The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Anyone tried running the game with hyperthreading/SMT disabled if RT is enabled? I know I got a performance bump when I did this with Spider-Man. Haven't downloaded Witcher 3 to test yet and can't seem to find any evidence of anyone trying this.

Can you do this on a game by game basis? Or do I have to do it everytime.

Use process lasso to set hyper threading off for a single game. Although I don’t think you guys should be messing about re-naming DLL / direct x files. Probably just going to cause more issues for yourself once this game is properly patched.

I’ve been this patient waiting for the next gen update. I’m gong to give it until January to see if CDPR can actually fix the performance issues.
Looks like this has already been mentioned in this thread and I missed it. Process Lasso can disable HT on an application explicitly.

^ I mentioned turning off HT a number of times in this thread but no one seems interested. It doesn't improve 'performance' in terms of FPS but definitely helps reduce mircojudders and getting a more consistent frametime - ergo smoother gameplay which is far more important and noticable.
I also recommend turning off HAGS in Windows, which does similar.

Turning off HT is a well known fix for some badly coded/ unoptimised games. And disabling SMT (AMD HT) is a thing of beauty on Stem deck for emulation (especially switch games) turning them from a juddery mess into 60fps butter.
I didn't know process lassoo could do it though, I thought HT on or off was BIOS level only on PC - will look into that cheers!

EDIT - just tried Process Lassoo to disable SMT (aka HT) whilst in game - did not work well at all and made it extremely stuttery, so the opposite of what turning it off in the BIOS does! On my system monitoring widgets I could see the CPU threads that should be off were still active a little too, not totally off like when disabled in the bios, so for my intel system anyway, Process Lassoo is not an option for this game unfortunately.

I've not tried it simply because there have not been any issues since the hotfix patch and my CPU has strong single core performance anyway so it kind of just brute forces itse way to decent frametimes post-patching of the game.

Just playing slowly waiting for them to patch it with proper multi thread support.

Good to know. Thanks for testing. Hopefully performance will improve after a few patches.

Revisiting this since 2019. RT ultra gives me about 45-70fps on my 3080. Too unstable so dropped RT all together.

Oh well it'll give me a chance to replay it with the gameplay improvements at least.

It's worth locking to 45 as mentioned in previous pages, I am on a 3080 and locked to 45 it's pretty much spot on until Novigrad where it goes to 30 but it's pants there for most.

Guessing this isn't normal :p

Very odd memory leak going on at the moment!

It will be doing 60fps just fine, go into a village and all of a sudden it stone dived to 25fps and didn't recover. Reload the same save in the village back up to 60 and then it drops again... This affects the rest of the game if I don't reload that save

Have you tried the memory pool extension text under optional files?

Not seen the issue myself though but worth a bookmark.

I've got a 4090 and everything maxed including Ray tracing I get around 80fps. If I turn on frame generation in display it murders performance to sub 45fps. Is it turning off dlss and using dlls3 or conflicting?

Shouldn’t be - I’m running a 4090 with DLSS quality and the frame gen on in display at 4k and getting a fairly constant 117fps or so (I’ve capped the frame rate at that.)

Just tried it and used quality and was running great but then froze and crashed. Im also fullscreen in display.

It appears to be MSI Afterburner related. If i run that too its crippled.

Runs great without Afterburner but sadly crashes. Dont know why but must have something to do with frame generation.

I have vsync on in the Nvidia panel, but not in the game.

Interesting re afterburner - frame gen was also causing issues with the gog console prior to an update a believe.

Good you’ve found the issue at least, but bit of a pain.

I had issues 2 issues with frame gen. Screen tearing with vsync and Gsync + crashes within 5 mins.

I fixed the tearing by turning off in game Gsync, and enabled it in the nvidia game profile.
I fixed the crashes by turning off GOG game overlay. 30hrs later 0 crashes.
