Total War: Warhammer 2

It has always been this way. I remember when Medieval 2 was released, any army caught under missile fire would run round and round in circles until they broke. Didn't get fixed for ages. Rome 2 was broken beyond belief and took years to remedy.

This +1. As good as TW:Warhammer 2 is I've never quite forgiven CA for the mess they made of TW:Medieval 2, and TW:Rome 2 especially. The latter was beyond awful.
 
I’ve defeated chaos.

I’ve defeated the world walkers - what a pain that was given the cold attrition.

Bretonnia and the dwarves have most of the rest of the old world - my strategy now is to pick of settlements they lose and to reinforce my armies. Then at some point it’s going to get messy.

Vampire counts are my next target. 6-8 stacks should make short work of them.
 
Good luck getting rid of the dwarves they always seemed the hardest to get rid of in any of my campaigns, especially if I played an undead faction.

At least I won’t get much, if any, attrition when in their regions. I think I would go up against the dwarves before bretonnia, but we all have a defensive alliance and I doubt I can take both on unless I stockpile some serious cash. Distance across the empire is the main problem. Having a blast though.
 
Well I was about to declare war on bretonnia with six stacks ready to pounce on their old world settlements - but then got drawn into a war with a skaven tribe and orcs on the Far East of the map. Six stacks there also that I need to eventually send west.

Meanwhile, thinking the old world is peaceful, bretonnia have headed to the new world. I just need them to break their alliance with the dwarves.
 
I’ve picked off the eastern skaven and elf territory. I’ve taken some of the independent dwarf strongholds.

Now onto the southern tomb king territory and to remove the smaller dwarf and bretonian allies.

This has given me the cash for a few more stacks.

Ultimately I need to take on the dwarves, although I may move onto the newer western territories first. The dwarves just have too many strong stacks, spread out across too much distance and in territories that lead to too much attrition. No idea where I’d start.
 
I'm around 120 turns into my Repanse campaign. Essentially using it as an intro to the game and controls, as it is years since I have played a Total War game, and particularly as there are a couple of really obvious gameplay aspects which I had failed to understand how to action early on (hello, knight lance formation :mad:).

I dusted the Vampire Counts early in the campaign and then set about a campaign of conciliation rather than aggression, building strong ties with the two nearby Bretonnian factions, Dwarves and Lizardmen. I then confederated the Order Of The Flame and have used the increased military strength to make inroads into the Tomb Kings. I've just razed Khemri after first sacking it for a mighty £59k.

Couronne are atrociously strong in this campaign and have either confederated or dominated every faction within that part of the map, and seem to have about 50 armies marching around. And this brings me to a gripe: some of their 20 stack armies have 16-17 knights units, which basically gets them around the 'peasant economy' limitation. That is thoroughly annoying. Which mods are you guys using to better balance the game?

The Bretonnians become more interesting tactically later into the game, once some of the specialist units are unlocked. Early on there isn't a huge variety possible between the trebuchets and massed bowmen, weak block infantry and using the knights as a flanking force to try and take out opposing artillery or generals.

Starting to consider which faction I may like to play next, and I am erring towards Skaven just over Lizardmen. Although I do like both the Wood Elves and Tomb Kings...

Always try to have 2x strong stacks together at once when taking on tough opponents... that way you should win most field battles and have enough to overwhelm garrisons and walls.

This is my tactic now. I declared war on one of Couronne’s allies and both them and the dwarves declared war on me. I was ready to take on Couronne, but not the dwarves also. Fortunately they had been fighting a war in the west and had left minimal forces behind. I had multiple groups of 2-3 stacks ready to pounce and have managed to take about 1/2 of the dwarf territory and most of Couronne.

Started off a very hard campaign as vampire counts on Mortal Empires. about turn 165 and have about 40 settlements but the game is getting boring and tedious now.

The chaos invasion is totally broken, so much so it probably should be removed from game. It can’t get past Kislev, funny saw sarothel and kholek stack stuck and not moving. Archaon stack was sitting just by Kislev city and I settled nearby he attacked me next turn even though was green relation. Beat his arse as he attacked me when I had 3 full stacks next to each other.

Dwarfs are now down to 4 cities but can still afford 5-6 stacks of elite troops. They are attacking Gudabad with 4 of these and I am just sending Manny round the back taking their last cities, note they are even in power with me on the scale(I have 11 armies). ai must get 50k turn on very hard to afford stuff like this, Ca have gone to far with buffs these latest patches, heck even border princes with their 5 cities have 7 stacks full of gold chevron troops.

Carstein, mousalion and barrow legion Ai is broken, they just sat there start of the game with one stack and did nothing, this have been confirmed on official forums. Hence nothing keeps empire or drawfs in check in old world. I think vampire pirates have same issue too. Sartosa with one city could only afford one stack compared to border princes 7 stacks from 5 cities.

Greenskins do nothing, poor autoresolve and always get whipped by drawfs, in fact they die quicker now as Eshin hits then too. In dire need of there overhaul. Note greenskins have 3 cities, including a capital, for some reason they can only afford 1.5 armies compared to drawfs 6 with same amount of cities.

Clan Eshin must have order faction ai as they ally with drawfs early on, lol, reports on forum this happen last very often.

Lothern has 60 settlements, hence not sure I can be bothered taking them on after I wipe drawfs and empire. Lizards 30, of course they best buddies. Breatonia also have 25 cities are allied up with previous two.

Dark elves have 5 settlements left. In fact only real chaotic faction ai that’s done ok is Throgg who has most of Norse’s but not many armies. Not including Eshin as they buddies with all order factions however they may make peace soon. Also Eshin are running stacks of skaven slaves, where the elite stacks like order factions?

So having seen for myself, mortal empires is broken at moment in vanilla. Certainly at higher difficulties due to poor ai balance. Order factions seem to get massive buffs compared to chaotic factions. Plus order don’t fight each other except maybe Reikland fighting other empire states.

it was challenging at first being attacked by drawfs, Eshin, empire states couronne, tilea and border princes but after fighting so many battles manually due to poor auto resolve it’s boring as hell. Half the game units may aswell be redundant as ai don’t use them past certain point unless forced.

The arrival of chaos signaled the remaining order factions to ally. So they are all declaring war on me as I am fighting their allies. The first lizardmen stacks are turning up in the badlands.

Would only play Vortex campaign on vanilla due to these issues until Mortal Empires is fixed or play Steel Faith. Mortal Empires in current mode does not feel like a sandbox as you know what the power blocks will be before you even start.

There are tons of mods to mitigate these issues. Use them. :)

This, but also I find that once one faction starts to steamroll it is like a domino effect. Confederations don't help this either.

Greenskins got wiped out early in my game, I never even got to fight them.

The last chaos invasion was easily taken care of my a few of my early game stacks. They wouldn't stand a chance against my elite units now.
 
I'm playing as Malus Darkblade and I only got to wipe the dwarfs out to get short campaign victory. They are recruiting a full stack every turn and I'm getting burned out from the constant battles. I see a pattern with this all of my campaigns come down to wiping either the dwarfs, empire or high elves in a massive slugfest.

Yeah, I usually do play with grimhammer and the custom settlements. I actually am playing with one mod so when a faction of your race type gets wiped out you have the option to recruit the LL. useful as confederation is even more difficult now.

This is actually the first campaign I have played on Vanilla in Mortal Empires, used to always play Vortex vanilla. Just wanted to see how bad it was for myself.

The turn times are great though and I would like to see the full vortex map merged with the old world, don’t see why this cannot be done for game 3.

Fingers crossed CA releases new patch and greenskin update in next few months.
 
I think the smaller map was a concession to what they knew then were atrocious turn times so hopefully now they've gotten that nice and sorted the WH3 version of Mortal Empires will have the full map all through.
