The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Improvements are RTGI, RTAO and universal screen-space reflections. They've also added a photo mode and some new camera options. Other than that, it appears unchanged on PC (no texture changes).

Kinda mixed messages on the stream - the stuff above is all they talked about for PC but there seem to be substantial changes on console. I suspect they'll release more detailed info on the website.

The presentation was awful, but looks promising. They should really have done some side-by-side comparisons and have it utilise the full screen. I’m looking forward to playing it again, haven’t touched it since completing it at release!

There's some minor content updates too that borrow stuff from the Netflix show - should be a few nice surprises for fans playing it through again or people playing it for the first time. I'd hoped for a more impressive visual overhaul but you can't complain with free :)

It's not clear to me if the '4k textures and models' are just the PC assets on console..? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

A comparison between the original game and a supposed early build of the free update, but I can't see much difference other than in a few select scenes:

Considering the already excellent mods available, the GFX updates seem a little underwhelming for PC (although great for consoles). But it's decent. I hope they've also made improvements to the combat mechanics.

It’s like playing spot the difference, and I couldn’t notice much unfortunately.

Will find out though as I’ve put off a second playthrough for about 18 months already waiting for the “upgrade”.

Either people need to go to specsavers or get better monitors (calibrated) as there is a huge difference in the overall contrast :)

Next gen version still quite cartoony looking but old gen version with all the foliage, trees etc. just looks like cardboard cut out pieces put together.

MY game already looks like next gen? i think its because i already use a high res texture mod

Clouds look better, other than that it's really hard to see.

During the walking scene, I did notice that the rocks and branches didn't really have shadows and looks a little out of place.

I'm expecting Digital Foundry to post a vid today or tomorrow to break it down, which would be interesting.

Still underwhelmed, was hoping for more or a dramatic change, but kind of expected when using the same engine.

Trouble is with a lot of RT games, RT just makes them look washed out like, i mean like where it was maybe dark before or shadow areas, its like gamma has gone through the roof, takes the atmosphere out of games a lot of the time, im not a fan of RT myself anyway.

What did everyone prefer to play this on KB+M or Controller? Just with the combat being a bit hack and slash, but the signs and menu system maybe being better suited towards M+KB.
