Tinnitus who suffers from it

How long have you had it for?
2 years last Tuesday, yes I know the date it started :p

What brought it on?
Too much clubbing without earplugs in my younger years, I started to wear earplugs about 4 years ago but even with them in the majority of the damage had been done. It came on after a very loud trance night at Digital in Newcastle, even through the earplugs it happened.

Does it bother you anymore?
Not really, some days it's worse than normal but on a day to day basis I don't notice it. When it first started it was driving me mental though, all I could do was listen to the noise 24/7, it totally ruined my sleep for about 6 months.

And what sound do you hear?
High pitched whine, sometimes it varies in pitch but not often.

My Dad also suffers from tinnitus due to work (sheet metal worker) and one of my closest friends has had tinnitus due to clubbing for around 4 years now, he was the one who got me in to wearing earplugs.

How long have you had it for?2 years
What brought it on?Perforated ear drum
Does it bother you anymore? No, only when it is very quiet at night
And what sound do you hear? High pitch sine wave.

You've got it in one. Digital, the loudest sound system in North East courtesy of the Funktion One system they have there. You've seen the stacks, you know how powerful they are haha.

Tip for the future, go to the cloakroom, they've got a box with packs of earplugs there that you can dip and take a few for free :)

Yeah, the stacks are huge! Thanks for the advice, much appreciated! Will probably try it next time, but it'll just be annoying taking them out when people have something to say..like 'WHAAAAT!' :D

I'm graduating this year so will be very sad to leave Newcastle, will have to go to Digital couple more times. Love it here!

Had it for as long as I can remember, like a very feint ringing. Does not bother me at all. I actually assumed everyone had this until a few years ago.

Once after going to some horrible club in Bath I had more severe tinnitus for about a week- the sound of cutlery being bashed together for instance would really hurt my ears, but that's passed now.

Seems we have our 2nd Digital victim!

They're fine for hearing people, they still have to shout anyways so there's no need to take them out (plus it doesn't hurt when they scream into your ear haha, only time i do is when i'm going outside for a smoke break.

I have this, exactly this. Even to the morse code description.

Annoying isn't it! If you struggle to sleep at night the last thing you need is morse code going off in your ear, along with about 2 or 3 other tones. :(

Guess thats what years of raving does to you, or if its something else, I don't have a misses at the moment so I can't use that excuse :p

I have had it for years as well kind of like a low white noise sound, used to drive me to distraction at first.
It came on after having my ears syringed.
Iwent to see a specialist in the field, and infact he had it too, and explained mine was quite mild compared to some peoples. after that day it has rarely botherd me.

Yeah i get it!

I think this the best description possible!

Play a game like call of duty MW2 or Black ops. When you get flashed, or a grenade goes off. The sound on the game goes silent apart from a high pitched noise. Then the sound FX slowly come back. Thats how mine is, but takes about 2 minutes!

How long have you had it for?
Since i was 17, so 27 years. I have permanent tinnitus.
What brought it on?
I used to work at a screenprinters and spent long days with very noisy dryers blasting away.
Does it bother you anymore?
No, not at all not anymore. When i first had it i was scared witless, thinking i was dying etc :) I started to suffer from occasional seizures about a year ago, curiously the pre-cursor to one would be loud music in my ears, not sure if the tinnitus is related, anyway, i have to take Lamotrigine (anti-convulsant) for the rest of my life now !!
And what sound do you hear?
Usually a high pitched ringing noise, sometimes the sound can be a lower pitch though.

Hah! I'm betting Digital causes a good percentage of tinnitus cases in Newcastle, the Dance Stacks are immense - it's crazy how loud they can get and still stay perfectly clear. We seem to have a lack of good "proper" dance clubs in Newcastle now, it all started to go down hill when Foundation got closed. I loved Promise @ Foundation :(

Mine is pretty much like this, might get it once or twice every few days, quite often for no reason but only for like 10-15 seconds at most, then it is gone again. Sometimes though my ears feel very sensitive and slightly light noises can make my ears feel 'prickly' and tickle slightly
sometimes this happens before the 'flashbang' tinnitus, other times they both just happen individually and randomly.

What caused it? Hmm, probably listening to music through headphones for a long time, I didn't/don't really do a huge amount of clubbing so can't imagine it was that.

I know that my dad gets it pretty bad, he takes gingko biloba to try and help it.

there will soon be a fix. which is being tested on mice. human testing starts soon afaik. it was in the link i posted earlier. (from what i understood anyway)

How long have you had it for?
Since I was maybe 8 or 9
What brought it on?
Kinda blew myself up :o

Sometimes it just appears randomly, but normally only after a night out somewhere where there's been loud music playing. I pretty much can't hear anything over 8-9kHz and I struggle to hear people speak over loud background noises.
And what sound do you hear?
Just a constant high pitched tone (randomly occurs), or a lower drone (after exposure to loud noise).

I got it at a Public Enemy concert, it was just insanely loud. When i picked my wife and daughters up from seeing McFly the same night, when the girls spoke, i literally just had a ringing in my ears.

From time to time I get a sort of tone in my ear that lasts 5-10 seconds then goes, but I would be careful about where I stand at concerts.

What?!

Details man, details!!
Remember cap guns from when you were a kid? Well apparently if you take an entire roll of caps, hit it with a sledgehammer, the resultant bang is big enough to leave you with concussion, temporary deafness and long term hearing impairment. According to the doctor my hearing loss is similar to that experienced by front line combat troops :o
