Tomb Raider Thread

I have a ivy bridge i7/GT680 MX/32g Ram, this game almost makes me want to install windows to have a go just to see what it looks like on 1440p.

Hey guys can you give me an indication on how much I have left to play?

The heliocopter has just crash landed and I just received the dual pistols.

I see what you guys mean it looks stunning in 3D and easily playable at max depth.

Shame it still crashes randomly though for me.:o

now I've finished it, I want more of the same lol

Looking over my Steam library now for another game to play..

got hitman absolution or sleeping dogs that i've not really started or got into yet... I'm actually looking at Bioshock infinite but thats not out yet..!!

choices choices..

or I might play through this again for the third time lol

Look at Tomb Raider Anniversary, it basically the first game but redone in 2007 to give it a modern look, i have been playing it on and off for a couple of weeks and i am really enjoying it, the game is a lot more focused on puzzling solving then fighting.

I have been recording footage of my gameplay if you fancy seeing what the game is like Linky For You

Christ this game just keeps crashing for me now :/

Tried turning the exclusive full screen on and of but still crashes after like 15 minutes of playing.

This is on a MSI 7850 2GB with the latest stable drivers.

Just going to leave it till they fix the game.

Running on that card but I haven't updated my drivers from 12.03 I think.

Well so far I love it! 5850's don't as they sit at 90 degrees!

It crashes the game when I die though?

That's a pretty crazy temp. Mine doesn't come anywhere near that playing TR. You might want to have a look under the hood.

1.0.718.4 patch is out on steam,
Fixes include:

Addressed some stability and startup issues on machines that have both Intel and NVIDIA graphics hardware.
Fix for players being unable to progress related to the boat in the beach area.
Some fixes for crashes on startup and when selecting Options.
Some small improvements to TressFX hair rendering.
Fixes for various graphics glitches, including certain effects not being visible in fullscreen mode.
Fixed a problem that caused some users to not be able to use exclusive fullscreen.
Added support for separate mouse/gamepad inversion for aiming, as well as support for x-axis inversion.
Fixes related to the benchmark scene and benchmark mode.
Various other small fixes.

While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone. If you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, Build716.5, that can be used to switch back to the previous version. Please note however that you can only play multiplayer with people that share your version.

anyone had any improvements/issues with this?

Any views on this game from people who don't traditionally like platform games and are not long-standing fans of the series? How does it compare to say Assassin's Creed?

I'm not a platform fan and having played a bit of Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider 2 and Tomb Raider Anniversary I wasn't particularly impressed, but the trailers look quite good.

To be honest, if you say it is rubbish or just more TR you will probably be doing me a favour :)

Played Uncharted? It's like that but so much better it's almost unfair to compare them.

Theres like 3% of the game thats true platformer style. A lot of its more like COD than traditional TR in that respect infact - aside from if you use keyboard and mouse you can't strafe properly except while aiming :( if you've played Batman AA it plays very much like that just again without being as good on the controls as Batman was but not so bad you will put it down - bit of a shame really with some small tweaking it would have been a much better experience.

I've got Uncharted 2 and it had some redeeming features but seemed very cutscene heavy and I gave up pretty early on, I did a plane crash, sewers thing and then got to this hotel(?) with some guards. Stealth + platforms = yuck.
I did quite like Batman:AA but not as much as some people (I've had Arkham City for over a year and haven't even removed the cellophane!)

edit: I don't mind platformers if they are quite forgiving i.e. I love the Assassin's Creed games which are quite open-ended in terms of how you roam about rather than needing pixel perfect timing on everything and if you fail you fall down and have to spend 5mins climbing back to where you were or reload a checkpoint from an hour ago.
