Some reports saying we have agreed a £160,000/week deal for Shaw as well as whatever transfer fee has been agreed. If that is true it is utter madness. He is a good young player but we are going to end up forking over £25m plus as well as giving a 19 year old wages that are astronomical for someone so young. What do you pay him in 5/10 years time.

Yep, pretty much confirmed as fake, Goal.com are about on par with the Daily Star.

The Guardian did quote £100k/week a while back, which may be true with some sort of performance related clauses (and even then it's probably too high).

Eden Hazard apparently negotiating a contract extension - £200k / week until 2019 (link).

Also, rumours of Lukaku heading to Atletico on loan (link).

A loan to Atletico for Lukaku would not be the worst thing... I'd like to see him at Stanford Bridge, fighting for his place with Costa, but I don't think he'll really be happy playing as a #2 striker. Atletico have a way of developing young strikers into something special, so it might be a good deal.

...maybe they can take Torres as well. Please?

Lukaku will never be consistently good enough for a top side competing in multiple tournaments. He's at the right level being a good player in an Everton side for half the season. I'd like to have kept him because we have had some poor strikers in the last decade but he aint worth more than 15m.

He's 20, claiming how good he'll be now is daft, consistency is something that almost always comes with age. Ronaldo, Messi, Bale, Costa, Villa, Ibra, just about all players are inconsistent to some degree and suddenly show that game in game out ability around 23-24. Lukaku has shown both fantastic performance for a 20 year old, significantly improvement year on year already, and is 20.

Manchester United’s Louis Van Gaal eyes up move for Alexis Sánchez

Alexis Sánchez has been identified by Louis van Gaal as a summer target for Manchester United, with the manager considering a move for the £20m-rated Barcelona forward.

Although United’s interest has yet to reach any advanced stage, the manager is a firm admirer of the Chile international, who will face Van Gaal’s Holland during the World Cup in Brazil.

United would want to sell one or two of their forward players to ensure Van Gaal’s squad remains uncluttered if Sánchez were to arrive. This would mean that Nani, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Shinji Kagawa, plus possibly the strikers Javier Hernández and Danny Welbeck, could be under threat as the manager assesses his new squad and how he wants the side to play.

Van Gaal has often utilised a 4-3-3, meaning he requires only one dedicated striker, with his team placing emphasis on pacy widemen. When in charge of Bayern Munich he operated with Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben on the flanks in this fashion.

Seems like there was some truth to those reports, Jamie Jackson is one of the more reliable Man Utd journalists (though he's not infallible).

£20m seems too cheap though, unless Barca don't really rate him.

Another forward? Really?

I actually think Hernandez is decent, Rooney would be more than happy to fill in up front, and Welback, despite his faults, isn't a lost cause by any means. And that's before counting RvP.

Unless there's some plot to go with two strikers. :p

Come back in 4 years, see who was right....

Not quite transfer news and I doubt anyone here actually gives a poop but;

Sheffield Wednesday: Hafiz Mammadov completes takeover.

.

BBC Link.

Hopefully, this means we actually have some money and the club can push on a little.

I will be, I'm not saying he WILL be more consistent just that the number of 20year olds who are consistent number in the half dozen in the past decade is miniscule.

I can basically think of Fabregas off the top of my head who showed a hugely impressive level of consistency at 20 or below, and that is because he'd already played 3 full seasons in the prem league. Lukaku has played about 2 seasons worth, more sporadically and spaced over 3 years with about 70 games total.

Raw talent is there, consistency usually comes after at least 3 years playing first team in a top league. Looking at Bale, no consistent games to 20 really, then played the 40+ games a season for 3 seasons in a row showing a massive improvement in consistency in that last season, then got a big move and was even better.

You're saying he WON'T be consistent enough, I'm saying, players don't get to a relatively representative state till they've had 3-4 solid seasons of game time. He may or may not be, I'm saying I'll judge him on the point at which most players either improve significantly or you give up on. Lukaku is miles from that point, while you're stating categorically he won't get better, while ignoring the vast amount of information that suggests 3-4 full seasons + usually being around 23-24 is when most players make that big last step.

I think it helps players to both be at better teams and play for one team in that period, so really he could do with picking a team he can get starts for the next 2 or 3 more years for and see where he's at. If he goes back to Chelsea, he'll struggle to get enough games(unless Costa gets a season ending type injury) and he'll not progress as you'd expect.

Still don't get these cavani rumours but heres a new one

Manchester United are set to offer PSG €70m (£56m) for Edinson Cavani but are also willing to include Wayne Rooney as part of any deal to bring the forward to Old Trafford.

Yeah I think we can file that firmly under bull****.

As for the Sanchez nonsense, if it meant I'd never have to watch Valencia and Welbeck again I would smash my own teeth out with a toffee hammer to make it happen.

I actually do think there's some substance to these rumours, if we could get some sort of straight swap for Rooney then I wouldn't mind. I think Rooney is a very important player for us but his wage and the length of his contract is a bit of a concern.

I'm not really sure how good Cavani is though...
