Tinnitus who suffers from it

Sanity at last, a thread talking about a common medical issue but not giving out medical advice, thank the dons for realising the two differences and everyone have some logic!

Can we expect similar actions in the future to be allowed? It's great to talk about it, other peoples experiences with things, just not offer advice except see a doctor.

Next up: Genital Warts.

How long have you had it for?

19 years now.

What brought it on?
Fell asleep in a night club right at the speaker.
Used to Dj in a club and go clubbing

Does it bother you anymore?

Sometimes it still does bother me as i know i'm getting more and more deaf.
But over time you do get used to the noise. I still produce dance music so i've trained my ears to still pick up sounds etc.
What i really hate is your lying in bed about to goto sleep and all you hear is the bloody loud ringing.

And what sound do you hear?
High pitch whistle.

Can't wait til there is a cure for this. I've read thet they are doing test and nearly found a cure, what they do is find out what Hz your deaf and and over a course just make you listen to certain frequencies around those Hz that eventually you do start to hear around those hz again.

I sometimes worry that my job could be causing my occasional bouts of Tinnitus. Been working in a call centre for 3 and a half years and spent a lot of time with a headset on my head, often listening to quite noisy callers. Theres a volume control, but that doesnt always help completely when theres a lot of background noise on the line.

Noticed today that the ringing in my right ear has started again, though its quite faint. This happened not long after getting a particularly loud caller on the phone. I've kept my phones volume down low since then and I'm hoping the ringing stops sooner rather than later :(

How long have you had it for?
Hm, around 6 years ish? =/ Possibly more...

What brought it on?
I first heard the constant ringing after my ears where syringed by a nurse...After which I went death in one ear, after it popped back to normailty my ears still had the ringing.

Does it bother you anymore?
Yes, very much so and i've tried all sorts to ignore it, sometimes its worse than other days sometimes i dont even notice it. Currently trying a few methods to reduce it to see if it works.

And what sound do you hear?
Just the usual high pitched ringing noise, usually constant...sometimes my ear goes 'death' and it becomes more of a low hum....

Funnily enough, I've had two hearing tests at the hospital, both times i past...Most recent time i ended up hearing things people don't normally hear...like -5db apparently.
In general my hearing is good really, I can pick things out others cant even hear :)

I don't suffer from it but I think I might be suffering the onset. Sometimes one of my ears with go dead and I'll hear a high frequency ringing (like a CRT TV would emit) anywhere from a few seconds to over a minute, maybe even more and then it's gone. I know this happens to most people anyway but it seems to be more often now and will also happen when its silent.

Probably from using headphones to loud for many years so I'm trying to keep the volume quite low now and even set my sound card to dampen high frequency sounds (16KHz+) as they're the most damaging.

Wow only just spotted this thread! :)

How long have you had it for?
Since November last year

What brought it on?
Apparently it's stress/blood pressure related, still waiting to get an ENT referal for it.

Does it bother you anymore?
Varies, at times I'd happily tear my ears out and be deaf, was a period a few months ago where I was particularly bad as it seemed to be getting worse every day. In the last few weeks I've been changing my diet, working out more and relaxing more which seems to have helped.

And what sound do you hear?
All the time a faint whistling in my right ear, when it's bad I can hear this incredibly loudly in both ears and hear NOTHING other than that flaming whistling/fire alarm sort of sound.

How long have you had it for?
Around 1 year now

What brought it on?
Went to a club one evening and it never stopped

Does it bother you anymore?
Not really, I tend to forget about it now.

And what sound do you hear?
Just a light high pitched noise, I have now had custom made Pro Guard ear plugs made at a cost of £120 as I do not want it to get worse.

How long have you had it for?
Had it since I was about 7ish, so 30 years - wow, that's a long time & it still irritates the hell out of me.

What brought it on?
Not sure tbh, likely an undetected ear infection. Before it was diagnosed it confused the hell out of me as a child. I couldn't really explain it so well to my parents or doctors. Hearing tests etc all failed to show much, as the sound simply doesn't interfere with my hearing of other noises.

Does it bother you anymore?
Always. I hate silence, quiet rooms are awful, but the worst is a quiet room with a ticking clock. My tinnitus gets quite loud in the quiet, but other sounds seem to interrupt it (or at least give my brain something else to focus on), a ticking clock just alternates quiet with the loud buzz and can drive me insane.

And what sound do you hear?
I've always thought of it like the static on an untuned TV, only a slightly different pitch. It's interesting to hear how other people's sound.

How long have you had it for?
30 years - I'm 30

What brought it on?
**** genetics, I was born with it, I am hearing impaired

Does it bother you anymore?
I can filter it out but as soon as I think about it or read it like this thread title it starts off quiet then gets really loud almost of the verge of a sensation of pain

And what sound do you hear?
High pitched whistle mixed with static like on a detuned analogue TV mixed with someone running their finger around a wine glass, sometimes if its bad enough I can hear fast clicking in my ears
