but there's just so many good games (and cheap offers on steam!) and not enough time to play them all!

PK!

Anyone know how much the first is going for on Steam at the moment? NHS filters won't let me near it, and I've been looking for a way to fill the next 10 or so days I've got off work. I was thinking of running through Fable II again, but getting round to completing The Witcher sounds like a better idea, if I could only remember where my disks were...

Definitely, I'll pick that up tonight and download it through tomorrow, ready to start on Friday. I'll assume that's the enhanced edition, whatever that does.

Yep, though every edition is now the enhanced edition as the guys behind The Witcher are ultra cool and decided to make it a free patch to those who originally bought the game :D

They'll also let you download the soundtrack and an 'inspired by' album from the website if you register, both are well worth it.

I really liked the first Witcher game, it took a bit getting use to with the combat system and all but I can honestly say I've never played a game with such a mature and well written storyline.

It looks like the graphics engine has had a overhaul, I wonder if they CD Project will be using any DX11 technologies?

Glad I stuck with it through the first part... until you leave The castle I found it really tedious as the combat is clunky until you get the hang of it and making the potion is a yawn-tastic fetch-quest.

But once you get out side and start saving dwarfs from being raped and busty barmaids from yokel racists (or maybe that was the other way round???) it really changes pace.

I really like the skill tree as it's not all about melee combat and magic; it covers monster lore, herbalism, etc, etc.

Plus the "gotta-nail-em-all" pokemon element that the "cards" bring to the sex makes it an actual 'game' element rather than a tacked on for shock value thing (maybe I mean aswell as a tacked on for shock value thing ;) ).

I'm really enjoying it; glad this thread inspired me to buy it.

I've just this minute finished The Witcher, having forked out the magnificent sum of £8 for it a few weeks ago. And I have to say that although there is much about this game which is clunky and annoying, it's also one of the best games I've played for a long time*. The plot had plenty of weaknesses, but that's fantasy for you. :-)

The final cut scene blew me away; I just wasn't ready for it. The render time on that must have been huge! And it immediately persuaded me to go hunting for Witcher2 info. Now I'm quite excited by the prospect of a sequel... it looks incredible, and I already know I enjoy their eastern European take on gaming. So bleak, and yet somehow satisfying. :-)

And, of course, some of the best jiggling breasts I've seen in any game. :->

*it reminds me of FO3 in that way... great world, with some annoying gameplay

I would look into the Enhanced Edition Director's cut for a first play. It seems to be The Witcher with more goodness! It's £14 and some smash on shopto.
