LvG has confirmed again he wants a new defender (at least): http://www1.skysports.com/football/...oss-louis-van-gaal-looking-to-sign-a-defender

The press all think it's Hummels, primarily, then Vermaelen. I don't think Arsenal will sell us Vermaelen anyway, given he's the club captain and we won't offer much.

There's a 1% chance Dortmund will sell Hummels, and it'd take a huge offer of £40m~ for a defender. The journalists seem to think he's up for grabs for around £20m which is utterly ridiculous.

Aside from that, who else is there? RM probably wouldn't sell Varane, Benatia would cost €40m~ (as Man City were quoted for him and backed out).

I guess it doesn't have to be a 'star' name, just someone good who can potentially get better, so maybe someone who isn't that well known. LvG seems impressed with Blackett and Michael Keane so I think one of them will be in the first team squad properly this season.

Seriously... stop saying "Manyoo". What are you, an 8 year old girl???

He has been doing it for years and has been asked not to by a large number of people but he seems to do it just to prove that he doesn't listen to anyone. You know, like that person who won't stop doing something when asked because that would be admitting they were being a prat on purpose.

Shaw & Herrera is hardly enough signings to challenge for the title, even with a CB it'll be difficult. I think another CM is also needed especially if Fellaini goes, hopefully not another flop :p

Other then that maybe another RM but I think LVG will like Valencia because he's capable of defending like Kuyt was in the WC. Hopefully won't put him as a RB/RWB though!

As we've seen from friendlies it's going to be a very positive side with a lot of attacking and pace.

Top 4 finish at least

Oh come off it, it's not like we're shy of selling our club captains :D

Everton doing some seriously good business so far, Lukaku is a fantastic signing.

I've said in previous posts, if anything less than 25mil he's more than worth it(he's potentially worth a lot more but Everton would have a lower price ceiling to risk on a single player than other teams).

There is every chance that in 3-4 years you could get 50+ mil for him, and have him incredibly good for you in the meantime.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a relatively cheap deal with a relatively cheap buyback clause. Again he could be great for Chelsea but going for trebles every year you need the consistency of a slightly older and better player. But you don't want to throw away Lukaku because he could potentially be the best striker around for a decade from say 24-34. But you don't want to lose him, selling him to someone who can't quite afford him, slightly cheap with some buy back clauses is a great idea for them. Means he gets first team experience and if he gets better for two years, he'll be good enough to be first team for sure and they could get him back pretty cheap.

Very optimistic I think, I would say top four at best. If they add to their team from now, then 3rd at best but I think it's a big gap to the squads city and chelski have.

We don't have CL or Europa league and we could have a very strong 1st XI if we buy another quality CB, DM and winger. Currently, I think we would struggle to get top 4. If it was at anyones expense it is likely to be Liverpools with the current state of all the squads.

Chelsea will win the league fairly easily if they perform at anything like their potential and don't get too many injuries. City are just a good team and will be there or there abouts but I don't think they are going to light up the PL. Arsenal should be much better this season with Sanchez. Liverpool have replaced a world class striker with depth but not much that will improve their first team and they haven't got a striker that is going to make a big difference to their aspirations yet.

I'll be sad to see Lukaku go... His attitude hasn't always been the best, but I'd prefer to see him stay and fight for at least one season under Mourinho. He seems to want to be the clear #1 striker though, and there's little chance of that at Chelsea unless he's willing to earn it on the pitch. I hope the fee is at least £30m - anything less would be criminal considering his potential.

At least we have Drogba back, and some other good signings. Looking forward to some Cesc, Drogs and rock 'n roll this season. Should be a fun time playing Arsenal :p

Yep - this has crossed my mind also. £20m with a ~£30m buyback clause wouldn't be terrible business for Chelsea. Perhaps better than a straight £30m sale.

I've read the Lukaku deal is going to be payments of £5m a year which means that Martinez can even afford more players.

It also means Chelsea are absolutely bonkers. Selling a young proven striker and relying on Torres, the ghost of Drogba, and someone new to the the PL who's had one good season abroad. Mental.

That would be truly crazy...

How much have they spent out of the £28m they got last season (from selling that giraffe to United)?

A few Everton fans on here said it was only ~£15m basic (and given how poorly the team performed, and his possible exit - there arent likely to be any add-ons paid lol)

Not sure how true that is however

They have signed barry on a transfer (rather than loan as per last season)

Granted they should still have plenty of tv money if nothing else

Miranda is possibly back on for 30m euros / £24m~ althogh Chelsea are supposedly now interested too

other than that its pretty slim pickings

Arsenal's new kid has been given Vermaelan's squad number .......

In theory we should still have lots of it. We spent 16m on McCarthy and about 2m on McGeady. It depends how much of the new tv deal Martinez is allowed to get his hands on.

I read that rumour as well. There is absolutely zero chance of Chelsea chasing Miranda. It's utter codswallop.

Chelsea already need to offload a foreign player in order to meet the squad quota (Mourinho has said as much outright). They are not going to bring in another one to make things worse. Moreover, Chelsea have no need for cover at CB right now (Terry + Cahill are starters, with Zouma and Ivanovic as cover, and Kalas out on loan to develop for the future). And there's no way they will pay that kind of money for a 30 year old to use as cover.

This is one of the most stupid rumours I've read this window. If Miranda is sold, it won't be Chelsea doing the buying.
