Another big fail by the Met - how many times can they fail on this case even after it's had national attention for years?

Met Police apologises to Stephen Lawrence's mother after breaking promise

It says the failure to answer questions raised by a BBC investigation is "totally unacceptable".

The Met Police has apologised to Stephen Lawrence's mother for breaking a promise to answer questions raised by a BBC investigation into his murder.
Baroness Doreen Lawrence was promised an explanation after the BBC named a major suspect last June.
Multiple police failings to properly investigate him were also identified.
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley apologised and told the BBC "on top of the failures over the decades this is totally unacceptable".

The fumbled the original case because the force was utterly corrupt in the 90s, some of the suspects had links to organised crime as did plenty of Met officers in the 1990s. It's famous as a case where the police have been criticised multiple times for completely failing... and then even now, they promise to update the victim's mother re: what the BBC has revealed re: the main suspect and still, despite this being a super high profile case they fobbed her off... She's a member of the House of Lords and can get media attention very easily and they still fobbed her off, imagine how some non-famous crime victims or relatives are dealt with.
 
I know many people can't stand Tommy Robinson or what he stands for. But if we take his name out of the story for a moment and look at what seems to have happened:

1) Documents were falsified by police.
2) There was no lawful dispersal order in place.
3) A member of the public was asked to remove themselves from an area with no legal basis.
4) That member of the public was then assaulted by police (pepper spray) and falsely arrested.
5) The CPS had the opportunity to drop the case when the above became apparent and still decided to pursue the case, presumably to save face.

That is deeply concerning and anyone dismissing it because it was Tommy Robinson needs to think long and hard about the future of our freedoms in this country.

Like the murder of 15 year old schoolboy Kriss Donald as an example?

As far as the media were concerned it wasn't even on their radar and, without minimising what happened to Stephen Lawrence, it could be argued that the Kris Donald murder was more horrific in what he had to endure.... And the media's response? Practically nothing - a lot of the trial wasn't even covered and there were constant denials it was even a racist murder. Then again, the victim was white.
 
Police attempted to kettle the St George attendees and then blame the people for reacting.

There as also been people trampled by the police horses.

The public are watching.

Some commentary on the Tommy Robinson case + his claims of being a journalist by the Black Belt Barrister:

tl;dr There was no case for him to answer as the order was invalid but he may also have had an argument against the order if it were valid too re: being a journalist as there he has a large following and his purpose for being there was to report on the event.

Seems like a big screw-up by the police and then the CPS has doubled down on that screw-up by pursuing it to trial and even foregoing the opportunity to drop it yesterday when it became very apparent they'd completely screwed up.

I wonder if the police will make a statement about this. Nothing more damaging than police overreach to antagonise community relations.
 
CCTV often only tells half a story but I would be interested to know why the Met police were so intent on stopping one group joining another group on the other side of the police cordon....

The video footage shows police preventing some of the group heading up Whitehall *away* from Dowing Street towards Trafalgar Square.


Because their reasoning seem rather **** poor.... after years of letting BLM and them the Hamas adjacent crowd roam rather unhindered around London and the soft touch they often seem to deploy with the Eco activists they suddenly decide its a certain group that they need to contain to a small part of one road!

I sense a payout being made to Tommy Robinson by the Met police rather soon for an 'undisclosed' sum.

This is the problem when the police forget to police without fear or favour.

Robinson is a repeatedly convicted thug whoose had one over on the police because they forgot to make sure they were acting legally in their desire to target him.
 
Why are the police containing the crowd? This isn't even a demonstration. It's a celebration of the national day. Has there really been violence that needs the police to block the crowd in?
 
So we have the vast majority of pro-Palestine marches/protests/whatever being generally peaceful besides a few garbage individuals who do appear to be receiving attention when they cause a scene like those Hamas parachute ladies versus a group of people that are a near 1:1 match for football hooligans who don't even need politics to go on a rampage across a city.

You know how much resources Glasgow spends policing Rangers and Celtic marches only for the city to look like a ******* disaster anyway? Any other assembly of people seems to be reasonably straightforward, even the Orange weirdos usually are and I hate defending them. Sorry if it hurts some folks precious sensibilities but the police have it right here.
