Same, just at the very end of chapter 1 myself - fantastic game.

In fact, Ive stopped playing for the moment and have started the Witcher 1 - with the mods mentioned in another thread. Want to undertand the story/world as much ass possible.

just started playing this game to put me in some RPG mood for Skyrim and loving it to bits. Only thing is that the mouse cursor just seems "heavy" the game graphics are flying along quite happily but the mouse just seems to lag behind the mouse movements a bit. Is there anything i can tweak to get it a bit more responsive or is it just like that.

If I remember right there is a mouse sensitivity in the settings ini file :)

Edit: Yep there is.
Go to your my documents, inside the Witcher 2 folder there should be the \config subfolder. You'll find user.ini in there (edit it with notepad)

In there you should find
[MouseInput]
SensitivityX=0.5
SensitivityY=0.5
Smoothness=1

I would save, load the game and then come out and double check the launcher hasn't changed anything if you edit that mind :)

ahh, top bananas :) that helped a lot. Still a little sluggish in the inventory but its light as a feather on menus and things now.

How do you tell what version is running? I'm not sure if i have the downloadable content or if i have the 2.0 patch. The in game start menu doesnt have the new game mode. This isnt the steam version.

I am putting off playing this until I can xfire and hit the full settings to do it justice.

Really looking forward to it though!

To quote myself from a few months ago:

Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\The Witcher 2\bin" and right-click the witcher2.exe. The "File Version" of the .exe under the "Details" tab will tell you what patch you're running. I applied the v1.3 patch (latest) yesterday and mine says "1.3.6720.47945".

I would imagine it if you have the latest patch installed, it would begin with "2."

Finally completed this (started in June:eek:)

Visuals are stunning,story and characters were very good. Played through Iorveth`s path, loved the awesome designs of the characters, animations and voice acting.

Best part of the game was the moral ambiguity of the characters and the choices you make. No one of the main characters is clearly good or bad. For example, Iorveth being a terrorist who killed innocent people, but then later getting to know his story and the suffering of his people makes you re-evaluate your relationship with him and whose side you should be on.)

On the negative side, the gameplay was disappointing, the fights were boring and way too consoley, nothing more but mindless button smashing. Mini-games were simplistic as well and got old fast.

It was a good game, but not as great as some people make it out to be.

Iv been playing it since August, currently just rushing through the Iorveth path on my 2nd play through.

I recently got this, too. Completed it in about 3 days -.-' Really liked the game, decisions actually make an impact and the story was great. I played through Iorveths path (some brilliant characters there :p) and will play through Roche's at a later date. The only problem I had was that from Act 2 onwards the combat got really easy. I got improved quen then as many +vitality skills and armor as I could and it meant I could just play through the game without ever blocking or countering after a while so my next playthrough will be on Dark setting :p

Finally started playing this after completing the 1st game.

Absolutely loving it, but I have a few questions.

Are there any innkeepers, somewhere to store your gear? I'm absolutely loaded down with crafting material and I'm scared to throw them away.

How do you use mutagens, I'm only on act 1, but I have around 10 of them with no idea what to do :confused:

From the 2nd Act you can store stuff with the innkeeper (the guy is downstairs in the inn in the 2nd Act). I went down the Swordsman path, and you can only put mutagens on the last 3 abilities IIRC. If you can put one on the ability, you will see a little dot in the top right hand corner of the ability, and you will see a button saying "Add Mutagen" I think.

Hello all, I have just acquired this game, I would like some aid with improving performance.

I'm on 2.0, everything except anti aliasing and vignette is either at low or disabled. The game still looks rather gorgeous (infact pretty exceptional looking) but performance is still not as smooth as I'd like. I've tried disabling anti aliasing but the game then looks blurry, so I definitely want to leave that enabled.

Are there any config tweaks I could try? I think I've messed around with the game settings enough to know I'm not going to wrench any more fps from the game.

Thanks :)

btw I have a ati 4870 512mb graphics card, so I have chosen the LOW texture memory option. Does that sound right?

texture option says something like "texture downscaling" - so if you set it to high, it means lower quality

you should set it to higher than low, because obviously your card does not have enough memory to handle those gorgeous textures.

There is a link somewher in this thread to info regarding every graphic setting you can alter in Witcher 2. Some things can be turned on to get better performance, like the the thing that blurs the background rather than having it sharp. Would be worth searching for that link.

Ive got a quad @2.8, 4gig of DDR2 RAM and a 6870 and can get 50-60 fps easy all the time with everything on the highest settings. I turn off blur because that gives me a head ache.
When i had my 8800GT i was struggling to keep 30fps on low (but still very playable).

Ok I'm a bit further into the game now so have some of my thoughts.

The hit detection is occasionally appallingly bad, in the octopus thing boss fight I get hit by the poison when I'm nowhere near and when it rears up after spitting, I've been nowhere near where the tentacle lands and got killed instantly.

The whole meditation thing to me is slow and tedious, I would have liked quick item usage from the inventory screen. Going through the motions of the meditation simply in order to drink a swallow potion is just...unintuitive. Thank **** they last for 10 minutes so you don't have to go through it a lot.

Combat in general seems to be pitched at slightly too high a difficulty, without the signs I'd have been screwed lots of times.

The fight with the drowners with Tryss was incredibly difficult, I was scratching my head on that part so I ended up just running around and picking them off one by one when I think you were supposed to just take them all on.

I would have liked a short tutorial or a conversation explaining how each sign works, perhaps I missed that part. When you get to the octopus fight that was my first time using yrden so thank god the woman told me to use it.

My main criticisms are the sometimes tedious interface choices and the difficulty being a bit too much at times.

I really love the meaningful morality choices that for once in a rpg actually lead to things taking a different course.

Great game, but a diamond that shows a lack of polish in some key areas.
