Tomb Raider Thread

So what icons does it show when not using a pad? Does it update to reflect the newly bound keys, or does it just show X and Y for the pad regardless?

It updates to display the bound key even when using non default binds tho a lot of them it just shows the icon for the action rather than a keybind and others has a legend at the bottom of the screen (this is bugged and doesn't show for everyone/randomly missing for others).

One of the problems is its not very intuiative as to the nature of the key press needed - some stuff it says mash, others your probably supposed to time the keypress with the concentric circles but other times it does those circles when your supposed to just press the key and/or hold it.

Some of them tho its telling me to press <key> but I can do it 10 times in a row hitting the key its saying without that key having any effect at all and then I can do it 3-4 times mashing random action keys except deliberately avoiding the key its saying and eventually it does the action so its definitely some bugs with it IMO rather than me not understanding how its supposed to work.

Thats a bit of a poor show if it doesn't do the keys properly if they are remapped.

I've had no issues at all with a pad. Pressing when it wants them pressed, mashing when it wants the mashed, no issues with waiting for the circles and then hitting the required button, so it definitely sounds like an issue with the keyboard keys rather than a generic issue with the QTE process itself.

I hope they sort that soon, as little things like that can put people off.

I've been loving it tonight, but I've just had another random freeze :(.

Most of the threads I've read on it people usings pads are saying "no problem with QTEs here" and everyone reporting problems are saying they use keyboard. (or atleast talking about the e and f keys so I'm assuming they are on keyboard).

Been playing a bit more with it tonight and it seems to be completely random as to the nature of how its broken every time you reload a checkpoint  which makes no sense at all, sometimes it even works fine after a few reloads.

Playing right now and quite close to the end i think. The whole game has run pretty well from start to end. The xbox 360 pad has done its job with qte input and general precision jumping/gunning really nicely. I am running the game on the ultimate preset and although it's the first time I've had a game under 60fps that I've chosen to complete I'm happy with the shuddering frames as they only happen in cutscenes 10-20fps at extreme bad examples and gameplay is 30-50fps most of the time which feels just fine for this type of game. This is 2560 res tho and just fxaa so maybe time for another 7970 if games are going to come to pc with this quality of textures and effects more often. I have used upto 2550mb vram on this with only fxaa!!!

In summary the only game I've ever enjoyed as much as this is Alan Wake on pc.

I finished this last night, enjoyed it from start to finish. I've just been playing it again to collect a few missed items etc.

Can't wait for the patch and new nvidia drivers to play through it again with.

Just finished, 99% complete, just got 2 mines left to find on the beach (pretty sure that's not a spoiler since they play no part in the story). Cracking game, enjoyed it as much as Dishonored which was one of my favourite games of 2012.

I had 97% complete.

New patch is out for Steam, anyone know what the fix list is?

We have just made public a new version of the PC version of Tomb Raider, build 1.0.718.4.
This patch will be applied by Steam automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client.

This update addresses a variety of issues that we either found out about shortly before release or immediately after.

Fixes include:

- Addressed some stability and startup issues on machines that have both Intel and NVIDIA graphics hardware.
- Fix for players being unable to progress related to the boat in the beach area.
- Some fixes for crashes on startup and when selecting Options.
- Some small improvements to TressFX hair rendering.
- Fixes for various graphics glitches, including certain effects not being visible in fullscreen mode.
- Fixed a problem that caused some users to not be able to use exclusive fullscreen.
- Added support for separate mouse/gamepad inversion for aiming, as well as support for x-axis inversion.
- Fixes related to the benchmark scene and benchmark mode.
- Various other small fixes.

While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone. If you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, Build716.5, that can be used to switch back to the previous version. Please note however that you can only play multiplayer with people that share your version.

We expect further patches to follow fairly soon, addressing further issues we see being brought up by players, and are actively monitoring these and other forums looking for issues.
Sorry for the douple post...

They indeed fixed Tressfx...:D

The collision is much better and the hair is more 'weighty' :)

Also it runs a lot smoother... Im getting better fps on Benchmark mode...

I think this game is good as a bit of fun and it is enjoyable to play but in a way it is dissapointing because it could have been one of the best games ever made...

If they had the graphics, atmosphere, sound etc. that make this game good but more traditional tomb raider gameplay, less / no QTE and made the gameplay actually challenging like the old tomb raider games it would have been 10/10....

As it is I give it a 7.5/10 because the gameplay is pretty basic, the QTE pretty lame and also the EXTREME EASYNESS and BLATANTLY OBVIOUS puzzles etc. It does not feel like a challenging game like half life or the old tomb raiders for example... and as a result of this is not really rewarding as you feel like you almost cannot die even if you tried... especially on the jumping / exploring sections.... It feels like literally a 5 year old could beat this game....

I want to see a game similar to tomb raider 1 but with these graphics / sound / cinematics etc. In a way this game is really good and in another way pretty dissapointing. Must say though the graphics and the story and general cinematics are very good on this game... Shame about the gameplay which is OK but could have been great.

so nobody uses SSAA?

is it demanding in this game?

I use SSAA 2x and it does give a bit of a performance hit but only the same as any other game... Not as bad as some of the other settings such as tressfx or high precision or pretty much any of the ultra settings. I despise aliasing so I cannot play games on my 40" 1080p TV without some anti aliasing at least.

So what drivers are we using now the patch is out are the 314.14 still causing issues?

I'm on 314.07 at the mo and wondering whether to upgrade....
