Top Gun: Maverick

I don't know why people are speculating so much about which country they were supposed to be bombing.

The first movie never identified the enemy, other that they were MIGs and neither does this. It's a summer blockbuster designed not to offend any country they could show it in.

Can honestly say, even the whole "showing you on a map where da enemy is" graphics never once made me think the stakes or made the mission etc more intense.
They did everything for the stakes to be shown and basically I imagine made a "real" training run the Navy would use into the third act.

I loved Hot Shots take on it - "It's between Iraq and Hard Place" :D

I managed to avoid any major spoilers as I was struggling to get time to get to see this but there was no way I was going to miss it on the big screen.

A month on and Hold my Hand on repeat daily.

We managed to get some time and catch this.

Won't go into much detail but.......

GREATEST FILM EVER!!!

Now get tickets to see it again :D

Only seen this film today and it did not disappoint. The jets sounded incredible on the big sound system. Cinema wasn’t packed out either which was nice. Had the best seat in the place :D

How good was Phoenix!! Instantly had Vasquez vibs giving as good as she got and proving she can hang with the guys without being unlikeable.

Infact the whole cast was likeable.

This just improves on every aspect of the original without pooping on it.
Phoenix didnt need to call her wife before the mission like other movies would
The Message :D

Saw it yesterday with a mate, what a film! The intro with the aircraft carrier shots and the Kenny Loggins classic was a perfect example of how to do nostalgia.

Darkstar was just epic, as was the scene where Maverick comes over the radio to set the mission time from 4 mins to 2:15 mins and simulate the bombing run whilst technically grounded, had my heart pumping.

Also lol'd at this...

Darkstar may not be a real airplane, but it certainly looks the part—so much so that the Navy apparently told Top Gun’s producer, legendary filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer, that China re-oriented spy satellites to get a glimpse of the full-size mock-up they built for filming.

Anyone listen to Kermode & Mayo movie podcast? A listener wrote in to point out the attention to detail in the movie, down to the texts exchange between Maverick and Iceman. The fact that they use proper punctuations in their messages, with a Full Stop at the end of each message. To illustrate that they are of a previous generation, before mobile phones, before instant messaging.

I had to look back on my own messages and texts and notice that I do not put a Full Stop after my sentences for short messages. Only when it’s like paragraphs and paragraphs.

That level of attention of detail is kinda cool.

.

lol ^^^ there you go !

i loved the film. I just thought it was a great piece of entertainment, not overly political, not sycophantic to current social trends, and it really showed how much better real stunts and effects are compared to all out cgi.
