Thrones of Britannia - A Total War Saga

I'd actually love a fantasy TW that wasn't Warhammer. Just not a fan of that universe at all. Would really enjoy an official Westeros or Middle Earth TW, but guess the mods will have to suffice for now.

Any early thoughts on Thrones of Britannia?

I remember playing the Empires and Napoleon TW games and I enjoyed having the use of gunpowder etc. I have always wished that they would again include a period of history which would bring back those sorts of weapons.

I would be interested in a TW game depicting the first World war.

I'll pass on buying this one. Struggling to be enthused about it.

RTW2 was a joke at launch, shaped up better after many patches tho.

Empire & Napoleon imho were absolutely great games. And lets not forget the naval combats also with all these cannon balls.

As for WW1 i doubt it will work.

Imperial Glory was pretty good in its day, from what I remember.

I understand that the WW1 might not be apt for the TW series but I get the impression that this latest title isn't adding much to entice me back to the series - like artillery and canon balls...! :D

Perhaps the Crimean war period would be apt.

Im hoping for the following future releases:

Their next saga to be the American Civil War... granted the scale in terms of factions is smaller, but as a saga is based around that, it would lead to a lot of fun imo

Their next big one (after China) to be Napoleon 2.... the first one was good, I think witht he updated graphics etc, a new one could be amazing on the battlefield

Amen.... Having French speaking Fusiliers holding the line while Cuirassiers or Chasseurs charging from the back with all these nice graphics atm, it will be amazing :)

Empire/Napoleon were my favourites also, although I feel like I'd probably be hugely let down by a new version. Since getting into EU4, I feel like the campaign would be hugely simplistic and unfulfilling. There is something so satisfying about watching clouds of gunsmoke floating into the air though.

On topic, is this worth getting yet, or should I wait until some decent mods are released (as usual)?

Seems to be very mixed opinions, from one extreme to another.

Its as if the battles are a lot better than they have been, but the campaign isnt really great and is a bit more limited... part due to the map/era and part due to changes.

Its probably a must buy in the sales, but at full whack, its hard to justify it for me as it stands.

Seems like this is the worst TW yet looking at reviews.

CA need to get their act together and innovate more, I had a feeling this game would bomb.

Hopefully 3 kingdoms and Warhammer 3 will be better than this garbage.

Will not buy this at any price and even if I was gifted I would not play it. Can’t believe they want £30.

Annoyed as this is the reason Warhammer 2 dlc has been delayed for months.

I think it looks pretty good too. Especially as I'm a bit sick of the fantasy based games, can't wait to get back to real history!

Waiting for a price drop though, I refuse to pay €39.99.

If it's any help - the French Gamesplanet has it for €31.99.

I am very tempted as I love that period of history - however, opinions/reviews seem so mixed...

Yeah same thing with CK2 after I bought it last year. It killed Total War and Stelaris forever, making them very shallow strategy games. Still I will buy the Three Kingdoms because I like China, but not TWW3 etc.

Only HOI IV comes close to that strategy addiction, but is very limited game unfortunately (HOI IV).

(Unfortunately never got to EU4 from the Demo).
