Tower block fire - london

The empty property thing is just another corbyn robin hood fantasy to rile up the 'poor people' that has no basis in reality.

His politicisation of the fire whilst people were still burning to death was sickening.

The left wing media trying to present him as some sort of Princess Di figure is hilarious - its a long way to fall when the bubble bursts...

I think you're wrong, he actually gives a ****.

Well... a lot of people have lost their homes and lives because a building wasn't sufficiently regulated.

I can imagine a lot of people being envious of the rich. And I don't think of they are rich... But because its unlikely that this would have happened to a building in a richer area.

All the nice buildings will have a fire alarm I bet

I'm pretty sure the block had a fire alarm as well it just didn't work as intended? It's a building in one of the richest London boroughs that has recently undergone a multi million pound refit. As other people have alluded to some of the proposed 'solutions' cause many issues on their own....

as my nan uses to say..
I think there's one born every minute.....

maybe people are confusing virtue signalling for true effective action.....
Corbyn has a pretty long history of giving a ****. As a career backbencher unexpectedly thrust into leadership, I doubt he was always doing it for political capital.

Fire alarms are supposed to be regularly tested. But cutbacks means they just aren't. They used to test them weekly where I work (which is government owned site), but not done it for months now so who knows if it actually works :/

On top of that, the heating system leaks oil fumes in to the vents (will cost 100k to fix, so now it's just left off even over winter), the plumbing is 70 years old, there are electrical faults all over site (2 people got electrocuted a few years back) and the aircon units in 2 server rooms are dead. The place is literally falling to bits and becoming dangerous because of austerity.

Agree, hes being portrayed as some sort of white knight here to save the day. Hilarious.

There were fire alarms in the communal areas which are managed by the building landlord and these didn't go off until 4am apparently, presumably that has something to do with the fire raging up the outside of the building and not actually in the communal areas for a while.
The responsibility for fire/smoke alarms in each flat would fall with the owner or individual landlord.

it's pretty easy to make noise and say you would give jam to everyone if you were in power whilst your a backbench political agitator or even leader of the opposition. Corbyn praised and admired Hugo Chavez, a fellow Marxist who lead Venezuela down the road to mass starvation and ruin. He specifically praised him for 'helping' the poor.

appearing to give a **** about the people or the 'poor' hasn't historically been a good indicator of actually being effective in improving their conditions

There was significant smoke way before that. One of the people who got out (think it was the parent of the girl who did her exams the next day) arrived home and saw smoke when someone got out on the 4th floor - think that was not long after it had started.

It's worth noting that said cladding material is actually banned in the USA and Germany.

It is a factor that should have come out of any reasonable risk assessment. You start off with assuming any material is suitable than following a hazard register based on material properties size, height, strength, location, yes and fire resistance or risk due to occupancy, you eliminate unsuitable solutions.

This cladding was probably entirely suitable and justifiable for a low rise or industrial high rise maybe with low risk of fire or built in an open environment away from other property.

That is the usual design process and selecting or even banning material without risk assessments is fairly useless. Evidence of this process is what the investigations will be looking for.

He's promised to fight for justice/truth for those affected. People appreciate that, and he's going to have to deliver on that effort.

The PM has promised actual help in providing alternative accomadation (not fantasy mansions) and a public enquiry (not a political mudslinging fest followed up by ambulance chasers).

He never gave a **** about British soldiers or their families when he was supporting the IRA who were bombing them.

Yes where here again and this time people are angry and I am one of them Governments tory and labour have cut and cut this country to the bone then when something like the London block of flats fire happens they go into hiding giving the old chestnuts ( we will do everything in our power to stop this happening again will they- will they hell they let company’s off the hook for regulations, skimp on building materials , and lease out contracts to the cheapest bidders some might say but you can’t look after everything that goes on – NOW try telling that to the poor relatives who lost there mums ,dads sisters and brothers – WHY- because of Austerity do people of all colours, race, nationality young – old cutting back to the bare bone Politicians should bee ashamed of themselves for letting it get like this My wife said this morning when you go to buy a chair or a living room suite if it as no fire proof foam you would not buy it there again regulations say you cannot sell it so why wasn’t the insulation foam between the metal casing not fire proof what a shambolic country we have become where money is more important than life

And has for that councillor who came on tv this morning saying they looked at the safety issue and thought it was ok should have to live in a block of flats for the rest of his life

RANT OVER FOR NOW
