The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

My second attempt to replay The Witcher 3, and I have got to the same place as last time before I can't be bothered anymore(half way through Novigrad). And just like last time I am abandoning it for Pillars of eternity.

I am way over-levelled for everything, and don't want to do any of my active quests atm... But of course if I put them off until I will be even more over-levelled for them! The quest levelling really is a disaster in this game. For me there is nowhere near enough gameplay variation to hold such a long game.

This really isn't a game one plays for its imaginary numbers and stats. I play it for stories, atmosphere and exploration, can can't god damn wait for Blood and Wine to release when I will do a full second playthrough.

Agreed.

Long past are my days where I have a blank bit of A4 paper, a pen and calculator next to me to work out stats.

If it feels overpowered I dropped sword/gear levels.

Although I agree the balancing is pretty crap, the game more than makes up for it.

Similar impressions for me. The gameplay, particularly combat, is just not good and the quest structure has serious issues. I have yet to finish it, the good story/immersion isn't enough to motivate me to go forward.

I just didn't even care about being overpowered in the second half of the game. Hell, lore wise Geralt should be overpowered anyway :)

I'm sticking with light armour to try and not get too overpowered. I have already had to raise the difficulty as it was getting a bit easy.

Was doing a quest at Skellige and I think I would have broked something if I hadn't reloaded. The quest in question was The Lord of Undvik one. Had a Scavanger Quest just before the main Island and at that present location my map looked like this.

I thought I be cleaver though and do the Wolf School Gear and Master Armorers Quests first. So first I went to Marlin Coast but couldn't get over the broken bridge to continue towards the Wolf Gear so went back and took the boat, seeing if I could go there the back way, found a Signpost mark, Gull Point, where I went off and managed to climb up the back.

But first when I arrived at Marlin Coast, the Lord of Undvik Quest moved from it's starting position across the map, which I found a bit strange to start with. But I continued anyway. As I climbed up the back way, I arrived at a Tower then went down to collect the Wolf Gear, no problem so far (The blue lines on the map). I countinued into the village to take the road towards the Master Armorer Quest and that's when I bumped into someone I am pretty sure I shouldn't meet quiet yet !! So after that brief meeting I reloaded to latest safe and continued around the village, a while later I went back and restarted my game where I first arrived at the first screeny. I just had a felling I might be breaking stuff if I had continued. :o

Then after having completed it, starting from the first location marker of the Lord of Undvik quest I am pretty sure I would have messed up things if I hadn't. Considering there was some interesting meetings along the way when I did it the proper way. :o  Which someone of you might confirm for me, just out of curiosity ?? :p

I can't really remember it well enough but yeah I think you could have messed things up, or at least skipped some interesting parts, think the reload was a sound plan. :)

Lore-wise Geralt should never be as weak as he is! It all comes back to the main problem with the game. They tried to make an rpg, but the entire premise of the game doesn't fit an rpg so you just end up with a load of half-baked systems that don't really work... In a proper rpg with a character created by the player, progression and skill trees make sense and are an integral part of the game. In a game such as this with such a well established character, all we get are skills that basically make something slightly stronger than before(the different sign upgrades at leat try though to be fair). No new skills, or anything to do with speech or even crafting. The skills are almost entirely focused on combat.

I do like the game but I find it very frustrating that so many of the systems just aren't quite there(a half-assed economy, with a weird tacked on haggling for example) . Maybe if there were some other element to the game such as stealth, or ranged combat for example I might find it repayable, but as it is it is just a cutscene that instigates combat with the occasional follow the trail witcher sense stuff. It needs some other element to it imo.

I really hope CDPR do make a real RPG as I really like them, and enjoy the world's they have created. I have been screaming out for an rpg to do cities properly for years, and this game does it better than any!... And the way they tell stories is second to none.

Thanks. :) Yeah, the way the Quest marker was jumping around I got the felling I was missing things so hence the reload. Guess I might find out later as the game process if this quest had some meaning in the overal part of the game.

I tried and looked at Nexus but can't seem to find what I was looking for. I am using FriendlyHud which has Item Sorting as well, but what I really would like to find is a mod that actually sort the item correctly, i.e. say you have 246 Dwarven Spirit in your backpack, when opening the tab where they are they are in 3 different locations. What I was hoping to find is a mod that sort out anything that takes up 2 or more slots, gets sorted next to each other and not all over the place. And yes, I have tried the different sort functions in the inventory, they still not next to each other. :p Does anyone know if there is such a mod around ??

Secondly, since more or less about same thing. Is there a mod that make the mutagen stackable ? Having the lesser green and blue one all over the place is also a bit messy. :o

In case someone are interested I had a bit of a chat with some modders and they suggested this mod. It stacks almost all items, including mutagen if you so wish, but slight nag with that one. If using the mutagen stack option, then they all stack so can only use One Greater mutagen since any other made will stack with the first one, even if it been used in the slot to enhance your potion/cast/fighting skills. But I can live without the mutagen stacking, atleast now I know how much I have of everything, without having to scroll around and trying to find any duplicates.

I only got round to finishing the DLC last night. What a game! It has its flaws of course but in terms of story telling it just knocks it out of the park and then some.

Bring on the 2nd DLC please :) Do we have any indication yet when the next DLC will be released?

Had this amazing game since release, put 50hours into it and kinda left it for along time and never finished. Think im gonna start all over again when the new dlc is out, cant wait gonna be awesome. In the meantime got about 50 steam games to finish.
