The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Really???

My partner gave me the first book as a gift. I can't wait to get stuck into it. She's Polish and LOVES the books.

Enjoy, and congrats on the girlfriend :p
I have been a fan of Witcher saga since 1999 when I read them for the first time, seeing what CDP did with it has been nothing short of stunning. Btw there are 8 books in total so you have some catching up to do.

I've noticed most of my textures for the environment see to be really low res all of a sudden. Anyone else had this? Is there a fix? Character models are still super-detailed, but everything else looks about ten years old!

^I ended up fixing that by changing some value in one of the settings files. Plus I downloaded the hd reworked mod which is excellent, especially for stone textures. Kaer Trolde looks amazing!

Meh, it's all human combat which is very poor.

Just started Hearts of Stone. The areas added at the top right of the map look stunning!

Gah, think i've played the game to death and i'm nowhere near finished. Played for 100 hours and still in novigrad finding dandilion. This is one of the things I hate about these types of games when you start maxing out skills or potions and loot then becomes pointless. I liked finding new sword oils and enhancements, but now I have most of the main ones maxed out.

Might give it a break and come back to it as I dont like just ploughing through the story and missing side quests.

Started another play through but this time going to every ' ? ' marker and exploring every nook and cranny. Didn't do that last time.

Just stumbled upon an abandoned hut in the forest whilst hunting bandits. Mother and her small child lying dead on a bed with flies buzzing around them. Father is swinging on a tree outside in the wind and rain. Just a game but felt for them and couldn't bring myself to take anything from their meager little hut.

Loving it all over again.

I reckon I am half way through Hearts of Stone. Really high quality. Well presented quests that are all interesting. The problem is it still doesn't offer anything other than combat, which is really poor as it is mostly humans which is the weakest part of the game. They have far too much health. I just faced one guy who was just wearing a shirt and it actually took Geralt over 15 swings with a mastercrafted sword to kill him, whereas this guy could onehit Geralt with a rusty sword! Human combat needs more thought put in to it. They already can block and Parry, they should make it more skill based rather than just making them sponges. It is just lazy, and in terms of immersion it makes Geralt look so weak!

Overall it is a great expansion though.

Just finished Hearts of Stone. 8/10. Really good expansion With a very good little story and some great charctersk including the main bad guy who is really well done. The cutscenes are the best in the game and overall I think it is definitely a better story than the main game. It is only let down by the combat, which is boring as it is mostly humans with too much health, or just randomly inserted monsters in to places they aren't needed. I ended up turning the game down to the lowest difficulty as it was just tedious, in no way fun and made absolutely no sense narratively.

The last location of the questline is brilliant and has a great atmosphere. Very Bloodborne like.

One small note- Shiani is a good character but her accent really got on my nerves!

Never played any of the series, would i need to play the others before 3?

I jumped straight in at 3 and it's been ok so far. There have been a few times it has mentioned characters where I felt there was some back story missing and a few small choices here and there where some backstory on the characters involve would have been handy. But nothing major so far.

It has made me want to play the earlier games to fill in the blanks.

Hmm just booted up GOG client and Witcher 3 is telling me there is a update available. Last update gave me patch 1.12.1 and can't seem to see any other updates being showed at the Witcher 3 forum. Does anyone know if there is a actually update or just the GOG client that is missbehaving for me ?

Anyone here having issues with the latest version of SweetFX and Windows 10? I cannot get the game to launch when I use the custom dxgi.dll file that you rename Reshade64.dll to. The game crashes straight after you click "Play". I think it might have something to do with the DirectX runtimes on Windows 10, but I cannot find any way of updating or repairing these. I know others are using SweetFX quite happily so I really don't get why it doesn't work for me.

I know that Fraps, the Steam overlay (even though I'm not playing through Steam), and the GoG Galaxy overlay can interfere too so these are all disabled. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really want SweetFX to work again. The game looks so much better with the profile I was using.

I seriously forgot to update this post. I managed to resolve the issue. For some reason the game no longer uses the custom dxgi.dll file that's in the 64-bit bin folder, so you have to rename ReShade64.dll to d3d11.dll and it then allows SweetFX to work again. Hopefully this helps someone else here :)

I've been playing the game a bit more recently and it's fantastic, although some of the quests are rather longwinded. Still, it's great fun and the story is pretty damn good too! It also looks absolutely stunning, especially with SweetFX working again!

Just got to Skellige and the beautiful scenery coupled with the awesome chilled out music is a really nice experience. Kind of reminds me of Skyrim.

Just wondering what quests to do now. I'm lv20 and the main quest is lv17, but I have loads of secondary quests and contracts to do. Some of which are getting quite low in level and turning grey.

Should I be focusing on the main story so it catches up with my level or trying to get some of the lower level secondary quests done before they turn grey?

I have been avoiding most of the question marks on the map as someone recommended earlier in the thread so I dont get too over levelled, but seems to have happened anyway.

Thanks, I'm just worried about the main quest becoming too underleveled and losing out on the xp.

I'm loving just exploring Skellige at the moment. Can't believe I am 120 hours in and have just found such a big area to explore, it's like starting a new game :).
