It's arguable that you were having yet another dig at United :)

How would you read it as a dig?

Barry, Cambiasso, Sidwell, Lescott, Terry, Ince. Which of those players wouldn't improve your first team squad today?

I was also serious about House Party. I don't rate him, he's not a target man, and he's not going to score enough goals, but he is a good enough outlet for when you need him. He can hang on to the ball and will run the channels all day long.

Sidwell and Barry wouldn't. Arguably terry and lescott are both dubious.

You don't think Sidwell is better than Cleverly or Fletcher? You don't think Barry is better than Carrick or Fellaini?

Terry was a bit of as joke, as I don't think he'd move there, but Lescott would bring experience and ability, with Vidic gone and Evans and Smalling still developing, and Rio a crock, he'd be a stop-gap for a time at least.

The point is, you don't need to go out and spend hundreds of millions to improve. With the Mata money alone you could have improved the squad massively.

Sidwell is ****, that's why he's at Fulham and previously Villa, Barry had a good first half of the season but isn't good enough to get in Cities squad. Now onto Lescott who again isn't good enough to get in their squad even though they have Demichelis.

Now enough indulgence of your winding up :)

I am serious. I'm not on the wind up. Lescott is better than anything you've got, come the end of the season, except Evans. IMO of course.

Unfortunately, you are unable to turn down players just because they can't get in the City team. You are too far away from them in terms of player quality to do that.

Sidwell might not get the fans off their seats too often, but he's still better than the worst players in your squad and is therefore an improvement. The same is true of all the other players I named, and those were just the first that came to mind.

I'm not turning them down because they can't get into the City team, I'm turning them down because they're ****.

Here's a thought, lets buy mid table players or one's that don't even make the bench for their teams! That'll send out the right message to the players we're trying to attract.

"Hey expensive foreign signing, do you want to come and play with Sidwell, he used to play for Villa"

"Or do you want to come and play with Carrick who has played in 3 CL finals, you will eventually replace him"

Luckily neither me or you make these kind of decisions :)

If you only ever desire to replace dross with World Class, you'll only ever make one or two signings a year. Every year 1 or 2 (or more?) players that have been good enough in the past go past their peak and need replacing, and you already have too many players that need replacing. Add to that those that are leaving...

If you had a team of world class players right now your approach might work. As it is, you have to replace some squad members.

I realise that, hence my post in the other thread about us not spending whatever war chest we have on 2 or 3 worldies. We need to strengthen the squad first and foremost but not with a list of players plucked from Gilly's head :)

Meh, they were only the first names I thought of (and would definitely improve the squad).

Cambiasso would be an interesting one though. He won't have the legs for true box-to-box any more (and never really was) but might work well with a good DMC now that he plays a bit higher up the pitch.

They probably would improve the squad on what we have currently but not by much.

Improving the squad by buying mediocre PL players is not the right direction for the club to be going in, unless you've missed the news, Moyes has been sacked :)
