The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I keep seeing this thread being near the top of the forum list and i keep downloading the game expecting it to be the next game i will spend 100+ hours on, but countless times i have started to play it and got to the part where you fight the (griffin? ) and just fall off the game entirely, and end up deleting months later, but on the surface it should be a game i like, but for some reason i just cannot gel with this game, what am i missing?

Keep plugging away for a couple of hours more and it should click. I was the same, tried the first couple of hours two or three times but then persevered and have now spent about 150 hours on it combined before/after the recent next-gen update.

New update is crashing the game within 5 minutes. Not tested so far but I suspect that it is linked to frame gen.
I initially had 5 min crashes at launch, until I worked out it was frame gen not playing nice with gog overlay. I disabled the overlay and played 100hr with 0 crashes.

I think i have killed it a couple of times, its just i seem to be uninterested to continue past that point, but videos i have watched in the past and everything im seeing is what i love in a game.

I think you should give it another go, follow the main quest a bit until you feel interested in the story or the recommended level is high and then go off and get lost in the world doing side quests and exploring.

On sale on steam for next 7 days £10.50 for complete edition or £7.50 for base game. Still £35 on GOG
I paid £6.99 for the Witcher3 wild hunt complete edition on GoG on 6th March as an impulse buy in a flash sale. Yet to load it up but did I snag a bargain?

Edit going back I can see someone listed the sale price so hopefully others got in there too.

Provided you like the game, that's a massive amount of gameplay-hours per pound!

Yeah. Guess I'll find out. For less than £75 I have picked up:
Witcher bundle (1+2+3)
Metro bundle
Quake 4
Elder Scrolls V Skyrim SE
Monkey Island bundle
Diablo+Hellfire
Settlers IV Gold
Sniper bundle (1+2+3+Contracts)

I must admit I’m struggling to get into it. I know it’s sad but I keep running through Red Dead Redemption 2 making different decisions each play through. After that The Witcher 3 just doesn’t feel as good. Probably not a popular opinion but RDR2 set the bar so high for me.

I got this when it first came out and was about 50 hours in when my SSD died. Took about a month for RMA and I couldn't remember what I was doing in the game.
Bought it again last night on the Steam sale to play on my Steam Deck.

I find the camera way too close for me and get a bit of motion sickness, so looking for a decent FOV mod, I found one and it works great!

1) You must download the latest FOV Tweak version for 4.01+ located below
2) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZhF3Pw6ckj_N86FVoc9pIxK4W2P1-e5h
3) You must use The Witcher 3 Mod Manager for automatic install/uninstall of the mod
4) FOV can now be set via the MOD options in game menu.

Have noticed that since the latest patch that first load into your save takes longer. In the past it was 10-15 seconds max, but now sometimes feels like 20-30. I monitored SSD usage and it's not doing any precaching or shader compilation etc as there's basically 0% SSD activity, but the CPU cores are being used. So it seems to be something else the game is doing in this time. A minor gripe but would have expected full SSD optimisation by now really given it's DX12 and they've fixed the stutters and stuff!
