Tomb Raider Thread

314.07 WHQL is the Driver i'm using btw

This was running well for me until I updated to the latest Nvidia drivers 314.07 and then I get a CTD as soon as my saved game starts.
I have 670s in SLI and running in 2560x1600, and in the process of rolling back to 310.90 :(

Edit : the roll back seems to have fixed it so far.

winter: yes, and too others why is gamepad 360 so much better then others?

It's about the most comfortable pad around, the analog sticks and triggers have a great level of resistance and most games support it natively so they will pick up that are using a 360 controller and automatically set the controls up so onscreen prompts will show the correct button and you don't have to worry about setting anything up. If you use a different pad then you'll have to set that up manually and support will vary from game to game.

Whats the optional movies download? Set that running as I left for work and wondered what it was. Also hope it isnt horrible with kb+m although if it is Ill just have to and set up my ps3 pad with the pc untill I buy a wired 360 pad.

Will be keeping an eye on this thread to see if drivers are unstable for others

ive reverted back to 313.97 - may not be enough, might have to be the 310.90 drivers.

Im at work so wont be able to test till tonight :(

Got some more sneak time in, loving it still! Which I guess means I'm a console kiddy according to the above review?

AWPC how you make me laugh :)

EDIT: 39% of the way through, I played around 7 hours in total yesterday. I reckon I'm about 2/3rds or half way through the actual story. I have slowed down on collecting for the moment through.

I only fired this up quickly this morning to do a benchmark and got an average of around 57 FPS with everything set to Ultimate/Maximum, as long as the whole game is there or thereabouts that will do me, TressFX looked very nice IMO and much better than the standard hair texture.

Well, doesn't seem to be hugely stressfull on my system. Bit annoyed about the hair thing being AMD only. Hopefully this will get adapted somehow.

Its not AMD only though? Just works better on AMD at least thats my understanding given the posts in the thread so far...

Here's my findings on the crashing.

Using Ultimate settings - Nvidia GTX680 1920x1080

314.14 BETA
Constant CTD every few minutes, sometimes seconds.

314.07 WHQL
Crashes occasionally

Using Ultimate settings - Tessellation off - Nvidia GTX680 1920x1080
314.07 WHQL
Played for 40 minutes this morning with no crashes.

I haven't tested the 314.14 BETA without Tessellation yet.

Now I have had a chance to play this after unlocking  the Square Enix hype machine really went OTT this time into massive overdrive

As expected this game is nothing more than an Uncharted clone with Lara Croft instead of Nathan Drake & the target audience is the console kiddies for sure its a long way from the previous TR games by Crystal Dynamics.

Gfx are pretty poor as well the water shader in particular is laughable & quite shocking for a 2013 PC game which supports DX11. Full maxxed out the game looks pretty average to me I am struggling to say anything nice about the gfx there is nothing here which has not been done much better before its pretty average looking so far I know there are going to be free DLC high res movies & textures via in update in the next few days on Steam but that can not change the bland design & uninspired location choices.

The new Lara voiceover is nothing better or worse about the same they should have kept Keeley Hawes but it would not make much difference either way.

Gameplay is pretty poor & the biggest problem is the constant QTE's & camera controlling moments where the player loses control to the virtual camera without warning are almost as bad as Resident Evil 6 & why on earth they still insist on so many QTE's is beyond me as most gamers hate them nowadays as they offer nothing gameplay wise its just a cheap way to save on development budget's

Its obvious that the game only started development after Guardian Of Light shipped as no way could this have been in development more than 2 years there is little content & even less gameplay no wonder they threw a MP mode in the SP is pretty limited now they have removed tombs & replaced with combat turning Croft into Rambo :(

I hope this is Crystal Dynamics last TR game it feels tired & looks like it time to pass onto a new developer IMO :(

How much have you played? Just I heard most of the start of the game is QuickTime then it gets better.

Also the people saying the length 5 hours! You sure your not getting mixed up with Crysis 3? I heard it can be 15-18 hours depends how much exploring you do.
