The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Need opinions regarding this debate I had with the GF last night. We were playing some board games with the Witcher 3 Soundtrack in the background.

The song Priscilla sings in the tavern, The Wolven Storm was on the playlist. Now I understand the song is referring to Yennifer and Geralt but my argument was that she was singing this song to reflect her mood due to Dandelion being missing.

GF says she is a poet/entertainer and she just sang the song because that's her job.

Thoughts to all you Witcher nerds out there? :D

A review of Blood and Wine made by Gopher, who last week was invited to find out more about the expansion. Shows a bit more about the inventory systems revamp and armours.

You know, I held out for a long time before buying into this, knowing that it could be a game that would suck away my free time.

I lasted 84 minutes before I got it refunded. Sure it looked pretty, but the controls felt awful to me, and it just didn't grab me in the same way that other games have in the past. Maybe I'm just getting old, or something else, I dunno.

Shame really.

Space freed on the SSD and everything downloaded again in preparation for next week, can't wait to get back in to this. I've held off playing Heart of Stone until everything was finally released.

It's because you only played it for 84 mins. I felt the same at first. Even played it for around the same amount of time as you, then left it for a few weeks before trying again. It takes a good few hours for the controls/combat to click and to get into the story.

yeh I was the same, at first weird controls and didn't get the game, now at lvl 20 and hooked

I cant agree mate. The amount of detail poured in to this game is mind boggling.

It felt like I was playing a multi volume fantasy book series.

My stand out quest has got to be the Crones of crookback bog.

My only gripe with the game is the weapons. Nothing interesting. Other than the Witcher kits which is late level.

The controls are pretty much the same as in any other third person game. Maybe you found Geralt a bit unresponsive ? Go to options menu and select alternative movement response, it removes all movement intertia.
Congrats on missing one of the best games of all time I guess.

I stuck with the game even though I share your opinion on the controls etc. After 60 hours or so I still think it's clunky as hell and the main story is rather shallow and predictable for something that was supposed to be the Holy Grail of storytelling. They went from a clever plot with political undertones in Assassins of Kings to "save the world and the girl". I'm nearing the end of the campaign and there was only one quest which was genuinely outstanding and I bet everyone knows which one.

Some sidequests are very good (way better than the story) so I'd play it for that and for the dialogue which is pretty entertaining at times.

Overall it's still a really good game, just a bit more overrated than some would like to admit.

If you ignore the fact that it's a weak RPG and get immersed in the story/sidequests, then you'll probably have some good fun with it. I still did.

I both agree and disagree with that.. I mean, a good story and characters should be what makes for a good Role-Playing game, no? Weak gameplay mechanics perhaps? Not even weak.. shallow? Tough to find the word... they work well enough to allow the main focus (the story/world) to be shown to you - so surely they're good mechanics? *shrug* The combat etc could definitely be deeper and more involved, and it's a shame they're not but at the same time I'd rather they didn't spent time improving it at the expense of the world.

I played it for more than 84 minutes. The world looks great, some of the quests are well written but:

- garbage combat. I just don't have the patience to play games with boring combat anymore.
- lanmarks. AKA question mark/quest/monster area on the minimap (ty consoles). You can turn them off but then it becomes confusing as the journal often assumes they are on.
- huge world but samey items, why bother exploring?

To me it felt like an Elder Scrolls game with better quests (I got a refund for Fallout 4). It's a brilliant game but for someone who has been gaming as long as I have and for whom the good story is insufficient, there are better options for investing limited gaming time.

Too many people now think you need to be able to level to 100 and pick from thousands of skills for a game to be an RPG.

The story, characters and world are outstanding and leave you hooked for more. I've never played a game and cared about the characters, history and world more.

In my eyes that makes it a fantastic Role Playing Game.

Hearts of stone pc retail with gwent cards appears to be in stock on Game. Better just check though as it showed in stock for me before, but then 5 mins later it was showing as out of stock.

Thanks for the 'heads up'.

Ordered mine earlier, but it looks as if they are still available, if anyone is still after one.

I will now have to cancel my order for the Gwent cards I ordered from America, I think!

Genuinely interested, what game released within the last 12 months did you enjoy more? Any RPG games?

Yeah its just my luck they come back into stock just after I buy it on steam and then order the cards from America :(. Ahh well, it's only £5 more, not as bad as the people paying £35 for just the gwent cards on ebay.
