Tower block fire - london

200k to fit sprinklers too the block someone said on news-night last night ridiculous it was not done , but yet they spent £2.6m on the facade of the building dodgy cladding windows ect.. urgent review going on in Sheffield by the council of the cladding fitted to blocks here i hope this is being done everywhere in the country.
 
This kept me up last night thinking about the poor people who had to get out, I was thinking on my own I could just crawl cover my face and hope for the best if need be, but with my wife and 3 kids all under 5, it makes me feel sick thinking about it.

What a horrific tragedy.

you glee and salivation at being able to point the finger is palpable.

Let's just quickly wrap up and enquiry so we can 'punish' the 'guilty' so we can all feel better about ourselves

yes lets just presume 'someome' must be guilty and found to be so before we know even half the facts....
 
The Tories are having a nightmare with this. They seem so ingenuine when trying to talk about it in a sympathetic manner. And their efforts to defend the PM are cringeworthy.

it's true that the traditionally stoic, reserved and measured old guard arr at odds with today's hash tag, over emotive, emotionally incontinent, twitter lead, heard mentality new media....

not sure that's something to celebrate

According to an article I read on Yahoo it claimed the cost of the fire resistant cladding is £2 more than the other one which is banned in America. They claimed it would have cost only £5000 to put in the fire resistant stuff which, if true, makes it even more horrific.
 
I think the fact that £8.7m was spent on the renovation shows that this hasn't happened due to austerity or budget cuts, as much as people are trying to make out.

There has obviously been total incompetence and mismanagement in the choice of cladding material, the fire safety procedures and the lack of alarms and sprinklers, but to try and say that this is the fault of decision makers on austerity seems a bit farfetched to me.
 
All I take from the coverage of this is that we've become like the US with the media not even hiding their dislike of the current government and their love for the losing opposition.

Yep absolutely, we already know the slogan "lessons must be learnt" is utterly meaningless. Let's at least try to make it less so.

why would they? If they did nothing wrong, then there's nothing to answer for

If however the enquiry does turn up something, then at least we can be safe in the knowledge that real improvements are going to be made....forgetting Lakanal House of course
