Tower block fire - london

If the fire brigade got there in six minutes when it wasn't so big why wasn't it evacuated straight away?

Surely that should have been the first thing to do.

Getting there is the easy part - evaluating and setup plus apparently they struggled to get above the 8th floor or something either due to hose length or the max they could project effective cover against the fire they were dealing with as they'd need to be dousing to prevent the evacuation path being blocked off.

Apparently they were already fighting a defensive fire by the time they got there with no chance of getting it under control - which seems to be due to the flammable nature of something in the cladding.

There was a woman being interviewed live at about 11am on the Victoria show on BBC News, she was saying she saw the fire when it was tiny and tried to go inside to warn everyone but the police stopped her from doing so. She seemed extremely angry about it. She also said they didn't start pouring water until a couple hours after it started. She also said the fire engines didn't even have enough access, and from videos on periscope it seems there was only ONE fire hose on that side of the building.

If there is an investigation, I hope this part is not overlooked.

This happened in Dubai two years ago and no one died, just injuries.

Granted no two cases are identical.

Now we have almost 100 dead if not more!

May doesn't even meet the people in the community of the Grenfell Tower fire.

If there is anything to that might explain why they were trying to stop live streaming of it for the first hour - but people would have video to upload later anyhow and it doesn't really make much sense.

One person they interviewed said that roadworks on the nearby main roads meant that lots of people were filtered through rat runs and forced to double park making it very hard for the emergency services to get access and claimed the council had been warned about the problem several times.

I can't be 100% as my recollection of times is a little hazy but I work up about 22 minutes after it started I think give or take and there were atleast 2 hoses spraying on it outside at that point and they were trying to setup an evacuation inside - was definitely less than 2 hours into it.

She (and/or those close to her) literally has a perspective on this country entirely of her own that has little foundation in reality :|

I'm sure that will be investigated in time but I don't think the reaction of the emergency services is something anyone would want to criticise without serious evidence for it

So jezza esential did nothing while she had a meeting with the emergency services who actually know what's going on, what the problems they had were and what needs changing?

Also I bet the Firefighters and police and ambulance service hero's where thinking "its just my job" go and support the people who actually need it...

"Firemen confirm defeating encryption would have prevented fire"?

Wouldn't have hurt her to do both despite the abuse she'd have received. Although I suspect she'd have had negative press regardless of what she did.

Totally nothing to do with trying to stop people comming across videos of loved ones/relations/random members of the British public being burned alive before they where informed I suppose

You can think and discuss it though, they are not gods to be worshipped and if they have made mistakes then they should be accountable too.

So every time there's a fire/incident the PM must stop everything and rush to speak to people who lived there?

We're going to need to fire a few more PMS in that case

Its never been done at disasters, etc. like this before.

You're not for one minute suggesting that May was having a meeting on "what went wrong" are you ?

And if this had any gravitas on anything?

The damage was done.

The thing to do was to offer support to the community.

OMG the more politics is discussed in these forums...The more forum members "people with reputation and clout" seem to come across as all actually not very bright at all....

These cladding blocks which are added to the exterior of the tower blocks, are they of similar material which have been used to clad council housing homes under the government green scheme?

Not at all but if she's gone to the effort of going down there to make an appearance I would have expected her to meet the people as well.

As said I don't think it would matter what she did she'd still have done something wrong in the eyes of media.
