Thorney Motorsport

Thing is, rightly or wrongly, and truthfully or not, duff work in these cases always gets blamed on the "mechanic that no longer works there".

It's an anonymous, silent scapecoat which is often used for black bag carpet sweeping exercises.

Not saying this is what old Thorney has done here mind.

Indeed, the ex-worker is a constant theme running across a lot of club forums- even Gibbos bad experience was blamed on the new guy too.

Aye very true, could be an excuse or genuine. But no company is perfect and mistakes do happen. TM can't be that bad though otherwise they'd have gone bust years ago.

I still believe DAIR's treatment was somewhat harsh.

I heard the full story when it was posted on VXRO first time round and i can kind of sympathise with him having owned a vectra VXR that liked to throw up check engine lights.

First time it happens, you wonder whats wrong. You check the coolant temp, you notice that the engine feels fine but can't quite understand what the problem is. Your first reaction isn't to pull over on the hard shoulder, stop driving the car and await the AA.

When it happened to me, i stopped the car, restarted it to see if the check engine light disappeared. It didn't, so i stopped again and disconnected the battery for a few mins to clear out the ECU etc.. and try again.

Turns out the source of it all, was that the plugs were on the way out and it was mis firing, but to use the benefit of hindsight to say he should have pulled over immediately without any sign of problem and wait for an hour for the AA for seemingly no reason is a tad harsh.

Still an amicable agreement was reached in the end, and thats what matters.

Correct, well, trainee solicitor shortly.

I've sold a few VX220 hardtops, a handful of other GRP panels (bootlids) and helped in the development of the Spitfire toe link kits which they have sold successfully for quite some time in the Elise and VX220 market.

Oh and I bought the first Chris Tullet exhaust for the VX which lead to John promising to supply anyone who wanted one a £200 exhaust manifold purely to teach him a lesson and attempt to ruin his business. Of course no such £200 manifolds were ever forthcoming.

So why on earth is TMS claiming these things? They come on here to tell their side of the story, and a yet again a story is exactly what they've told. No wonder the man's giving up forums, they seem to force him to compulsively spout bunkum.

well thats put things in a different light

and as for the CSL pwning in the CSL Cup, i put a small paypal wager that the first race wasnt in the same week the CSL was originally delivered to the customer lol

I'd forgot about that ridiculous episode.

Fantastic way to run a business. Put it this way, regardless of his statement which is God knows how late, I'm glad he's not my nearest Jap specialist.

i think the lesson to learn is keep that sort of stuff away from the internet. everyone has their own take on the situation. i saw that thread about the sparkplugs (on here) and ive not seen anything like that in my life, hence my shock and horror reaction, to someoen else they may think its just a part failure.

ive never actually experienced TMS work, it could be all well and good

so, perhaps, to close the chapter, TMS, you should organise a forum geek keyboard warrior open day at your shop so we can geek off over the tools and cars, maybe even organise a few runs in the car, let the proof be in the pudding and then keep the slanging matches off t'web

That wouldn't work as a rolling road day would just bring out all the allegations that their rolling road isn't good enough and/or that they rig it to give good results when they want to.

I understand John wanting to defend his business, but this policy is one that has seen them become public enemy number one in a lot of people's eyes. A rolling road day isn't going to change these peoples minds.

not a RR day, that wouldnt acheive much anyway, i certainly would be interested as the only real use for a RR is diagnosis and i know my cars are fine. id say just an open day where they do a presentation at their shop about what they do, we can all geek off, they could do some passenger rides, just give everyone a chance to see what their place is really all about, rather than chinese whispers going round the web about different people's take on various bad situations.

That is ridiculous.
Ive got a Chris Tulett exhaust on my car and the build quality and sound are superb.

A free rolling road day would :)

what would you gain? there would be no point. put your car on the next rolls and youll get different figures anyway, it would only give people reason to moan about TMS's rolls.

is him dishing out freebies to you going to make you think any better of his operation?
