Well I am really hoping that they do a 2950X, not just the 2970X, and 2990X. It does look great though, almost as fast a 10x 3770's or 7.75x 4770K's

This so called "glue" is an engineering masterpiece, a miracle by a genius who deserves an award as big as Nobel prize...

10 times 3770s or 7.75 times 4700Ks is roughly 650W, the 2990X consumes only 250W, with a plan to decrease it significantly (say ~50%) with the 7nm process next year.
Next year, say hi to 32 cores at 130-140W, it will be game over for Intel.

Interesting... a quick google for a 1950x at 4.1ghz scores 3413 (happy for someone here to corroborate or add some accuracy) points so scoring 6351 on the 32 core with the 4 modules instead of 2 is scaling very well. (Only a 7% drop in multicore IPC for doubling the number of CCX's)

Of course if you are going to put that 28 core intel monster under a phase change and use it at 5.0ghz it will take the ultimate crown. Intel will have to be talking very fast to make that a story people will buy into though.

If the lowest SKU is a 16 core part it is still going to be expensive. Cheaper than an Intel equivalent but entry into the platform won't be as easy. Hopefully further down the line they produce an 8 core too, unless the new 16 core is priced like the current 8 core but I doubt that.

I like the flexibility of the HEDT platform but don't need all those cores. It would be nice to have all those lanes and premium motherboards at the top end of the mainstream.

Thanks Matt - so on the engineering sample leaks we are seeing what an 8% overhead switching to a 4 ccx layout routing through 4 DDR channels. That is seriously special sauce.

I'd imagine there will be lower, the 1900x was never pushed on threadripper launch but it did exist and was the fastest clocked Ryzen you could buy, I am hoping for the same after all the fanfare a 2900x or 2920x drops, assuming the clocks and boosting are as good as 2700x.

I can't wait for the reviews and the lineup prices.

The good thing about these new second-gen Threadrippers is that they will do gaming in the meanwhile by the way, in the background, and the user will still have large amount of spare cores to utilize for some other heavy compute.

3.2GHz all core turbo seems nuts, even with a 250w TDP. Really makes it a no brainer vs the current 18 core Intel.

Same as above for me - 1950X with a GTX 1070 is fine for gaming. It's probably not such a good choice of your into benchmarking.
