Tomb Raider 2: Rise of the Tomb Raider Announced

They have a strong first party due to buying them.

It's different buying a developer, I wouldn't have had a problem with MS in this situation if they'd bought Crystal Dynamics. It's lazily paying a third-party to block sales of a game on other platforms that I have an issue with.

Only 2.5% of all MS console owners bought the first TR reboot. Microsoft must have had to pay Crystal Dynamics an ungodly amount of money to get this exclusive, and I just don't see it being a big system seller.

So 6 million people cared about TR, and the franchise has sold over 40 million, so yes clearly nobody cares about TR.....

6 million people cared enough to fork out £30-£40 to play TR. How many will care enough to fork out £350-£400 to play it do you think?

I played the first one on the PC and really enjoyed it tbh, thought it was a good game. I had the new one pre-ordered for the PS4 as, yes, I did want to play it.

However, I do not have the money to go buying a new console to just play the game. Good luck to the developers, but I will bet that there are plenty of people in the same situation as me.

How, it'll barely move anymore systems. Tomb Raider is a decent franchise I suppose but there isn't a rabid fanbase for it.

It's a very popular and well known game franchise and previous games have sold well. It's popular with core and non-core gamers and the last game sold reasonably well, all things given. It might not be GTA, Battlefield or Call of Duty in terms of current numbers but as mentioned we don't know the specifics of this deal and the sums of money or agreements made. However my guess is that it won't be the only game that MS is currently looking to gain exclusiveness of for it's system and will form part of a strategy to increase sales.

Companies buying companies to have access to expertise and experience to further their ideas is normal, I don't have a problem with anyone doing that.

I just don't understand wtf this gains anyone?

It was around in a game starved environment as well. I would imagine a game named "Poo Sniffing Simulator" would have managed a couple of million at that point.

Maybe most of them had already played it on the 360? Maybe the lack of PS4 games helped shift more copies on that system as they had nothing much else to play?

If you don't see it as a big deal then why are you caring so much about it?

That's like saying The Last Of Us, wont sell any consoles as theirs been literally no time to build a fanbase for it.

This game alone won't sell the systems, several big profile games do, and you need a good handful of those to make the system seem worth it, so MS don't go to buying this thinking "this one game will sell the console", they think" this game along with all the other games we have planned will play ITS PART" in making people decide to buy the console.

That's like Saying Halo wont be a big draw for people.

lol... so much butt hurt... :D

Consoles have exclusives, always have, always will... get over it.

Why would it be ok if Sony did it instead?

I didn't quite mean it like that. What I meant was that because its Microsoft who have done this and not Sony, people do seem to taking a holier than thou attitude. If Sony had done this I doubt the attitude would have been the same and there would be far less outcry.

If I was a developer for the game, I would be annoyed that a very large audience has been cut off from playing a game due to publishers making dodgy deals.

You wouldn't care one bit, not at all.

And let me tell you, everyone working on this game knew about the deal long before today.

Its not like they sit around looking at the Ps4 Dev kit gathering dust and go..."gee...wonder when we are going to use that".

Regardless of the merits or otherwise of MS doing this deal the internet explosion of rage has been somewhat amusing. :D

Sorry if I missed it is this a full on exclusive or timed? Shame if it is as would have picked up on PC.

Anyhow if it is a pretty huge catch by Microsoft, a good counter to Sony's Uncharted.

must have sunk a lot of $ to get it considering the PS4 install base (plus the original sold better on PlayStation) and PC side of things too.

Good going, thought the original was brilliant, in fact might give it another play through.

I think it almost certain it will be coming to PC, we have seen how exclusive Microsofts "exclusives" have been so far with both Dead Rising and Ryse going to PC, both by 3rd party studios which this also is.

So will be exclusive as in first on Xbox (PC Later), and never on PlayStation.

I don't get why XB1 owners seem to be really happy it's going to be an exclusive. What difference does it make to them, they would have been able to play it either way .

Well lots of other exclusives for Sony fans to drool over and I'm sure naughty dog will enjoy selling uncharted 4 to the at this time 10 + million ps4 user base..

I did enjoy tomb raider in 2013 on my pc and the excellent performing definitive version on ps4 but I'm sure all the Sony exclusives announced today will tide us over whilst x1 owners have this one.. but I won't spend £300 for just one game... and nothing else on x1 interests me, so that'd be that.
