I thought he would go with the 5-3-2 3-4-3 setup as it is the only one that makes sense now. He said himself two strikers and a number ten so that would be perfect. I reckon if a game is tied up or some rough and tumble comes Fellaini will go on for Mata and be a box-to-box mid in the center of the formation while the rest sit around him with probably 4 behind him and then a bank of 3 defenders. He could be dangerous unless a DM tracks him man for man and the two strikers drift with the opposite two centerbacks he can drive right in between them unmarked.

I really like it there are no goals down near the corner flag and if a defender pushes up you can crowd out people centrally with 4 people in a diamond. As long as the results come in and the posession flows for us i reckon he will stick with it until an injury to Rooney or RVP lets him go back to 4-3-3. Something like this versus stoke.

Herrera/Carrick/Fletcher
--------Fellaini--------
---RVP------Rooney

Have to admit it's pretty disheartening being a Saints fan at the moment, almost on par with the Lowe days; as soon as cortese left things went downhill fast.
Losing Lambert, Lallana, Shaw, Chambers, Lovren, Morgan and possibly Jay means we will lose 7 first team players. The board have an awful lot to answer for especially seeing as they said we would keep the majority of the squad together.
It's also apparent that Koeman's been brought in because of his history of utilising the youth squad which means we won't be allocating our incoming profit from player sales into transfer funds.
Can't see how things are going to improve after a squad gets decimated as badly as this.

I watched Cavani for a number of years in Serie A, when he is the main man in the team he is a world class striker.

When he is just put in the team for the sake of it and having to play out of position to accommodate other players he's not even half the player he is.

At Napoli he was unplayable at times and last season watching him with P$G he was only a shadow of his former self, even when Ibra was injured and he was playing as the main striker he lacked the confidence to play well.

Would be a complete waste if Man United bought him as he wont get that kind of form he did at Napoli because he will be rotating with Rooney/RvP and will probably just sulk.

Luca, is Cuadrado any good? We keep being linked with him a lot. I thought he was very good in the World Cup and his Fiorentina highlight reel looks good too...

Looks like the Chambers rumours are true - that must mean either Monreal or sicknote is on their way out.

If we do pick up the strong holding midfielder we need I can't imagine this window having gone any better for us.

I can't even begin to imagine how it feels. If you had managed to hold onto that squad you could have really looked to build and move forward - with a decent manager and a couple of decent signings Europe wasn't out of your reach... now you've been completely decimated.

Did Pottechino know this was going to happen? Was that what spurred his move to Tottenham? Or do you think its his leaving that has made this happen. Either way its got to be truly gutting for you, one football fan to another I feel for you.

hope its ok to post in here as my team is not one of the big 5 everyone seems to be talking about but i hope we cause a few upsets to warrent a few raised eyebrows.

leicester city

signed ulloa from brighton for 8m to me this seems a lot of money for an unproven prem player but nigel seems to find these little gems to work with so hoping for the same

us and qpr are in for troy deeney from watford price so far is around 8 million again but still battling it out and i think maybe we should forget about it.

on the loan front it looks like nigel has enquired about holtby from spurs which would be a cracking loan for us .

and it would not be right if we didnt go for some man utd players to go with the 6 or 7 we already have at the club lol .

seems we are interested in nick powell and cleverley but i very much doubt clev would come but powell is a possibilty as is zaha .

really hoping we can cause a few upsets this season certain players who many wont have heard of that nigel picked up from france are exceptionally skillful and tricky those 2 are mahrez and knockeart and with the pace of vardy and power of ulloa with allbrighton whipping balls in i feel we have a decent attack.

defence wise i feel kasper schmicheal is prob one of the top keepers in the country at the minute and with wes morgan and polish international waslowski at cb these 2 are like ents from lotr lol

and with drinkwater and james in cm they have the energy and skill to break up play and distribute .

anyways been nice to crash your big boy talk and good luck all

Feel the same but when you read how much Shaw wages are we don't really stand a chance.

Would be nice to see a few new faces in and soon though, but leaving it this late with so many sales mean clubs will (quite rightly) try and take us to the cleaners.

£100k basic :p. I remember Frank saying that wouldn't happen/it'd be more like £75k max in terms of basic ;).

Is that confirmed or is that just what the chief **** stirrer of the PL is suggesting because I have never known Mourinho to talk rubbish to try and unsettle an opposition team.

100K was rumored when he was signed, some media outlets are reporting its more like 120K - 130k a week basic. Nothing like panicking and being bent over re wages, can you image how much established performers are going to be wanting if an unproven 19 year old is on that sort of money. Mind blowing.

But experienced players are ALWAYS on more a week than new/young players, fact.... Bale on 300k a week vs Alonso, Benzema, Ramos, Casillas, Di Maria, Modric, Khedira all on nothing like those wages.

He isnt unproven in the Epl ( which is still where vast majority of games are played). He also more than likely has 10 years plus left of his top level career.

Given the new TV deal tripled club income, of course top agents are insisting on doubling ( or more) what the same player would have got 2 or 3 seasons ago. Its how it works

All the transfer rumours tirm out to be true so of course all the ones about wages are also 100% factual...........oh wait

What you are forgetting is that we have about 6 proven proformers in the team and they will all already be on over 100k a week!

Heck, even the guys that are **** will be on something like that or more.

Does make you question the state of the finances at Southampton

Shaw
Llallana (sp)
Lovren
Chambers
