That depends on what they mean really.

Players get loyalty bonuses if they don't request a transfer so are they just trying to save a bit of money on top of the huge transfer fee they would get?

They can then say that they didn't want him to go when fans whinge. At the end of the day if we offer huge money and a good salary to him there is no reason to think both club and player won't be happy to make a deal.

I gave up at:

He never said this.

If there's any truth to the Vidal stuff, it seems to me we're using Vidal's agent as the 3rd party negotiator (we did similar for Mata). Until he's presented 'our offer' to Juventus, we can't know anything else. What Marotta and Allegri say means very little.

all of this 'he must ask to leave' stuff, any manager would say it, especially if you've only been manager for a few days/weeks, to appease the fans.

if it's true about the agent being the go-between on this, i have a feeling he'd be encouraging the move as he'd make a metric ****ton of cash out of it.

i'll remain hopeful that we sign him, but this seems like it probably won't happen. last time we signed an already established mega star was veron :p

My view is that if we have made an offer of €60m and are offering him a massive pay increase and no doubt lucrative commercial deals on top of that, why wouldn't both he and Juventus accept it? I think they would, without doubt.

I just wonder whether we're actually interested at all. All logical signs say we should be, unless we're secretly broke... :p

you also have to factor in no CL football for us next season, that could be a big factor for a player like vidal.

but then plenty of teams have signed decent players to get back into the top 4 and thus europe so i don't see why we can't, aside from (as you say) we're skint :D

Varela is meant to be promising but still very young, so may not be seen even in the squad this year (but is thought of highly)

He's 21, he's hardly that young. I doubt we'll see him in a United shirt much if at all if he's not being considered at this point.

Also I still think Trusty is actually David Moyes. Or maybe his mum.

Yeah that's what I reckon - even if Utd do have an offer on the table and Juventus are willing to sell then he'd be daft to rush to accept, may as well have his agent shop him around to the other clubs and see if anyone in the CL wants to match t&cs plus offer CL football on top.

21 isn't young anymore. Help me god!

What about Wenger's mum? I defend him too. Watch me defend LVG as well when everything doesn't go to plan this season. ;) But hey...manager's can sort it all out within a month or something according to some of you fans. I think it has something to do with our disposable world we live in, we want instant gratification.

No.... we just want someone who is up to the job. Perhaps you think that Liverpool should still have Hodgson or even the mighty Dalglish at the helm. Moyes was a complete disaster in nearly every aspect of management for United.

Reduced our value massively - tick
Not a big name draw for players - tick
Worst league position for god knows how long - tick
No europe next season - tick
Playing dire football - tick
No plan B - tick
Wrong tactics most of the time - tick
Lost the respect of the players - tick
Regressed a lot of players ability wise - tick
Spent 27m on a player not worth half that - tick

In fact, I'm not sure quite how his time could have have been much worse really.

Mark Ogden was just on TalkSport discussing Vidal:

“The word from Manchester United is contradictory, and it has been for a few days,” he told Hawksbee and Jacobs . “The message we have been getting is not to take any notice of the reports because it’s not happening.

“The noises coming out of Chile and Italy are so strong though that something may be going on behind the scenes.

“We’ve been told there is no direct contact with Juventus. Obviously that doesn’t mean there can’t be contact with associated parties. It seems to be a story that won’t go away.”

James Ducker has said something similar before, so they aren't totally confident the club are being entirely honest.

There does seem to be an awful lot behind it, coming from abroad at least.

What if you finish 10th this season?

United know how happy everyone was with last years transfer dealings and much of that was because we appeared to go for a lot of top players and then not sign them. We have signed Herrera and Shaw without a peep from the club so I would think that any more signings will be the same.

We won't but as long as we are playing good football and can see a positive attacking style of play then I won't mind. Thats never going to happen though because if we can play good football that is attacking we would never end up in 10th place.

We ended in 7th because of the crap football we played and Moyes's inability to motivate his team and his tactical ineptitude. Everton have played much better football since he left.

Shaw yes, but not Herrera. It came out of the blue and from Spain (despite the fact we were in for him in a previous window).

The press here were reporting that Utd would go back in for him ever since the deal fell through the previous summer.

And even when Ballague etc reported the deal was close , it wasn't as if it was done and dusted then. There was still another week or so of negotiating, bids being rejected and so on before it was completed.
