***The X-Factor Thread - ALL X-Factor Related Stuff In Here***

They should shoot themselves for serving us more utter tripe and brainwashing the masses into being morons and caring about idiots too much.

On the contrary. I think the marketing techniques used by Cowell and his cohorts are a thing of genius (this word is used far too often, but I believe it applies perfectly to this scenario).

We are now at a stage where a tv show can get the highest ratings on UK national TV. Once the show is finished (for the year), the competition winner, then goes on to produce a single which then goes on to make even more money for the XFactor team. Invariably, this single is the Christmas No.1 and is usually the highest selling single of the year. Then (and this is the real killer), the whole thing starts next year...and every year for the foreseeable future.

I mean seriously, if I wrote this down as a business plan, nobody would believe me as it would be too good to be true. Any sane individual would suggest that the person who produced this business plan is overly optimistic and is living on cloud9. The fact that it has actually happened and is continuing to happen, is almost unbelievable. And this is the reason why I say that the whole concept of XFactor is genius. There is no other word which could describe this.

The only other time I would use the word "genius" in the business world is perhaps with Google (their search engine, their money spinning adsense/adwords and Apple, with their Ipod and now, Ipad).

It's not genius. The key is to never underestimate the stupidity of the general public. Once you've grasped that concept, the world's your oyster.

And that my friend, is genius, in a nutshell. A person who comes up with such an unbelievably great idea, that to date, no one else has come up with or is able to better.

By definition, that is genius.

If it really was easy as you make out, I'm sure you, I and my next door neighbours would all be millionaires and possibly a billionaires.

The fact is that it was a simple idea to start with, which evolved and kept on evolving. The idea has continuously grown. No one else seems to be able to come up with a better idea, which Cowell has come up with.

Even now, the idea of XFactor/Idol, is evolving. Next year Cowell will start XFactor in the USA, with Idol running as well. He will get a big share of the money from Idol and will get the same from XFactor (if it works out in the USA).

Just said on the ITV News that Matt Cardle will earn an estimated 5 million in his first year.

You believe that...you believe anything.

I'm sure that the same was said about Brookstein, who is now doing gigs in empty coffee shops.

Cowell may well earn £5M in the next year, from Cardle, but I doubt highly that Cardle will make anywhere near that.

compare that however with JLS, who despite coming 2nd have had 4 number 1 singles, and a #1 and a #2 album. The week they came #2 was the week Take that released their new album, which i think is fair to say most artists would struggle to beat on the back of the current popularity.

Thing is, the press are hyping Cher up to be the Anti Christ, the evil stroppy child without talent who deserves nothing.

However..

Will.i.am obviously see something in her, and its always been the case you can't belive all thats written in the papers, especially when it comes to celebrity gossip, and simon cowell has gone on record of saying she's not what the papers have built her up to be, so i guess time will tell.

Oh and just as i predicted.

Simon Cowell has signed One Direction anyway

You really can't compare Brookstein to others he was poor very poor, slagged off by Sharon Osbourne and Loui Walsh, G4 were superior to him but didn't win and had good success compared to him. I was amazed watching the final he won as G4 really were in a different league compared to him.

” Their debut album, G4, was released on 28 February 2005. It reached Number One for Mother's Day weekend 2005 and sold over 245,000 copies in the first week. Their debut single, a cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", was released on 14 March 2005, and entered the charts at #9. Their second album, G4 & Friends was released on 28 November 2005, and entered the charts at #6.
G4's third album Act Three was released on 27 November 2006. It entered the charts at #21.

On 5 April 2007, the band announced that they would be splitting after their 2007 tour due to disagreements within the band, Simon Cowell, who had mentored Steve Brookstein through the show, admitted later that G4 and Walsh were the real winners of the competition as they went on to outsell Brookstein

Look at Jedward last year they have made a packet already not everyone will have a fantastic career but they will make more in there short time they have than we will make in a life time.

What is the difference between them??

On American Idol, the acts making it to the live shows are generally more talented, believable and less like council estate rejects.

Simon Cowell is paid by to be a judge on Pop idol by others

On X-Factor simon owns and runs the show and winning acts get signed to the Record Label Syco he joint owns with Sony.

iirc, Pop Idol is run by Simon Fuller, of Spice Girls fame.

*edit* Yep just checked.

Pop Idol is Produced by 19 Entertainment

Founded by Simon Fuller

He won't be getting anything from American idol as he no longer judges it. He had no connection other than that.

Hence the push for Xfactor USA.
