The problem with Strootman is he's got one of those dodgy injuries that can keep cropping up. There's no way we'd drop £40m on him (or anything close to that) before he's played a string of games for Roma. Might be possible in January, depending on his recovery.

I think if he was fully fit now with no concerns, we'd already have him.

I wonder if this transfer window is insane or I'm just out of touch with modern football - but people talking about £50m for a player I've never even heard of.

See were linked with lavezzi again tbh I wouldn't mind him but he isn't the out and out striker we need :/ really also wish we would sign a good left back we haven't had a good one since aurelio / risse

Fairly safe to say we'll be signing Manquillo and one of Moreno or Bertrand, hopefully not Bertrand.

Personally on top of that I think we need another forward, a striker and another CB, but given Coates form we might make do with him now.

You've never heard of Strootman?

Unfortunately prices are getting out of hand now, but that applies commercially too, we do okay out of it.

He was flying at Roma, pity such a promising player got a very nasty injury. Would be a very good fit for United but I don't think he would come cheap tbh.

Like u said as well would be a risk buying him with that injury history, I'm sure he will get over it and hope to see him back at his best.

Yeah the Bertrand rumour does not fill me with confidence at all though if any one can maybe improve him it's Rodgers, I haven't seen manquilo play ever so I can't comment on him at all

I will be gutted if we sign schneiderlin and rodriguez.

One of the big selling points of Pochettinno was his ability to work with players and make them better.

He still hasn't even seen Dembele, Chadli and Paulinho or Sandro and he wants to sign another central midfielder.

Capoue, Carroll, Mason, Sandro, Paulinho, Dembele, Holtby and Bentaleb. Why do we need Schneiderlin? Paulinho in particular needs some coaching; he has played so much football over the last 2 seasons he could do with a rest and then encouragement.

Townsend has never been coached by a top level coach; I would like to see him after some time under our new coach. We have Lennon, Lamela, Holtby, Eriksen, Kane and Chadli on the same position as Rodriguez and none of them are any worse than he was when Pochettino came into Southampton.

The idea of Pochettino coming in and signing two players in crowded positions before he has even seen his full squad is nuts.
Pochettino doesn't need to have seen all of those players you have mentioned, Schneiderlin is better than all of your midfielders imo.
Dembele, Paulinho and Sandro are decent but Schneiderlin is a very good player.

Again, Rodriguez although it may just turn out he had a good first season I think is better than Kane, Lennon, Holtby and probably Chadli.

Pochettino will be best off bringing in Schneiderlin and Rodriguez now and selling the others.

Until Roma he was unproven outside of the Dutch league. I remember looking at him and Fellaini on FM 13 and Fellaini had better all-round stats for the DM position and so like Moyes i bought him.

After Roma and the Dutch hyping him up for the World Cup at the key no 6 suddenly his value seems to have doubled! I still think Koke,Vidal,Pogba are better choices than Strootman especially considering Roma's stance and his knee injury. Now if the "worlds richest club" cannot pull a former youth player, A 27 year old playing in Italy or a young Spanish player who plays with the mighty Athletico they might as well pack thier bags and go home.

It is depressing, And i think Koke is worth breaking our transfer record for considering we could field a spanish midfield. :o

Van Gaal speaking about transfers, of course, no specific names mentioned...

Talking about his players, van Gaal said: “I don’t buy players for the sake of it. I buy players to improve my selection.

“First, I must see what I need in all the positions from the system we shall play and, at this moment, I don’t know for sure.”

''If we switch to 4-3-3 I will need more specialists on the wings & in attack so I'll need to buy another kind of player."

Sounds like he isn't overly sure of the system, let alone the squad at the moment. I think we'll be waiting until the tour is over.

At least he's noticed our wingers are useless though. :p

Who is going to be a part timer on the wings and have the desired quality? Nani MK II? God sake man buy someone like Shaqiri and Bayern will sigh with relief no one is taking a player they want to keep. He is a damm good winger, Sell the rest of them they are junk. Ok 4-3-3 sorted no wait you need a DM and a CB.

Smoke and mirrors he requires 3 top class players minimum Robbo. Although i would strongly argue that it could be two and Adnan Janujaz.

Probably the first public hint that he knows we will need to dip our toe a few more times.

Last week the line was no business, I will assess what I have.

This week Its I know what I can do with what I have got but if I want to play another way, then I need different players.

I don't expect Utd to play a variant of 3-5-2 all season.

Inter game I would expect he will try 4-3-3. Lets hope it fails miserably and he sells Young to Colorado Rapids

vert's tantrum's have got him a new contract and naughton looks to be off to swansea. double yay.

expect spurs to have one last stab at the pillage of southampton.

I agree. The only winger we're in for at the moment is Di Maria (perhaps Cuadrado) and we've got to pay €80m odd for him and convince him to join us rather than PSG. Won't be straight forward...

Adnan is by far our most dangerous winger so I could see him being used out there, but he's still young.

Really no idea what's going to happen, if we're playing 4-3-3 then we definitely need a class midfielder like Vidal even more so than before. But, playing 4-3-3 means we can't use RvP/Rooney and Mata in the same formation, and so on...

Oh hell, I give up.

Neither Rodriguez or Schneiderlin were inherently amazing before Pochettino started coaching them and helping them improve. They both look good as a result of playing in a well set out team. They didn't carry Southampton nor did they do anything spectacular.

He should be doing the same thing with the players Spurs already have rather than just buying in some good mid table players at top end prices. I maintain that Schneiderlin and Rodriguez were just as average as the Spurs squad until Pochettino coached them better and I think he could do the same with the players Spurs already have.

The spurs squad all look pants because they played in a disfunctional team for the best part of 2 seasons under 3 different managers; they are hugely underperforming in contrast to Southampton overachieving.

Manchester United hold talks with Napoli over Marouane Fellaini exit

Marouane Fellaini’s nightmare time at Manchester United could be about to end as the club are in negotiations with Napoli regarding the midfielder, whose £27.5m fee last summer made him the fourth most expensive player in the club’s history.

Fellaini is thought to be minded to make the move to Italy, although he is still weighing up the decision. Whether it would be a permanent transfer or loan deal is also in the balance.

United would prefer to sell the player and are bracing themselves to take a sizeable loss on him, with any fee in the region of £15m understood to be considered good business. Napoli, though, want to take Fellaini on a temporary basis as the Italian club have straitened finances and are trying to remove players from their books.

With Fellaini on about £100,000 a week, his terms may also be an issue if it were to be a permanent transfer. Despite the Belgian’s disappointing form since joining United – he failed to score a goal for the club and was unlucky with injuries – Rafael Benítez, the Napoli head coach, believes the player’s physicality could be utilised in Serie A.

Thank you Rafa!

Edit: damn you dmcg!
