While Fabregas could do this job (and we may have tried to sign him, but it doesn't sound like it), I think Van Gaal will want someone who can play more of a deeper/box-to-box type role, like Schweinsteiger and Strootman.
He'd have to play deeper as we've got Mata, Rooney and Kagawa who can all play in the number 10 position. It'd be easier to discuss this if we knew exactly how Van Gaal wants to line the team up, too.
I can't see us missing out on all of our targets, I think we'll get in at least 3 or 4 exciting players. Patience will be required, likely until the World Cup is over.

That was last year, maybe if Moyes was still in charge we'd have got him. I'd rather have no Fabregas+LvG than Fabregas+Moyes.
Whenever we were linked to Fabregas over the last few months, the club have briefed that we aren't in for him, and there have been no leaks saying otherwise, so I'm inclined to believe it's true.
As for Woodward, when LvG is in Manchester and breathing down his neck, he'll soon sort transfers out.

What happened to Fab saying he would only go back to Arsenal? I don't understand this move. He isn't the type of player Jose has in his team.
That or playing with Oscar,Hazard,William,Costa,Matic and co interests him more then Ozil and Giroud...
Oh and Mourinho and recent European success.
Hard to see where Fabregas will slot in. I think a mid 3 with Matic + Fabregas + 1 of Ramires, Mikel, Van Ginkel, Oscar will be how we line up.

Thats a little harsh
Its been widely stated (whether its accurate or not is another matter) that Utd board have back pedaled from a lot of Moyes targets that were all but signed before he was sacked (Shaw, Cavalho, Kroos) - I would certainly take those three with Moyes rather than no-one with LvG at this point (even if Shaw is still very possible - even if the Alba story is concerning).
If we do end up with any of those its thanks to Moyes' hard work before he left

You're now going to get an indepth review of Fabregas' time at Barca including stats that make him look like an absolute beast. Then there will be a some Wenger bashing for not signing him.
