Lol. x264 is 30% faster!!!!! Few hours worth of video can be cut by a 1/3 by using Linux....

Yup. This has finally convinced me to migrate my entire work flow over to linux. Up until now I've been dual booting.

Phoronix posted a Windows 10 vs Linux 2990WX performance comparison and Linux definitely handles NUMA a lot better: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=2990wx-linux-windows&num=1
Linux seems to get the most out of the 2990WX.

Interesting point was made.

Where the WX was failing the 7zip compression test... check the numbers when the test isn't being run on windows...

Unless I'm mistaken it proceeds to beat the i9 simply by not running the test on windows.

WX getting screwed by the software.

That said, what happens to the i9 when ran on Linux, too?

Its not surprising that the windows scheduler has crossed eyes again, almost everytime we see a significant change in core count this thing needs to go back to school to do a new course on how to handle all the threads properly.

Stupid thing, watch this space - the big 32core job will miraculously get a significant % improvement in a lot of stuff down the line.

Golem.de clams that the Threadripper 2990WX is being held back by a faulty Nvidia driver
In some games the 32 core beast run at half the speed compared to the 16 core 2950X when running an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti!

Battlefield 1, Warhammer 2, F1 2017, Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Witcher 3 are showing similar issues according to the article.

I am not surprised what so ever. I doubt also if this will ever get fixed.

Hence I will shout all hail Vega 64.

How “unfortunate” Nvidia apparently has a driver bug that just happens to affect AMD’s 32 core flagship product.
I can see many potential 2990WX buyers already owning fast cards like the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti.

Panos: I sure hope Nvidia fixes this now that it’s out in the open and hardware sites are picking up the story!

not for all 32 cores

No motherboard can deliver 1300W needed to do that. At best 960W-1000W the MEG.
Maybe we should petition to MSI to remove another PCI-E and add another another 16 phases. The doublers used on the mobo can work as quadruplers also.

Is physically impossible because of the motherboards not the CPU. Yet if someone can mod the MEG, possibly 5.8 all core might be possible.
