I see this trotted out time and time again, tell me this. If it was so easy to be challenging why has no one outside the 4 teams in the CL done it?

I think it's a factor but also obviously not the only one. The team had made serious improvements that I think would have put them in the top 3 anyway, but not having to play CL football has allowed them to push on further than they perhaps would have done.

Also obviously Liverpool seriously under achieved last year.

Factors also include having a very tactically astute manager and some of the fastest players in the league.

Because Spurs bought too many players at once and couldnt decide on their best starting 11 for 6 months (or even longer)

Everton never have enough money to spend on buying their own players so rely on a few loans that rarely stay more than a season (if they are any good). Brilliant team for what they spend, but whether they can even get top four is thanks to Arsenal failing as much as anything (along with Spurs ****** up)

And before this season no one below the top 6 have anywhere near the finances to compete (as per the usual massive points difference that is usually in place by this time of year) - apart from Liverpool that is

Just face it, one game a week is a massive benefit for a lot of the season (minus the FAC /LC) - you have played 10 fixtures less than Utd over the season (and not even including the Community Shield), I think City certainly have played (to date) one or two more than Utd. Thats quite considerable difference over a season.

Personally the financial fair play thing also prevents a smaller club from spending on the chance of success as they can't really speculate to accumulate.

You really think someone on 35k would turn down the option to earn 250k?

I can understand that players do consider other things, such as the standard of football available, the living conditions of the country, etc - but even though Man U are a long way away from where they once were, if the numbers really are true, I think most players in that situation would be tempted.

Footballers are still people. Not many people would turn down the chance to earn literally millions of pounds more than they are currently on, even if they are getting paid well already.

If living conditions come into it a move to Manchester is unlikely :D

The thing with playing at Dortmund is knowing that Bayern are just too good right now and a player like Reus needs to be playing in a more competitive league. I don't think he can say no to earning that sort of money. You need to make all you can as a footballer as its a very short career.

Just getting my hopes up!

Spurs interested in Welbeck supposedly, these guys just pick a random player and random club and post a "story", it's all nonsense. Smalling + injury trouble, sounds right up Arsenal's alley though.

Sounds like Fabregas could be leaving Barcelona, the fans really don't seem to like him.

We should definitely get back in there.

Personally think Utd cant afford to waste any more time, get in players absolutely required and then get in 1 or 2 nice to have

Welbeck unhappy you say? Is everything good coming true today? :D

Cleverley, Young and Valencia unhappy by any chance? :p

Exactly!!

Go tap up Podolski with the lure of more first team football, sign Bony or Lukaku, bring in Lallana, sell Rooney for big cash, sell RvP for whatever you can get and live without playing with wingers. Sell the dross you don't want to use (Valencia, Carrick, Cleverly, etc). Keep Kid N Play, because he can run around a lot and although doesn't score a lot of goals is a great outlet when you're under the kosh.

Sign Gareth Barry or Esteban Cambiasso on a free transfer, sign Joleon Lescott on a free tranfer (or John Terry ;)), sign Steve Sidwell on a free transfer. All three would improve the first team now.

Tom Ince is cheap and young. If you're bringing in older, more experienced players then look at this kind of player at the same time.
