2012 stock pick competition

^^ That vid mentions a Georgia pipeline which would be positive for RRL selling gas hopefully?

RRL lost 6% this year, just going over entries into a 2012 competition as today is last day before 2012 trading when entries will be closed. I did awful this year, placing 203 out of 400 entries.
All but 26 people lost money with their choices, I recommend entering just to learn how easy it is to get it wrong

An 8 quid actual cash offer would be amazing. How were they 80p such a short while ago if that was ever likely possible now.

In an announcement released today, the firm announced that it has reached an agreement over options at two of its sites with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

GKP has cashflow from selling its test oil apparently. If this is regular I'd rank it over any other news

Seems like a good close for GKP, good vol. I'd expect it to test 200-170 area all the same unless solid positive news appears


Good market at the moment, I sold off large amount of KAZ to take some profits away. Not much else of great interest besides GKP, we are approaching USA earnings season including global tech like Intel, Cisco etc

I have a question about settlement dates after buying shares , I've owned a share account for some time but never done any quick buy/sell trades of shares.

If I buy shares do I have to wait for the settlement date before I can sell them?

Nope, you have to wait for the money to clear if you want to cash out but since all trades take 3 days to settle the broker will allow one share to sell to buy another

1. i work in IT and site on a trading floor. They are in at seven and out at 6pm and struggle to make cash, ITS NOT EASY.

2. I have a m8 who decided do this and was doing quite well for a while and he lost it all.. he describes it as.. "I turned away, turned back and the stock price was almost zero...."

RAnge is on a steady course downwards, its failed to catch the multi year trend up and 6.7p is next scheduled stop (Highs of 2010)
If that fails, look back at 2010 for when it was good to buy and sell as it may have completely reset and require a rebuild before any rise

RRL did hold the 2010 highs which is positive, nice rise today. No news I guess?

I sold tiny bit as it tops out on its previous trend. Bought CAD, sold VGM, sold Lloy and still thinking about TSCO but I guess I will :/

Looking for sparks to fly if CAD gets to 20, on basis of long term volume. Should bounce at least

Thats why I try to sell stuff even when I think its cheap, if its a profit take some pocket money. RRL is cheap but could repeat back to 6p or so
This also why I dont own any GKP now, only had a bit and all gone now. Was a bit too wary
It has good action today, good vol. Close the week like this and its shares are a lot stronger then I had expected.

GOLD is doing great recently even with stronger dollar, due to EURO weakness I guess. 1720 is the target for a winter top I think

Shares in Tesco (TSCO) plunged 61.55p to 323.45p after the supermarket giant reported a disappointing Christmas performance, with like-for-like sales over the six weeks to 7th January 2012 in the UK down 1.3%, excluding petrol. The company noted that its Big Price Drop initiative failed to achieve a large enough increase in customer volume to offset the lower prices. As a result, it expects trading profit growth to be at the lower end of forecasts. The group saw better international performance, with sales up 8.2% including 41% growth in the US with its Fresh & Easy brand. The news was bad enough to drag down the whole of the supermarket peer group, with J Sainsbury (SBRY) dropping 16.2p to 285.9p, WM Morrison Supermarkets (MRW) tumbling 18.1p to 285.9p and Marks & Spencer (MKS) down 6.5p to 315.6p.

Another good rise today, its back inline with the top of its overall gains over last couple years. 16p would be nice if it can keep going
I sold a bit and EMED and also Lloyds as that might be a top also

Bought Sainsburys instead of Tesco as per Questor review, 5.5% yield and the chart looks alright

Added some Beowulf mining also, anyone have that one ? Very weak stock, could go to 8p at this rate hence I add slowly

Oh dam, hopefully you are in RRL also. Im surprised Im the only one to say this but they have risen 100% in last couple weeks. I think that qualifies as pretty major especially sharp contrast to '11 speculation only?


Up 20% today again on quadruple normal volume. I'll take my sell order for my longer term holding at 16p off the book as its been gaining constructively and I already sold minor bits
Over 6 months 13p is a bit of a top but 16 and 20 are the biggies



I bought Beo today just a tiny bit because that stock is taking a beating, Arctic people maybe objecting to mining? 8p is target for downside

Also bought CAD as it nearer 23, its risen so good for now. Cairn maybe to buy Rockhop?
