I don't either - I've been quite clear that while I believe speaking out against Islamists is perfectly fine using it as a cover for outright racism isn't on at all

I'm not sure how they are oppressing a whole people per say - while some of them may privately want to oppress Muslims they're not a major political party and they've not got the power to do much more than simply march and be vocal... There are obviously isolated acts of vandalism, graffiti etc.. carried out in their name which again highlights the obvious far right racist element of the group. There is nothing inherently wrong with marching, speaking out against an ideology.

Or course the Koran contains horrible things & obviously it's taken literally by a portion of it's readers.

The same could be said for fundamentalist Christians regarding the bible, who preach sexism & bigotry - (westbro baptist church for example)

We already have intelligent & respectable avenues to criticise elements of different cultures & religions without resorting to thuggery & stupidity is the point.

Plenty of intellectuals have been very critical of the above elements of fundamentalist Islam - but you don't see any of them rallying with the EDL or BNP.

Indeed.

I've been highly critical of many elements of Islam & others religious practices (including genital mutilation) over hundreds of posts & I've yet to be called a racist.

It's a fallacy that you can't criticise social groups without being called racist, you really can - it's just many people who posses racist views tend to be unable to criticise certain social groups without exposing the real intent.

Can I just make sure I am clear on the terminology? By 'Islamist' you mean the political, and often literalist and conservative movement of Islam, not just any follower of Islam?

You are right in that there is nothing inherently wrong with marching, but I have a problem with the EDL marching because I've seen first-hand the problems it can cause.

It was muslims revolting against hardline Islamists who like we always see in history overpower everyone else through thier insane devotion and willingness to die.Tunisia recently revolted when a liberal non sharia muslim was assasinated by the goverment.Infact two of them were killed.The same is happening now in Syria with minorities siding with Assad versus Islamist extremists.

And in Egypt the brothergood rigged the elections by pre filing out voting cards in favour or mursi or just threatening or killing anyone who voted against mursi.The army came in and saw the danger and rightly kicked them out.And what happened after that? The murder of children, liberals and christian coptics whom were the original settlers in Egypt before Islam.

Do you really believe that the Koran is the only book that talks of oppression of women and homosexuals - you may want to read the Old Testament and see what truly hateful things that says to do to women who don't obey their husband or even if a homosexual is caught. While you are at it research homosexual oppression in African Catholic / Christian countries or do they not count.

Halal isn't the only ritual slaughter, lookup kosher.

I do not really care who thier sponsors are, the quotes would be pretty much impossible to find had it not came up on google.Am i supposed to trawl the quran or something?

And true the bible and such has nasties in it but we are mostly secular now.Look at christian extremists groups like westboro baptist and then look at salafists please.The difference in christian v muslim extremists is quite wide.And as far as i know no one made a law of the bible.Unlike the Quran which is taken as gods word and the only law a muslim should obey.

Shut the hell up i watched it long before i linked it and your towns great that must be why it spawned the EDL.And ive watched all her other videos too about drugs in thailand and ukraine and her new one on bulgaria.She was appalled by being told to cover up.Only a cowardly Brit could watch an attack by muslims on his nations female dress code and try to brush it off.

How long until its your mother or sister being harassed? Get a grip man, the one of the lies being put out and lapped up is FGM there is nothing in Islam which supports FGM. It has been a cultural practice pre-dating Islam which is carried out in both African muslim and christian countries

Essentially yes... Though I also don't have an issue in theory with people speaking out against the religion as a whole too.
Speaking out against 'Muslims' however is more of a grey area... in some ways it shouldn't be too different to speaking out against 'conservatives' or 'liberals' as you're speaking out against people who hold a particular ideology/set of values (albeit with a magic sky pixie). The issue is that it covers a very broad range of people who've chosen to follow an ideology largely as a result of their background/upbringing, so you'd have to be careful with the generalisation made as they might only apply to a small subset of the group.

Someone saying 'I hate Tories' or 'I hate Muslims' is being a bit silly... As there are Tories and Muslims who have rather different views from other people who are part of their particular ideology.
