Yup, nothing at all to do with LvG being involved in the world cup, only being with the team for what, under two weeks. All big companies worth billions rush multmillion pound decisions for the sake of appeasing fans. Also companies worth billions, who are floated on stock exchanges no less, lie about their finances, despite it being a crime under england and US law. So the millions we know they have in cash in hand, and the massive sponsorships and yearly finances which all show Utd can spend 200mil if they want.... all made up...... because they didn't rush to spend 100+ million in LvG's first two weeks in charge.

We can spend £200m if we want, but we might not want to. :p

In a couple of weeks we could have an entirely different set of transfer targets, the British press haven't got a clue at the moment (as they've all more or less admitted).

I think its fair to say that if we don't sign anyone of note before the start of the season we will be fairly sure that Woodwards claims of having the money to buy anyone we want is complete BS.

It's not fair to say at all, really.

Considering how much Van Gaal has said he's wanting to asses the squad first, and we know that he isn't generally one to hold his tongue or roll over (as we've already seen by his moaning about tour), it's fair to say that if we don't make those signings then it's probably not through a lack of funds.

Shaw & Herrera were club signings, put into motion way before Van Gaal arrived. He approved the deals, but they weren't signings that he has requested after looking at the squad (which he's repeatedly said he wants to do). We aren't likely to see any of that kind of movement until after the tour at least, where I suspect we'll sell a few too.

I think Robbo might actually going on a killing spree if this happens

If he accepted the job based on having limitations on his spending then he would have course not be complaining about it. We have spent what is an alright amount for a transfer window if we were in the position Man City or Chelsea are but we are not. We could spend 200m and still have positions that could be improved upon.

As Robbo has said, having money to spend in the bank and having it available to spend as a manager are completely different things.

Of course he wants to assess the squad but are you seriously telling me that he will be looking at many of our players and thinking that they are good enough for a title challenge. You don't look at a player for a few weeks that looks crap and then a few weeks later think he looks like a brilliant player.

Young, Valencia, Cleverley, Hernandez, Fletcher and co are never going to be first team standard and if you wait till the final weeks before the season your options in the transfer window dwindle.

Top players will either be sold already, the club won't want to sell without having time to replace them or they will have you over a barrel if they think you are desperate. There is a little under 3 weeks before the start of the season. We need to start doing the rest of our transfer business.

De Vrij has just officially joined Lazio, he was one of our supposed targets according to the British press. Now they're all just saying it's Hummels, Blind or Vermaelen, perhaps Di Maria.

I do genuinely think that, for the most part, we're keeping the press totally in the dark. Which Woodward would want after the Fabregas saga and LvG hates all press, so he'd back that up.

Hopefully but I am starting to get worried! When he announces Vidal, Hummels, Di Maria and Cuadrado in the same day I will feel better.

United dont have any good midfielders lets be honest here. They need at least 3 CM's in my opinion to get back on track.

They could get away with carrying Carrick for another season if they put a box to box midfielder beside him i suppose.

Would be a disaster if LvG doesn't sign any CM's this season.

Herrera?

I dont disagree with this, but Valencia ( as a wing back) and Fletcher are useful squad members.

Chicharito would be included in this, but think its time he finds 1st XI football.

Young and Cleverley do need to be sold however.

Not sure why you are ignoring the last couple of weeks of the window.

It may not be ideal, but its still valid thinking / negotiating / buying time and given how short the time scales have been LvG deserves every second.

The squad itself is so barebones that even two or three decent rather than absolute top tier signings would be a vast impeovement

I never get the attitude of Valencia as a wing back or a full back. It's like people have assumed he is so **** at going forwards that he must be good further back....he's not.

I did state as a squad player ( given that there are more important roles to fill in the remains of the window)

If we get two cm's, two centre halfs, at least one full back, a winger and if Chicharito goes possibly another striker then fair enough ( in that order)

Obviosely thats 1st XI and squad members

( depending if you, like me, are fed up with Rafael practically permanently being injured / recovering from injury)

That may not be strictly true, given the club's financial position could be propping up other Glazer businesses (so the cash in the bank/value of the asset in general is needed and money can't be splashed as much as if Manyoo was completely independent of any other assets).

Given hiw important CL is these days, I think taking Woodward's speech the other day stating " there is no fixed budget" has to be taken at face value

Sorry forgot about him, it's asking quite a lot though for such an inexperienced player to be the main man in midfield though. He will need support it will be a tough first year for him imo.

I hope he is one of the players who isnt given cup games early in the season, and will probably be given Christmas / New year off to make first season easier.

It will be a tough seasom for him no doubt, but there are squad players who should be able to cope with the qpr etc games at the very least

Marotta was just asked at an event about Vidal and said no player has asked to leave and they have "clear ideas" about Vidal. He's repeating what he said before, so nothing more on that front until we find out what happens at this supposed meeting between the club and his agent. Assuming we don't get Vidal (the most likely scenario at this stage), and going off what the British press think:

I don't think Hummels is a realistic target, but he'd be a fantastic player to get.

Daley Blind is a realistic target and can cover two positions, LB and CM/DM, but is Blind+Herrera good enough? Probably not against the stronger teams.

We've got a passing interest in Di Maria, should the PSG move fall through (which it won't).

Lastly, I'm not sure Vermaelen is the answer to our problems, but at the right price he's a decent defender. I don't think Arsenal will be keen to sell him to us, and Barcelona are very interested so I'd rather he went there.

I'd like Schweinsteiger next to Herrera, if no Vidal. Pep doesn't seem to rate him and he likes Van Gaal. De Jong (who we haven't really been linked to) would be an improvement perhaps but can he actually defend? He's always quite brutal whenever I watch him play. A hatchet man.

I still think we might end up with a load of new targets after the tour, but it would have been nice to see us using our money and aggressively pursuing top players. I mean, we might be doing that but if we are, we're doing a good job of keeping it quiet from the Manchester side of things.

Well, we've now sold Stockdale to Brighton. Odd one as he's first choice and I can't see Stekelenburg staying.

Our longest serving player is now Alex Kacankilic at 22 years old.

He is quality and is linking up well with Mata. They just need that third person beside them it is not a big season 38 games for us to salvage last season and get back into Europe.

LVG is being a complete tool though, A blind Albanian goat herder could see we need Vidal and Hummels/Vermalaen as priority. We need a left footer for the left of the 3 (Vermalaen) and a central defender (Hummels) and Jones/Smalling share the right side.
