Total War: Warhammer 2

Well my Empire is growing and I've accepted some confederations. I've mainly been focusing on beefing up the settlements defences and economy so that I don't need to babysit them all the time.

Bretonnia have grown quickly and war is inevitable. They are currently strength rank 1. It got interesting when Bretonnia declared war on Middenland right at the heart of my empire. I quickly revoked my non-aggression pact and lined up my armies in position to capture the settlements before Bretonnia. I managed to get all but one. I've revoked military access to try to box in Bretonnia, but they generally ignore this. For some reason most of their armies have gone north, so I may use this opportunity to invade their land before they get even more powerful, but it is going to get messy, especially if other forces get involved.

Great fun so far.

I picked up both games a few years back in the summer sale I think, but never really played them. I picked up all the DLC and started a game last night as Dwarves. I could start with The White Dwarf as I got the code for his DLC ages ago in a whitedwarf magazine and must have put it into steam. I am botu 20 turns in and a double stack of greenskins has already taken back one of the outposts i captured and put my Lord in the hospital for a few turns after wiping out his entire army..................

do you need to leave garrisoned troops in each outpost / city (like you did in the original Rome total war) or are the garrisoned troops you get by upgrading the main building , building new buildings etc enough to fend off an attack ? This is the bit that isn't really clear. I iwas only marching 1 army (full 20 units) in the firs province to take back dwarven land that the greenskins took, and then suddenly 2 full 20 stack armies of greenskins just appeared almost out of nowhere and went on a rampage.

what am i doing wrong ?

Must admit the game is really good especially with the extra mods and stuff you can apply from the steamworkshop

Lost a Mootland (Lost Factions mod) campaign in 25 turns last night. The final showdown with Sylvania didn't go my way (largely due to the fact the AI cheats).

Halfling units can hide anywhere (inc Generals). So I put them off to the flank, a good distance away from my main line, which was made up of Dryads, Ogres and Tree Men, supported by Hot Pot Artillery and a Light Wizard. The plan was to hit the Sylvanian army in the rear when they engaged my main line. However, the moment the battle started, the AI charged straight toward my concealed units. Black Knights (Lances and Barding) vs a group of Halflings with kitchen knives, farm tools and bows. Safe to say, they routed pretty quickly except for my General, who lasted the rest of the battle before falling wounded.

Despite this, it was a close fight. They had a Vampire (Death) and a Terrorgheist left at the end. My Light Wizard ended the battle with near 500 kills.

The following turn, the other Von Carstein faction took my capital. Maybe I could have salvaged the campaign, but Mootland have very limited production outside of their capital. And I had no army.

Seems like a decent mod though. Mootland have an interesting starting position. The mod adds a third Vampire Counts faction (Blood Dragons) and one Chaos faction (Chaos Warp Defilers) in their vicinity. You start Allied to the Empire, but some of your neighbouring Empire sub-factions (e.g. Averland) dislike you. Should be great when it's finished as they're working on a load of factions, including Amazons and Albion.

After you have taken over a city, there will now be a garrison (no need to add anything) and as you upgrade the buildings, the garrison will grow in number and strength as seen from the panel at the bottom of your screen.

No fort walls are in place, so you can build them for the smaller towns and cities will have much larger defences (walls, etc). Best to look at Youtube for a clip on gameplay..

Well, I have to say that in barely playing TWW1 for the past 4 years I have been missing out. I am 20+ turns into my Bretonnian campaign in TWW2 as Repanse de Lyonesse and really enjoying it. The desert attrition really makes you have to calculate your moves. So far I've wiped out the Strigoi, razing Al-Haikk and occupying Fyrus (site of strategic importance) in the process, whilst taking out two Beastmen hordes (cygor artillery are brutal). Made pacts with both nearby Bretonnian factions, although The Knights of Origo promptly moved into Al-Haikk after I razed it and stopped me finishing a province quest.

I'll shortly be turning my attention east to the Tomb Kings from my second base in one of the formerly-ruined settlements, but need to spend a bit of time healing Repanse's army first. I have four lords in play and need to grow a second stack too. Only mods I have running are the Immersive Battle Banners and the Total Unit Resize. Need to have a proper look through the workshop once I have a feel for the game.

One grumble - is there an easy way to re-align units in deployment (i.e to face preferred direction), rather than dragging the mouse cursor and having to reset the unit formation? It's a cumbersome process.

P.S - choosing between the Fay Enchantress and Repanse is like that Baywatch dilemma in my youth: Anderson or Bleeth? But the Damoiselle de Guerre won my knightly heart. :D

Dwarf campaign should be heavily defensive at the start of the campaign. Take your initial region and just defend your settlements until the minor settlements have walls (and upgrade them ASAP to get the walls). Once done you can start thinking about expanding elsewhere.

Control and left click drag lets you move formations. Control + Alt lets you rotate units around a central axis, so may want to try that!

Playing as Chaos on legendary atm trying to vassalize the north and awaken a few tribes before moving south. The empire factions are not making it easy sending constant incursions. They'll be in trouble if I manage to hold until Kholek with his shaggoths show up. Its great fun and quite the challenge coordinating with my northern vassals which include one Skaven faction, clan moulder. Wish I could give them more specific orders though.

Good luck when the order tide hit you, you are in for a hell of a tough campaign.

Due to passive Ai of the vampires and drawves stomping greenskins always. The word on official forums is that order factions always ally up into a super alliance (high elves, brets, empire and drawves) and just dominate 90% of campaigns and sending wave after wave of stacks at human player.

With chaos you going have hard time stopping them from settling ruins behind you.

This totally deserved the labour of love steam award how did it end up to gtav

Probably between contentious online awards tending to degenerate into a fanboy clickfest and Warhammer 2 is a sequel that hasn't been around as long as GTAV and we will have Warhammer 3 soon that will basically make all three titles into one game so to qualify Warhammer 3 will need to be kept up to date as long as GTAV has been or for a while at least.

No, they don't deserve it. CA have been milking the DLC releases for this title and quality has been extremely inconsistent and some of the mechanics have been truly awful to the point where you have to ask if they were ever actually playtested. Also, the amount of bugs present is very sad, with some bugs being present for years, some fixed then reintroduced with new DC or patches.

CA make good games but have really bad development and quality assurance processes.

Modders are a primary reason why people still play this game long-term.

So which mods would you consider "must haves"?

What are essential mods for the campaign?I've mainly played multiplayer. Everytime I've tried campaign it feels slow and sluggish due to the turns. Want to give it another go.

Look at the steam workshop and the top subscribed mods of all time:

I dont know how you expect a developer to produce balance patches, high quality dlc and reworks of old factions with no new income. And what did GTAV do to deserve the award? New content is nonexistent plus it has a cash shop and a casino. The warhammer 2 dlc is high quality, true to the lore and fairly priced imo.

It has always been this way. I remember when Medieval 2 was released, any army caught under missile fire would run round and round in circles until they broke. Didn't get fixed for ages. Rome 2 was broken beyond belief and took years to remedy.
