Toyota Yaris GR4 4x4 Rally going into production.....

The way I read it so far it was the tuning boxes that were giving us 300 rather than the filter and pipe work. I don't feel inclined to map and lose the 5 year warranty on the engine, an add on box maybe.

The guys at RS Fab I think dyno their car stock and it was around 267HP, they then fitted the catback exhaust which pushed it to 279HP area, they then added a tuning box and were at 309HP.

Found this quite interesting and unexpected. Not too much of a surprise that the Civic Type-R and the Mini GP3 seem to have the legs on the Yaris at higher speeds when you look at other videos, but this was unexpected. I'd like to see a Golf R vs GR Yaris drag race :)

GP3, Type-R, GR Yaris

The Focus RS is a slow car I’ve raced a few at VMAX events and they are nothing special, laggy, heavy and simply not enough power, even tuned they are nothing special.

A Golf R even stock if it’s a DSG will easily beat the Yaris I feel, manual version will probably be close. The Golf’s real strong point is they benefit hugely in real world performance from basis tuning, having owned one, the DSG with a map and some exhaust tweaks is a high 11s quarter mile car and that’s with just a few quid spent.

The Golfs problem is it’s very capable and a superb car but it’s boring to drive.

The GR, Type R and the Mini GP are all real proper cars designed by engineers pushing and tweaking to the max. I think once they are all tuned with similar power the Yaris will come out on top.

I hope the YouTube Channels will put a GR Yaris with tuning box up against the Type R and Mini in the dry along with a stock GR also to see the impact the tuning box is truly having as the box of tricks seems to be delivering some very impressive numbers and is a simple and cheap solution to gain 30HP.

The GR needs more power as it’s chassis is too good and I think 330-350 will be sweet spot but of course they will go all way to 500HP in future.

500BHP Yaris, wow can't wait to see that mate.

I won’t be doing one but for sure they will exist considering HKS already have a 475HP car in testing.

I’ll be happy with around 330 be plenty in something that’s lightweight, but as always there is gonna be some crazy people pushing 500 plus horses out of them.

Yep the 90’s were indeed the goldern age so many classics were born.

My favourite of that era if not of all time was the Lancia Delta Integrale, the ultimate and most successful homologation rally special. Still looks absolutely gorgeous, just a shame I’ll never be able to afford one.

One of my mates had two, one just like the above and the other a full Martini livery edition, he also had Sierra RS Cosworths and I bet he wished he kept them all but he moved them on.

My Mrs got me the TRD carbon pack for the interior as Valentines present. :D

Still don't have the car yet. :D
Planning to wrap the car in InoZetec Dandelion also. :)

Interested to see how the interior carbon pack looks, certainly could help lift the interior.

The photos look good but I’ll post some up.
My car has arrived in U.K. now, dealer rang saying it should be with them end of this month and said we assume you want to collect first week of March on a 71 plate to which I agreed.

Looking forward to picking it up! :)

Not as much in it as I was expecting to be honest.

Thought the same, also not keen how it seems a bit less responsive, but could just be the two drivers not in sync. I will leave mine stock anyway for at least first 1000 miles, let it run in properly according to the manual, then if at 1000 miles I love the car the mods can begin, if I do not probably sell it but doubt the latter.

Dealership confirmed car is en-route and hoping it arrives next week so I can collect following Monday. Stuck just over 10k deposit in, making £200 a month for two years interest free with a final payment of around 18k. They are very flexible on payment options, all two year options are interest free and deposit ranged from 7-11.7k down roughly, you can get monthly as low as £137. Or you can do on longer terms and the APR is around 1.6%, or pay outright, so lots of options.

You can get the deposit down to £0 with a ~£600ish monthly payment. Ultimately at the end of the two years you’ll have paid the same amount as it’s 0% APR. Personally, I’ll just drip feed with higher monthlies as its gives more flexibility. Ultimately makes no odds though as far as I can see?

Just flexible, I don't like much leaving my bank each month, but at the same time instead of buying outright it made sense to make use of the 0% and keep the other 20k plus invested, I make more money that way and you can settle it and pay it off at anytime. :)

Mine is sat on a truck somewhere around Derbyshire according to the tracker, dealer should get it next week so I can collect it a week on Monday. :)

You do see some power gains as I saw it for myself 2-3bhp with the ITG panel filter. But Litchfield are claiming 7bhp on the advertising for the same filter so bit odd that's all.

Full intakes are a different story though, and I think you're right in that I very much doubt we'll see proper gains from full intakes until full remapping is possible.

I’ll not be changing the intake I’m a firm believe the stock systems are best for performance due to cold air intake nature. Only really advantage of an intake is noise but there is now blow of valves coming to market as well.

Not gonna post pictures for now, but you can see what I have posted in show us your car.

But having had the car a couple of days, I have not gone crazy in it due to running it in but some things I can highlight from my short ownership:

Suspension: Coming from an Abarth Competizione the GR Yaris Circuit Pack rides vastly superior, damping is fantastic, so even though its firm it is quite comfy. Maybe the only weakness is over uneven ground it can get a little unsettled but as a total package the suspension seems excellent and of very high quality.
Engine: Seems a lot more potent than test car, still not gone full throttle, maybe that is due to been 2 up versus 3 up, or the fact Toyota put 99 Momentum in the car for delivery and I've since put Vpower in, so 100kg less and maybe test car was running rubbish fuel, plus the air temp is maybe cooler, but I cannot remember how warm or cold it was on my test drive. What I am so impressed by is this little engine has get up and go from very low RPM, it is responsive across the entire rev range, but of course it really does seem to come on song about 3500rpm, but if your in a high gear at 2000rpm and put your foot down, the car picks up. Not redlined mine yet but I've held it at partial throttle to 6000rpm and it gets there with no delay, the test car pulled eager to 7000rpm. The engine on paper should be pretty rubbish, but it drives nothing like a 3cy 1.6 turbo if feels more akin to something bigger. I love the internal noise, so I think exhaust wise I am staying stock unless one comes out that unleashes big power gains, otherwise maybe it just makes sense to look at stuff like downpipe, cats and OPF delete if they yield decent gains, but I need more seat time because right now it seems very adequate, but maybe its just a case of the white cars are the fastest and of course the low kerb weight will be greatly helping with response from the engine.

That is it, averaging 25mpg at present, which I feel is good as I've been on country roads and town driving, no sustained cruising due to running in.

Toyota delivered the car on 38psi all round also, so do check your tyre pressures, dropped them to 32/29 this morning which according to door jam is correct, also disabled the keyless entry as well. :)

Thats how the gt86 suspension is. Over very rough surfaces it also feels loose. The springs are soft but the shocks are hard I think (which is how it should be on sports cars, many get it backwards). The Lotus is the same only pulled off flawlessly.

Yeah I am quite happy with it, could argue because I was used to the Abarth which felt like it had no springs, but I am also coming from an S2000 which has Ohlins and the Yaris has a similar feeling of quality damping, so though I am sure the Nitrons offer an improvement, I just don't see the factory suspension as a weakness and feel the need to further improve it and I am happy with factory ride height, it is nice to have some ground clearance. :)

Still cant get excited about this car but i admit not driven one. 25mpg on a light 1,6 3 cylinder thats being run in sounds pretty crap to be honest, but i guess its relative :D

Obviously white cars are the fastest

Well new engine, people with a few thousand miles on them are returning close to 50mpg on long journeys when sitting at sustained speeds.

Ive been making sure to take country roads wherever possible and constantly changing gear and using the rev range to run it best way I think I can so 25mpg is good to me considering the driving it’s been doing, same in M5 be 10mpg :D

But I get lack of excitement thing we just need a small hot hatch and this is the best to be honest I nearly did not bother with one as did not want 35k leaving my bank but as Toyota offered interest free and the fact they are easy to flip for a profit I thought let’s go for it and I’m glad I did as it’s a seriously good bit of kit, though on a hot Summers day I’ll still be taking the S2000 out it might be slow but that car just feels so right. Surprised you seem to dislike your so much.

Yeah worth a punt i guess it reminds me of the Gt86 hype with it being a Toyota and that was very flat when i experienced one (only from passenger i admit)

Dislike my what? S2000? great car but to be honest its a driveway ornament since the MOT ran out a long time ago.

Well drove GT86 and did not want one, lack of power a main reason but car was missing something else too that even with more power I’d still not want one, but Yaris is impressive.

Ah thought you’d fallen out of love with it the S2000 guess it probably needs a bit of work if it’s been sat years.

The GT86 is one of the best “out of the box” driving cars you can buy.

I’d take a purpose built RWD sports car over a turbo hatch everyday of the week.

Like you said above, it’s not all about power.

Ive got a purpose built gutless RWD sports car and having owned S2000’s and driven GT86 both on road and track Id prefer the S2000 it’s more of a thrill but only as a weekend car. If I had to take one as a daily I’d take the GT86 because of the better cabin and space. But a dry day, country roads I’d take S2000 every time it’s far more an event and the engine is way more special and feels vastly superior to the GT86 up top. But the S2000 loses a lot of its appeal for me if I have to drive it roof up.

Id concede and say the GT86 has the ability to be modded into something very capable however for track work or a very good drift car. But in stock trim I’ve not found the GT86 that exciting and I normally go for purpose built RWD cars.

I guess my failing is I’ve never driven a GT86 that has had some light modifications done to it or a supercharged one as even though it’s not about power I simply found the stock GT86 uneventful on road and track and it was not all about lack of power there was something else and I simply could not put my finger on it.

But they all need revving

This!
M5 extremely so, 2 tonne of weight the car has an almost like Vtec punch when you pass around 6500rpm.
S2000 is dead under 6000rpm then goes mental and is extremely addictive.
458 engine is a masterpiece it pulls hard from around 2500 and just never eases off unlike the M5 and S2000 there is no apparent feel of cam change it just revs extremely fast but it does have quite a bit of torque too and of course it weighs nothing and I suspect transmission losses are also minimal too.

Im an NA junky and always have been, turbo rush is great but for me nothing beats the sound and high revving nature of a special NA engine. May not be the fastest but it’s not all about performance and the Yaris has surprised me it’s not as laggy as expected and they are eager to rev out, pretty good for a small engine with a single turbo.

The gear change in my MK3 was worse than than the GT86. But everyone always says how brilliant it is, which makes me think I might have had a bit of a tired example.

Another reason to laud the Yaris too, the inclusion of a manual gearbox. Nice to see on a new car.

It is a very nice manual too, more or less on par with the S2K, only weakness in comparison is when trying to shift fast at top of rev range (not done this in my car yet) as they seem not too frilled by that, but could also be simply the nature of a turbocharged manual car, the S2000 is mega precise, rifle bolt and love being shifted fast on those 9000rpm gear changes. Having driven many Porsches who also make solid manuals, the manual in the Yaris is on par. I am past 200 miles now so been pushing brakes harder and have to say the brakes are simply amazing in this car, powerful but incredible feel and modulation.
